Who enforces the mask mandates where you live? Local Law enforcement? Health department? According to our state web site, it's up to the towns and cities, while transit police have authority over public transportation. "The Department of Public Health, Local Board of Health, and authorized agents” are authorized to enforce the order and may use the assistance of state and municipal police if necessary"

Tennessee. No mask mandate by the governor, but almost every county has one. Some counties enforce them, some counties do not. My county does not. In my county, in stores people have very good compliance. Our problem is people gathering without masks, like at parties or family events. Another one is outdoor sporting events. They will wear them to get in the gate and then take them off. The health department has warned residents repeatedly that this is how it is spreading here, but it does no good. We have one of the highest rates in the state.

I forgot to mention, I went hiking on Saturday and we stopped for gas and drinks in a small rural town. I was in line behind a police officer who did not have a mask on (despite the sign on the door stating that it was a state law). Irritated the crap out of me.

Blue state. Republican Governor. Mask mandate since 8/1, but really pushing them from early on. Everyone seems pretty compliant. Thankfully I see very very few people not wearing them.
ETA - I am not sure who oversees it or what is done if there are issues?

Ohio - we’ve had a mask mandate since July. There have been attempts to have the mandate removed and our republican governor impeached. I don’t know what the consequences are for not wearing one, and I’m not out a lot, but I’d say it’s followed by the majority. This is very dependent on where your at. More urban areas are doing a good job. The more rural areas have little compliance. And no one is enforcing it. I totally agree! Another Ohioan here. I am 15 min north of Dayton. I've said it on other threads before but in my city, there are stores that do not enforce it and there are the majority of people that do not wear them. They buck it and they scream and holler that it's their right to not wear one and that it is a mandate, NOT a law. It's super frustrating.

I'm in a blue state (only a few counties are blue but the rest are red) but we have a republican gov. It's Larry Hogan who is very progressive and was one of the first to lock everything down in the state. We have also been very, very slow to open stuff back up. I'm independent but I like our gov. because he has been VERY vocal on the crap from the feds. A lot of people don't like him (who are in the red areas) and are screaming at him to lift the mandate but he has started calling people out on FB who are criticizing him. He tells them that they don't have to follow him and they should just go elsewhere. It's funny to read his responses. I rarely see anyone not wearing a mask. We had one statewide that began in May, I believe.

Technically, but no one has a single shit to give. I used to see people walking up to door guards with a mask in their hand but refusing to put it on, just to argue with the employee. Now the sanitizing agents are mostly empty, people have stopped monitoring at the door and people just do whatever they want. Most wear masks, but there are quite a few who don't. Most people just ignore them. I pull my mask down, stare them in the face, and cough because I'm sick of it. It SUCKS here. i like you, and i get the frustration. but that's a really shitty thing to do.

I'm in a red state (Missouri) and we do not have a mask mandate and I imagine that even if people are dying of COVID in the streets, our governor will not order one. The county I live in (St. Charles) does not have a mask mandate and our government is Republican. Most stores do have a mask mandate, but I don't know how enforceable it really is. The. The county next to mine (St. Louis) has a democratic government, and they have had a mask mandate for months.
I've said it before, and I'm gonna keep saying it--this should NEVER have become political. I blame Trump for that.

I’m in Indiana and I don’t even know what the mandates are. Our governor was slow to respond in the beginning. I just know that most businesses have signs requiring them.
I wear mine as do my kids everywhere we go though my 16 yo doesn’t go in many public places.

I am in a red state, but I think our governor has the right idea. We currently don't have a state-wide mandate, but we did when the numbers were at their highest (and will again soon, when the numbers go up). He doesn't believe the state-wide mask mandates have as much of an effect as targeted county-by-county mandates as the numbers shift. People pay more attention when he says, "Hey, Tupelo, you guys have a big upswing!" than when he says, "Hey, whole state, whether you are closer to the coast or to Memphis, whether you are in a rural area or a metro area - wear a mask because people in your area aren't doing what they should without the mandate!"

Not in North Dakota, just individual towns have mandates. same in Arizona. towns were BEGGING the governor to do something about mask-wearing, MONTHS ago, and all he finally did was say that individual towns could enforce it. Thankfully the town and stores where I live has been good about publicizing the requirement, although I do see my share of covidiots.

Not mandated in South Dakota but I would say when you go to stores, etc there are more people wearing masks than those not wearing them.

Are masks mandated? Our cases are out of control and the governor finally mandated wearing them. It should have been done a long time ago, but between this and Trump losing. Ugh!! I read in a Facebook group a couple of weeks ago a parent encouraging others not to get their kids tested.
I feel really bad for store owners. The governor said it was their job to enforce the rules. There are some diehard covid deniers in Utah.
I’m in MN close to the border of WI where we have a lake cabin. We have had a mandate in MN since the very beginning. There has been really good compliance here all along but I’m at the outer fringes of the metro area. But less than an hour away at our lake place, at first there was no mandate. Later on in the summer the Democratic WI governor did mandate mask wearing which I’m sure was followed in the more urban areas, but it didn’t change a thing where our cabin is. The store owners and employees are some of the worst when it comes to compliance. They had the mask mandate signs posted on the doors that were likely required by the governor, but none of the employees were ever masked up any of the times we had to go into one of the stores. More often than not, we would be the only ones in the whole store with masks on all summer long. It’s pretty hard to feel sorry for the store owners when they are some of the worst offenders. Now the Covid cases in that county are surging and up over 40% from last week. I have a hard time feeling bad for people who are being intentionally obtuse. #sorrynotsorry

We're more purple state I guess. Democratic governor who was just re-elected but Trump likely won the state. Masks were mandated months ago. The problem is that people don't wear them. When things get worse, you see more mask wearing in large stores but then it slacks off if cases go down. Right now they are up like everywhere and people are wearing masks at Walmart again.
The worst offenders have become the small businesses who aren't even requiring masks despite the mandate. It is going to take more than a mandate.
Oh, I should say that I live in a very red part of the state. 79% voted for Trump in my county, again.

Kentucky here. Yes, our Democratic governor has issued a mask mandate. I am in a blue county and I see total compliance when I am out in stores, etc. I can not vouch for when you get out of the city into the more rural red counties, which make up the vast majority of the state, in terms of compliance. Gov. Beshear has been on top of this virus from day one, but has been the target of much criticism from the right. He started out really strong in terms of closures, mandates, etc. Now with the virus surging, he is still trying, but not issuing any shutdown orders or any changes other than "recommendations" in "red zones". I think he is trying to balance and walk a very fine tight rope. Also Kentucky here, but in a very red area. I would say there is probably about a 50-60% compliance here. At one time you could go into Walmart and it was enforced, but not now. I recently went into an Auto parts store and none of the employees wore a mask but all of the customers did. I'm very proud of Andy Beshear and how he has handled it, but I see way too much resistance. I could only imagine where we would be as a state if we still had Republican Bevin in office.

Red state / Red County / Red city
State mandate and county and city said they will not enforce it. Governor isn't making it be enforced.

Texas, yes, there is a mandate. I live in a blue city though, and pretty much everyone in town wears one. However, once you get out of the city limits, mask-wearing becomes less and less the norm.

I am in So. Cal., the land of fruits and nuts and almost everyone out here wears masks. Inside stores etc. it is pretty much 100% compliance. We even wear them in drive-thrus to pick up food. The only time I see anyone without one is if they are walking outside and no one is anywhere near another person. Even then their mask is on but pulled down.

Indiana has had a mandate since this summer and it will continue to for the foreseeable future. While the governor waited longer than I would have liked to make the mandate, he was otherwise very quick to take the pandemic seriously and start working on a real plan that involved science and data 🤗. I have been pleasantly surprised by our Republican governor and voted for his re-election. I know I won’t agree with every decision he makes, but I am willing to admit that I was wrong about assuming he would be Pence 2.0 and he has done a good job with the dumpster fire he has been given. It is disappointing to see our numbers skyrocketing right now, and I feel very fortunate to live in an area where people are very vigilant and considerate about dealing with the situation.

These days, I can't tell if Michigan is a blue state or red. We do have a Democratic governor who tried her damnedest to get a mask mandate and other restrictions on place that did work. But then the Trump Republicans screamed loudly and now there's efforts to have her recalled. The current mandate was issued by the health department who the maskholes are claiming to be a Whitmer puppet and say they have no authority. Ugh. I just keep wearing a mask and give those who won't wear one a wide berth when I do go out. 100% this. I just wear my mask and keep my distance and use my hand sanitizer when I am out. I was heartened recently when we took a weekend road trip up to Marquette. The compliance we saw up there restored *some* of our faith. It's also sad that we felt more comfortable up there than in our own town.

Not mandated in Florida...not with Ron Death Sentence as the governor! But mask usage is very high where we live... Tampa area. 100% in stores, or very close to it.

From aarp.com
"Kansas Statewide order: Yes, but widely unenforced
Gov. Laura Kelly issued an executive order July 2 requiring Kansans over the age of 5 to wear face coverings in public. However, a state law passed in June that stripped the governor of some emergency powers allows counties to opt out of the mandate, and about 80 of the state's 105 counties have done so."
My county is one that opted out. So disappointed in my fellow citizens.
Edited to add that the governor is a Democrat and the legislature is overwhelmingly Republican.

Not only no mask mandate, but everything open and a flat out refusal to allow cities and counties to enforce mandates. And he said (paraphrasing) “that’s it, there is no going back.” My city had a mandate, my county didn’t. When ... I can’t even say his name, did that... my city basically threw up their hands and called it quits with a why bother trying. I am, however, pleasantly surprised to see most people wearing them. Albeit incorrectly, but still wearing them. I’m in one of the very red counties...I think my family is pretty much the majority of blue voters. lol

Good luck Governor, but I've seen the outrage over masks. This is going to be a shit show. Definitely. I'm good with my continued hiding and rarely going out for a few more months. Sounds like being smart to me! Stay safe! I don't do anything but run important errands/ shopping, and am relieved to live in an area of Cal. where almost everyone wears a mask and wears it properly. I feel very sorry for mostly minimum wage employees who are expected to enforce mask mandates. Not right.

Our governor has done absolutely nothing useful regarding Covid - and he has had it. Two of the large cities have mask mandates but he will NOT mandate it statewide. He just keeps painting a rosy picture and thanking everyone for doing such a great job. Our numbers have been doubling and this weekend they quadrupled.

Harris County Tx mandated masks April 27. Texas as as a whole mandated July 2. Been wearing them since March 24, when it was first publicly recommended by Fauci and several other ID doctors I know.
