On this day, my heart remembers my grandfather who served in World War I. My father who served in WW II. And my brother who was Navy career.
And all the men and women who have given so selflessly of themselves so that I can walk in freedom in a country I love with a passion.

My grandfather was a fighter pilot in WWII. He was one of those old cocky SOB's, had some amazing stories. Lost him about 25 years ago.

DH retired from the Marine Corps after 30 years of service. Grateful for his service and his fine example to our kids.
Thank you to all vets, those who served in peace and in war.

Thank you to all those who served, and to those currently serving. Today especially we remember DH's father (Navy), who served in both theaters during WWII, and his maternal grandfather (Army) who served during WWI. My dad was Army, my uncle was career Navy (submarines) and several cousins have served in the Army and Air Force.

To all those that served, thank you for your service. Some gave all. My great uncle; Robert Q Zeigler, buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. KIA on June 29, 1944. My mother was 7 years old when he was killed. To this day, she talks about the sheriff delivering the telegraph to her parents ranch. Her mother told the sheriff he didn't need to read to her. She knew what it said.

We are a military family going back to the revolutionary war. But today I especially remember:
My Dad, career Army who served his country for 26 years. His two older brothers, one (Navy) and the other (Army). His three brothers-in-law (Army). My brother and sister-in-law (Army). My Niece's mother (Army) My brother-in-law (Army) killed in Vietnam. My husband's cousin (Army) also killed in Vietnam.
There are many many more. Maybe one day I will make a list.
Thank you to all who have served.

I too, thank all our Pea Veterans and all the peas with family that have or are serving. I know the sacrifices made and appreciate them. DH is a 20 year Navy Vet, both my Grandfathers and Uncle were Vets, my Stepdad is a Vietnam Vet who still struggles with PTSD and his dreams are haunted. My Son and Son in law are both serving in the Air Force and of course the other many friends that are Vets.

My stepfather was killed in the Air Force in an airplane accident - he also served in WWII and was part of the Berlin Airlift Both uncles served in WWII, both brothers served as did my BIL during the Vietnam conflict. Two nephews serve now, one is an officer in the Marines the other is in the reserve. My husband served in the Air Force but does not consider himself deserving of any extra honors as he did not serve in any war. My SIL served in the Marines.
Actually, every close male relative served in the Armed Forces. It is a honor to live among such men as that.

My two uncles both served. My father had a heart murmur, and was classified 4-F much to his dismay. He had tried to enlist I guess. He never got over being turned down to serve our country.

Ugh, I just typed out a lonnnng post, quoting MANY of you, and sending all of you my condolences for your family members who died **But my laptop decided to go crazy and my post is GONE!** The short version the other part of my long post that's gone: I used to work with many veterans, and I LOVED hearing their stories !!!! There are two extra special WW 2 veterans that will always hold a special place in my heart. One was a hero, but he NEVER talked about that---he ONLY talked and cried about the friends he lost It makes me sad that we don't have many WW 2 veterans left. I'm sooo thankful I got to know some of them!

My dad was a Korean war vet, though he was a medic stateside in a psychiatric hospital. So, he worked w/a lot of soldiers w/PTSD. Back then PTSD wasn't a diagnosed condition and they didn't have the treatment that they have today, but my dad did what he could to welcome these brave men back and to help them re-establish their lives. He loved the work and wanted to become a psychiatrist after the war, but his life went into a different direction in college.
Thank you to all of your loved ones who kept us safe from harm.

And all the men and women who have given so selflessly of themselves so that I can walk in freedom in a country I love with a passion. Clearly you don't see the hypocrisy here?? You say they fought for your freedom and I'll assume also your right to live in a democratic country? They gave up their lives fighting against dictators, despots & autocrats so that people could be free - and just look at what you voted for. Trump is making a mockery of what they died for.

I was about 10 years old before I realized that all little boys didn't grow up and go off to war. All the men in my family had until that point.
A thank you to all those who have served in our military and helped us to preserve our freedom.

As a veteran I always appreciate Veterans Day. I know many people like to honor their family members now gone who served. Veterans Day honors those who are still living. They are different holidays. I also agree with pjaye. Anyone who voted for Trump has no business thanking anyone for their military service.
