In another thread, mom was asking about painting a book cover. I suggested heavy body acrylics because that's what I use for all of my book painting and fabric canvas. I have some heavy body's by Golden and Liquitex but they can be expensive. Another brand I love is Amsterdam. They are inexpensive, and they are now selling their really small tubes at Michael's (online only I think). Anyway, I LOVE them. I have traveled with them, and they are the perfect sized tube. It doesn't take much so these will still last me a while. They are 20% off right now too (originally $3.49 a tube). So, if you are looking for a good heavy body acrylic but don't want to spend a lot of money, look here. I highly recommend them. www.michaels.com/amsterdam-standard-acrylics-20ml/D048567S.html

Thanks so much - I've been hearing good things about them but didn't realize they were at Michaels! I don't believe they are in stores--only online. I have been using these for years but they only had the large tubes. Now they make the minis which is great for travel and having many more colors.

Have you used them to paint chipboard? If so, what do you use for sealer? Thank you, Patter, for all of the suggestions over the years. I still have my washi tape on wooden rods like you used to have. Dh studied the one your dh made and copied it. I love seeing the colors on my shelf. ❤️

And yes, but I put a very thin layer of gesso on first because the paint does sink into the chipboard. I do not seal it but you can with matte medium.

If the surface is already "coated" (slick) would you still need the base coat of gesso, or do you think it would just be okay to go ahead and paint it. I've got some albums I really like, except for the color. I used a different acrylic type paint on one I did as a test that seemed to turn okay, but if there's something better and more durable then I definitely want that option.

If slick, you might want a clear, grainy (toothy) gesso. It may make the paint "stick" better and not flake off but you could also put a matte medium on top to seal. I guess I'm not sure how slick you mean when you say slick.

questioning , no but I may try it today for you if I have time. I don't see why they wouldn't work. Edited to say though--I would prefer using my larger tubes for Gelli printing though because that takes a bit more paint (if using a larger Gelli plate).

I sooo need to clean my work table and make some prints. I've got the "itch"!
