Ok ladies, tell me what I need to know (good and bad) about a Peloton. We are considering the bike+
We want to use it as a family - do we each need a subscription?
What kind of shoes do you have?
I am afraid of the uncomfortable seat - did you get a gel cover?
Do you use it as much as you thought you would? The last thing I want to do is have an expensive piece of equipment go to waste.
Do you feel it has helped you lose weight/improve cardio health?
What do you wish you knew before you bought it?
Thank you for any help you can give me!

Before you spend a fortune on a Peleton, know that there are other bikes that cost much less and have the same mechanism that Peleton uses. What that means is it has the same smooth ride as the Peleton. Also, you don't need the bike to have the subscription. There are bikes out there that transmit the data the exact same way as the Peleton but again, not nearly as costly.
What I have told others is while it seems like a great idea to do spin, it's really a better investment to take some classes and see if you like it before you invest in a bike. I did spin/taught spin classes for YEARS before I invested in one.
Also, please be aware that the Peleton clips are proprietary and while you can swap out the clips if you buy your own shoes (which I recommend), you cannot easily jump from one bike to a Peleton without swapping out the clips and I don't recommend that. It is very easy to undertighten the clips and then when you try to take your shoes out of the clips, they slip and won't come out. If that happens, it is rare to be able to get the shoe out without damaging it. Ask me how I know this? It happened to me. $100 shoes down the drain.

I don't have the Peloton, but I recently got a Schwinn that's basically the same thing.
I started out with 15-20 minute rides to get used to it. These bikes run sooooo smoothly and quietly, you won't believe it. I don't do subscription rides, but there's a great place to prop up my tablet and watch netflix while I ride.
The seat on mine is perfectly fine, I just had some very mild soreness the first few rides. I'm sure the Peloton is similar.
My DH really loves it. He's always used the bike at the gym for his cardio, so he's super happy.
Mine has a heart rate monitor, so I can make sure I'm getting a good cardio workout. I've been using it a lot. I got it because we won't be outside as much or going to the gym over the winter. I want to maintain the exercise consistency that I've developed over the last few months into winter.
I'm super happy with my purchase, and glad I bought it.
ETA: My bike has straps on the pedals -- I haven't bothered to buy shoes with clips yet. I just wear my regular sneakers. I might ask for them for Christmas, but I've done perfectly fine without them.

I love mine. I have had it for 6 months now and ride it 5-6 x a week plus I do some of the other exercises. From what I hear, they have a LONG back order right now. My coworker ordered one 2 months ago and was given a delivery date of December!!

One subscription and then your other family members will have their own profile. I have the peloton shoes but I think they run small/narrow so I wear the ones I bought for dh, which are a little bigger. I have no problems with the seat. I love mine. Ok, so I am SUPER lazy. Like seriously. I've never worked out before in my life. And I can not wait to get home and ride or do a class like strength or yoga. The instructors push me in motivating ways. It has helped me feel totally stronger. I've never been in this good a shape in my life. That shape is still a bit pear shaped because I LOVE to eat as well. So if I can get that under control, I'll do better. I feel so much better than I did a few months ago. I will be honest, with this covid stuff and me just eating, gaining weight, I was getting a bit depressed. NO longer thanks to peloton. So, I wished I knew the shoes are narrow. I also have a different brand treadmill and wish they were both peloton so my workouts synched a bit better. I currently do my tread classes via my phone through the peloton app. It would be nice for it to be a bit bigger and on the screen but I do like my off brand tread so I will live with it.
Let us know if you pull the trigger!
My referral code is RRQGH7 For every Peloton Bike or Tread purchased using your unique referral code, you’ll receive up to $100 off your next purchase at the online Peloton Boutique. The person you referred will receive $100 towards accessories at purchase.

We bought one in August and it was delivered about six weeks later. I wish I'd known how long it would take when I got interested!
I love it. I've had it for ten weeks and I ride almost every day. My husband also does so. I'm not trying to lose weight, but dh is, and has lost about 20 pounds.
What I love about the classes is (1) how many there are, (2) that they are different lengths and styles, and it's easy to search for what you want, and (3) you can connect socially with other riders for motivation. It's also a culture -- you and other users will talk about particular instructors and rides, and everyone I know did the Hamilton ride the day it cam out, eg.
I didn't do a ton of research into Peloton alternatives, so I do not have any perspective to offer there. I do not know a single person IRL who regrets buying theirs, and In These Times, I know an awful lot of people who have bought them (also, I bought mine before the + came out).
ETA: I forgot to say, my ten-year-old twins are too small for the bike, but they love the other classes that you get via the subscription.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks. I love it! I wish I would have bought it earlier. We had the original bike scheduled for delivery the day after the bike + was announced and we opted to cancel that and get the bike+.
I ride mine almost everyday and have started using the strength classes. I've paused my Orange Theory membership and I'm not sure I will ever go back. I don't like the numbers in our county with Covid, so right now I'm just doing my at home stuff and the Peloton has made it great!

Got ours in March, 1 week after we ordered it. I love it and use it at least 4 times a week often doing other Peloton workouts on off days. We got the cleats so not sure what's its like to ride without. I like, but don't love the seat, not enough to try something else. I did Pilates and recreational tennis, never took a spin class, deplore gyms, but for whatever reason (probably topped by the I got nothing better to do reason ) this has totally been one of the best things that has come from Covid. I enjoy all the instructors and I love being able to find playlists that I find motivating.

We got one in April at DH's suggestion. I had been doing spin class weekly for a few years and 1 class a week was fine for me so I wasn't totally gung-ho, but figured it could be nice to have while we couldn't go to the gym. Turns out I LOVE it and use it more than I expected - generally 3-4 times/week! The leaderboard really inspires me. When I don't do a cycle class, I'll do one of Peloton's other classes like walk/run (now I am wondering if i "need" Peloton's tread).
DH & I both have spin shoes but I have the spd clips and he has delta clips, which is what the Peloton uses. So he uses his shoes and I ordered a pair of Peloton's shoes. They seem fine to me.
I didn't have an issue with the seat; probably because I'd been spinning for awhile already. I'd just suggest getting some padded shorts, taking short rides to start, and taking a day off between classes until you get used to it.

After the controversy about the commercial last year, a few acquaintances decided to check it out. They loved it! It's not in the budget for me, but if it was I would love one. I need to exercise and it's hard in the winter. We cancelled our gym membership because of covid. I may look at some of the other options.

I’m another one that for a fauxleton- the Schwinn. I’ve had it 4 months. I prefer that to the peloton I think, just because the subscription is much cheaper and I could use other services with the bike if I want.
How much you use it will be very personal. Is there any way to try a class first? Even using another brand spin bike and using the month free preview on the app. I would say for me, picking instructors and music styles I like makes a huge difference in how much I like riding. I still miss the gym but being able to work my COVID stress out on the bike has been so helpful.

We pulled the trigger and ordered the Bike +. We used your referral code. Thank you!! It will be delivered January 6, which is quicker than I thought. I am very excited! In the meantime, I am going to be using the app to jump start my treadmill workouts.

I could buy the Peloton app for $12.99/month but I've been using a trainer on Youtube- Kaleigh Cohen. She's great and free!!! The pedals can be switched to SPD with cycling shoes which I will do in the next month or so. I ride 4-5 times a week. Indoor cycling has been fantastic for my health during covid.

Ok ladies, tell me what I need to know (good and bad) about a Peloton. We are considering the bike+ We want to use it as a family - do we each need a subscription? Nope! Just one. They used to have a limit of users per bike, but with the pandemic they have allowed unlimited users. What kind of shoes do you have? I have a pair of specialized shoes that I love. I have wide feet and the Peloton ones weren't wide enough for me. I am afraid of the uncomfortable seat - did you get a gel cover? Nope. I did get my sitz bones measured and ended up getting a seat that fit them better, but it actually has less padding than the one that comes with the bike. It made a huge difference for me. Do you use it as much as you thought you would? The last thing I want to do is have an expensive piece of equipment go to waste. I love it!! It took me a little bit to get my groove, but I have ridden every day since April 1. I have had my bike since January 2019 and I have done 745 rides and 1,477 workouts total. Do you feel it has helped you lose weight/improve cardio health? Yes!! But the weight loss comes more from the kitchen than the bike. Cardio/strength for sure. I have been doing the Power Zone Challenges since last fall and I have seen huge improvement. powerzonepack.com/ has all the information. My FTP has improved 100+ points in the last year. I went from being able to do 6 miles in 30 minutes to being able to do 9.3 miles in that amount of time. I highly recommend doing them if that is your goal. What do you wish you knew before you bought it? That you really need to take multiple classes from all of the instructors to figure out who you like. I have my favorites, my mom has different favorites. It totally depends on the style and personalities that you jive with. Thank you for any help you can give me! Yes there are other bikes that work just fine, but they are not the same. There is feedback that you get on the actual bike that you just can't/don't get from a non-peloton bike. Before using a real one I wouldn't have thought there was much of a difference, now I seriously don't want to go on vacation unless I have a peloton or can take mine with me. Seriously, we are thinking about going to Yosemite and staying in a cabin and we are thinking of taking it in a trailer with us so I can have it with me.
Find your community. There are peloton groups for everything you can think of from lawyers, to doctors, to first responders, to craft cocktails, to location specific groups, to XXL riders, to triathletes, etc. Find your group and they will lift you up. I know maybe 20 people in real life that have Pelotons, but I have over 2,000 followers so any time I hop on I have "people" to ride with.
I don't use the regular leaderboard 99% of the time. I filter it to people I follow or follow the same #'s and just focus on riding and high fiving those people. I also love filtering power zone rides that I have already done so that the "leader" board that I am using is just my previous times doing a ride, so I am riding against myself. I find it very motivating and love seeing how much I have improved on a particular ride. The ride I did this morning I have done 5 times. My output the first time I did it was around 200, but today I was near 345.
It takes some getting used to, yes your butt will hurt, but you will get used to it. At this point I usually only wear padded shorts when I am riding 60 minutes or longer. There is a group that arranges "Tours" a couple of times a year that you can sign up to do 35-200+ miles over a weekend. I did the October one and did 100 miles over the 2 days.
I LOVE mine and I am happy to answer any questions you might have. I have the regular bike and don't feel the need to upgrade to the bike+ right now. But I also haven't tried it so I can't compare the two. They are having some delays right now because of shipping and stuff, but they will arrive eventually and it is totally worth the wait.
I am #craftymomof4, my account is "private" but if you ask to follow me I will allow it, but I am at my max and can't follow any more people at this point. I think we also have a pea #, but I don't remember what it is and I had to unfollow it because I had 10 other groups that I wanted to be following. I am hoping they will allow more #'s in the future.

Yay! Glad you ordered the bike - you will love it, I’m sure! I’ve had mine since the beginning of April. I started with the app and a cheap bike from Amazon and then ended up with some unexpected money and decided to take the plunge. I went from riding a couple days a week because it was a nice low impact change from other things I was doing to LOVING it. The actual peloton made a world of difference to me. It was a combo of using the clipped in shoes (before I had cages) and being able to see my metrics and compete on the leaderboard.
I am a big user of all content. I actually have logged more yoga classes than cycling (it’s very close) and I have lots of Strength classes and walking too (using my non peloton treadmill).
My rear just got used to the seat after about a week. Not gonna lie, it was pretty uncomfortable until then! Now it’s no issue to ride for an hour +. I don’t use padded shorts and the seat it came with is comfortable to me. I didn’t like the shoes and wish I didn’t buy them. They are too narrow for me and my toes would go numb. I prefer the delta cleats it came with to the SPD pedals so I bought some Bontragers and thar fixed it.
I had already lost 45 pounds and was in maintainance mode when I got the bike so it hasn’t been about losing weight for me. It’s been great for maintaining and getting so strong and building endurance. Personally, my weight loss was tied to diet over working out.

reading with interest as i have begun researching the bowflex c6 spinning bike. i can't justify the peloton cost. all the reviews say very comparabile - just have to use your own ipad (not built in screen like peloton) and it has bear claws, not shoes (which i prefer). can get membership and do all the classes, just don't have access to the leaderboard (and i am not competitative that way).
haven't pulled the trigger JUST because it's a 3 month delivery...i guess the longer i wait, the longer that will get drawn out... and could get even longer... our numbers are going up up up and more restrictions coming into effective friday at midnight.
think i am going to do it!

LOL, we are having our kitchen and laundry room gutted and renovated and our hardwoods sanded/refinished so we decided to leave for a month to be out of the mess - but I have to admit I was trying to decide if we could somehow stay in the disaster simply so I'd have my peloton. I also debated whether we would bring it with us but. I've been doing the run/walks and HIIT workouts, but still miss my cycle classes. I think a peloton rental program for vacationers would be an excellent idea!

What I like from the peloton are graphs after the ride that show your data for the ride - there is one for output, cadence, resistance and speed. I focus mostly on output and resistance. Plus, I've been doing a lot of the power zone training where you work in specific zones (1-7) as opposed to cadence/resistance. Peloton has a powerzone training program where you take a baseline test, it calculates your zones and then a bar shows up on the screen that measures what zone you are in (for example, my zone 1 could be output from 1-90, zone 2 91-115, zone 3 116 - 130, etc.) There are graphs that will then show you which zones you were in during the ride. (And for the leaderboard - I would not call myself a competitive person, but for some reason, I've found that does motivate me - i'm never going to be at the top of the board, but I will filter down to my gender/age group and then see how I do, and I'll find myself pushing a little harder to stay with someone or pass them.)

I'm not sure but that's the number 1 thing I use mine for since almost all of the rides I do are power zone rides. I also like to know when I PR, and I'm not sure you would be able to figure that out on another bike unless you keep a spreadsheet. I am not really interested in the leaderboard, but if I take a class multiple times, I like to filter it on just myself to see how much I've improved since I did that class.

There is not a FTP Zone on my Echelon. It is a $500 bike. I do have cadence, resistance, speed, output, distance. I set up my Echelon account to automatically download to Strava which gives me all my data and graphs. I like Strava because I can add my walks, kayaking, hiking etc. and it tracks my outdoor routes. I may try the Peloton app for the free month but I'm also curious about the Apple Fit program which is coming out later this year and would like to give it a try.

What feedback do you get that I can't get on a non peloton? Other than leaderboard? I'm curious to know what I'm missing. So on most rides that aren't live or power zone it has the gauge over where your resistance and cadence are that tells you the range you are supposed to be in on the particular ride. Also on other bikes that I have ridden there is no real comparison on the resistance number. Cadence, in theory should be at least similar, but not resistance. I am also a HUGE fan of Power Zone training. There are 4 instructors that "specialize" in power zone rides; Matt, Christine, Dennis, and Olivia, Christian Van de Velde also has a couple PZ rides. In Power Zone training you take an FTP (Functional Threshold Power) test that determines your zones. Zones are 1-7. Zone 1: Very Easy < 55% of FTP, Active recovery intensity Zone 2: Moderate 56-75% of FTP, Long ride pace, Conversational intensity Zone 3: Sustainable 76-90% of FTP, Sustainable for well over an hour, Conversation becomes difficult Zone 4: Challenging 91-105% of FTP, Sustainable for about one hour at max Zone 5: Hard 106-120% of FTP, Sustainable for 10-15 minutes at max Zone 6: Very Hard 121-150% of FTP, Sustainable for 30 seconds up to 3-5 minutes max Zone 7: Max Effort >151% of FTP, Sustainable for only a few seconds Once you have taken the test on a Peloton bike it converts your average output for the test and determines your zones. Then a pretty bar appears at the bottom of your Peloton screen under your output and it is color coded and shows what zone you are at at any given time. Making it very easy to see what zone you are in during a ride. So when the instructor tells you zone 3, 80 cadence you can manipulate your resistance and cadence to get yourself in zone 3. I have been doing the challenges since Fall 2019. My FTP has improved 100 points and my power to weight ratio has gone from 1.13 w/Kg to 2.34 w/Kg in the last year. Meaning I started at putting out 1.13 watts per kg and now I am putting out 2.34 watts per kg and I have lost 30lbs. Yes you can do the peloton workouts with a phone/iPad and another bike, is it the same? No. But if price is an issue by all means get what fits your budget, what matters is that you are moving your body, enjoying yourself, and sustaining a workout lifestyle. For me, having a Peloton bike has been worth every penny. I have used my road bike on a trainer before for training, but didn't "enjoy" it. I had never actually taken a spin class before getting mine. Now I ride daily, some days (like today) twice, a 45 min powerzone endurance ride this morning and another 30 power zone ride tonight before dinner. I love the community I have found on facebook with it and I really enjoy the instructors that I ride with. My dh has ridden in a showroom with me, but for his training (half ironman and olympic distance triathlons) he prefers Zwift and a smart trainer, but that wasn't motivating for me. I love the results that I have seen and I am motivated to ride daily and I enjoy it. I have never looked forward to my workouts the way I do with my Peloton. I LOVE sleep, but at least 5 days a week I am getting up early to get my ride done before I start my day, because if I don't I am a grouch until I get it done. I feel so much better and ready to deal with my 4 kids if I have gotten it in. So yes, I have totally drunk the kool-aid and love my Peloton! Happy to answer any questions!

I should add that at the end of last year I realized I was close to hitting 2019 miles for the year, I missed it by 127 miles. At the time I wasn't riding as religiously as I am now. So for this year, I challenged myself to do 2020 miles. I hit that in July. So I changed it to 4040 and I will probably hit that by the end of this month. I was riding at least 4 days a week till April, traveled in February and did a strength challenge in March and have ridden all but 1 day since April 1, you can see the difference in my mileage based on that!
Completed since January 1, 2020: 3734 miles Remaining miles to 4040: 306 miles % Complete: 92.4% Avg To Reach Goal: 6.1/day Monthly Breakdown (2020) January 292mi February 201mi March 163mi April 377mi May 408mi June 413mi July 429mi August 402mi September 401mi October 507mi November 140mi
