Are masks mandated? Our cases are out of control and the governor finally mandated wearing them. It should have been done a long time ago, but between this and Trump losing. Ugh!! I read in a Facebook group a couple of weeks ago a parent encouraging others not to get their kids tested.
I feel really bad for store owners. The governor said it was their job to enforce the rules. There are some diehard covid deniers in Utah.

Florida - nope - some cities/counties mandated them but our Governor said that the mandates weren't to be enforced. My area never bothered with a mask mandate and there are plenty of covid deniers around here and masks violate their rights

Not in North Dakota, just individual towns have mandates.

We have a Republican Governor. He refused to mandate. For a long time he wouldn't let local governments do it either.
Finally he said municipalities could decide for themselves and almost immediately, every city but two in our major metro created a mandate, with those two crowing about how they valued freedom. Immediately thereafter, the county Board of Supervisors made it Countywide, to include those two cities.
In the rest of the state, it mostly varies city by city. Tucson requires it while Prescott does not.

Arizona here—nope. The governor left it up to local leaders, so many of the larger cities and counties have a mask mandate in place but it isn’t statewide. I suspect our republican governor is trying to kiss up to the trump admin. However, the local city and county officials are mandating masks and will continue to do so as AZ continues to experience a surge in COVID cases and hospitalizations.
ETA—also what @missjen said right above my response.

Good luck Governor, but I've seen the outrage over masks. This is going to be a shit show.

No mask mandate in Missouri. Health groups and school groups have been begging the governor for months, but he isn’t going to do it. I figure he is even less likely to do it now, since he has just been re-elected.

I don’t know if it was WV or the county that tried the mandate. I think county.
Masks are probably worn by 45 % of the county population. They aren’t worn properly by at least 15% of the wearers. In addition, the adjoining state mandates mask wearing and those citizens who refuse to wear them in their home county come to our county for necessities. Both of these counties are a hotbed of COVID at this point.

I’m in a blue city in a red state. Our governor is a pussy and will not issue a state wide mask mandate. He has left it up to the mayor of each individual city/county. Luckily our mayor has done a great job for the most part and issued a mask mandate this summer that is effective until January 31. The director of our health department and the mayor have been very vocal in wearing masks from the start and do daily updates on our numbers and new info. They have stated very clearly they are following the science.

Texas here. Our governor did issue a mask order, but not until early July. Definitely should have been done a lot early. There is no real penalty and just left up to businesses to enforce. I still see people out and about without masks. I’m thankful for the order because it’s allowed us to enforce mask wearing in schools.

We wear them. The state just north of us doesn’t. If we go into that state we wear them and usually get nasty looks. The looks are ok as we know we are protecting ourselves and others.

Ohio - we’ve had a mask mandate since July. There have been attempts to have the mandate removed and our republican governor impeached. I don’t know what the consequences are for not wearing one, and I’m not out a lot, but I’d say it’s followed by the majority.

I’m technically in a blue state (Minnesota) but there are many red areas. We do have a mask mandate but when traveling for work I notice a difference in compliance based on what town j am in.
We have a Democratic governor and many of the republicans are upset with him over the shut down and masks. Our cases are really out of control right now. I have been wondering if he Will put in more restrictions but am dreading that—not just because of the restrictions themselves but because of the response.

Our Republican governor instituted a mask mandate in July. It isn't really enforced, but the majority of people I see in public are wearing them (although maybe 1/3 of them are wearing them with their noses hanging out). Last week the governor extended the mask mandate, but removed the capacity requirements inside bars/restaurants. Our cases are still rising, which a bunch of the population says "proves" that masks don't work (It couldn't possibly have anything to do with schools restarting, sporting events going on again, businesses moving away from telework, etc).

More urban areas are doing a good job. The more rural areas have little compliance. And no one is enforcing it.

Kentucky here. Yes, our Democratic governor has issued a mask mandate. I am in a blue county and I see total compliance when I am out in stores, etc. I can not vouch for when you get out of the city into the more rural red counties, which make up the vast majority of the state, in terms of compliance. Gov. Beshear has been on top of this virus from day one, but has been the target of much criticism from the right. He started out really strong in terms of closures, mandates, etc. Now with the virus surging, he is still trying, but not issuing any shutdown orders or any changes other than "recommendations" in "red zones". I think he is trying to balance and walk a very fine tight rope.

I'm in a blue state with a Republican Governor. Baker has a mask mandate in place, and I see pretty much 100% compliance. Only a few whiners here. There's only a fine for not wearing one on public transportation -- $300. Most towns have had one in place since early on, and people got used to them quickly. I think part of it is that it hit so hard early on -- when it was all very scary and new and before the freedom fighters had a chance to take hold. We were all trying anything we could in order to reduce the numbers, and it worked. Our numbers are creeping up again, probably due to all the college students returning and people going indoors more with the weather. Baker tightened us up, going back a level the other day.

These days, I can't tell if Michigan is a blue state or red. We do have a Democratic governor who tried her damnedest to get a mask mandate and other restrictions on place that did work. But then the Trump Republicans screamed loudly and now there's efforts to have her recalled. The current mandate was issued by the health department who the maskholes are claiming to be a Whitmer puppet and say they have no authority.
Ugh. I just keep wearing a mask and give those who won't wear one a wide berth when I do go out.

I'm in a blue state with a republican governor. He mandated masks early and I've seen compliance. He just went stricter this weekend (we're in a state of emergency, again)....masks 100% of the time, even out side, even when you can socially distant. If someone refuses to wear a mask, the proprietor can refuse entry into the establishment. AND it's $300 per violation. I haven't been out and about other than to 'needed' places (grocery store, pharmacy, etc) and I've seen compliance all along. Only once, in a grocery store did I see someone not wearing a mask. Now if we could please define wearing a mask as covering BOTH your nose AND your mouth, that would be helpful.

Technically, but no one has a single shit to give. I used to see people walking up to door guards with a mask in their hand but refusing to put it on, just to argue with the employee. Now the sanitizing agents are mostly empty, people have stopped monitoring at the door and people just do whatever they want.
Most wear masks, but there are quite a few who don't. Most people just ignore them. I pull my mask down, stare them in the face, and cough because I'm sick of it.
It SUCKS here.

Indiana here. Yes we have a mask mandate and have had for several months. Our governor just extended it to the end of December. We had really low numbers over the summer but they have skyrocketed in recent weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if Holcomb starts adding back restrictions soon.

Who enforces the mask mandates where you live? Local Law enforcement? Health department?
