There is a lost dog in our community and we are trying to help the owners find the dog. Does anyone have any tips that worked for them in the past? We are driving around the areas that the dog has been spotted. (We saw her but she runs away from people, so no one has been able to get her). Signs have been posted in the area and social media. Police, animal shelters and vets have been notified. She put their clothes and dog blankets in the area the dog has been seen.
Any tips would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know of any services that can help?

Has the SM posting included NextDoor? Half our posts seem to be about connecting lost/found dogs with owners and I know there is a local expert that always comes through. Good luck.

Anyone looking should know the name and have a cheeseburger in the car.

We had a dog in our community go missing last week. The owner put its dog bed outside for the night and woke the next morning to find the dog in its bed.

In our community we blast it on FB pages. We have several “dog finders” who hop on and help with recovery.

I was going to suggest FB as well. We have several different lost dogs groups so post on all of them, including neighboring cities. People seem to try really hard to reunite pets on our sites.

Helped in many a lost dog search. One took.8 months and a live trap. Have the owner put articles of clothing, blankets or towels.with their scent on them in the places the dog has been seen. If some one near by has a big enough live trap, especially if it is a skittish dog, and bait near it and in it some super appealing to the dog food/ treats. Again put a blanket over and in it with the owners scent. And you may actually find some one with a of that tracks dogs. Also, one set of Doberman were found 30+ mikes from home. Had the owner not gone to every small town around and put posters up at quick shops, farms store and truck stops he might not have gotten them back prayers the dog is quickly reunited with it's owner.

The owner was just asking on the facebook post if anyone knew where to find the live traps. Do you know where we may be able to find them? I think the owner was putting blankets and clothing at the two places where the dog was seen (she seems not willing to go to us, so we haven't been able to get close to her). She has been putting signs up and we have been suggesting new places (clubhouses at local neighborhoods, etc.).
People are really good at wanting to help, and drive around looking for the dog. We live close to both places the dog was seen, so we just do a drive around a few times a day.

Does anyone know where you can find live traps? I have been calling around, and only can find small traps. The missing dog is a husky.

Thank you! Yes, a few of us posted on nextdoor when we found out about it. That website is wonderful! If the owner or someone else in the search has a Ring camera, try posting there as well. I've seen a few postings on our Ring notifications. We have our settings set to cover the widest area possible. Also, enlarge your search area. A recent search I followed on NextDoor ended successfully, but the dog was found almost 9 miles away.

This. Set out scent articles including the dogs bed, and articles of clothing worn by the person that she is most bonded to. Also include feeding stations that are monitored by a trail camera. If the food goes missing, replenish. Once the dog finds the food, she is more likely to stay in the area. If people actively pursue the dog she is less likely to stay and is more in danger of running into traffic. Hand out flyers and ask that people not actively try to catch the dog but to phone the owners if seen. Large, brightly coloured signs placed at intersections can also bring in sightings (be sure to check your local by-laws). Post to social media. There is a group on Facebook called "Lost Dog Trapping" that has a list of trappers throughout the US and Canada. While you won't be able to post the missing dog but you may be able to find someone nearby that can assist. Good luck!

Re: live traps. I live in Kansas where big cats are rare. But we were trying to catch a 2year old German Shepherd Dog. Put out the word and a gentleman had one for trapping and relocating large cats, mainly bib cats. check.with local vets,farmers/ranchers or other rescue groups. Continued prayers for them I had a dog stolen from.my back yard decades ago and it is so hard to never find out where they are.

I think she is just at a loss for how to get her dog back. People have spotted the dog, but she is scared and runs away. I drive around for a couple hours every day in the areas she has been hanging out, but didn't see her today. We live just a mile or two away from where she has been seen.

A recent search I followed on NextDoor ended successfully, but the dog was found almost 9 miles away. What is a Ring camera? Is that a camera at a front door? So far the dog has been spotted within just 2-3 miles of it's house. We were worried a couple days ago as it was headed into a more rural area with woods and private property (and houses not in a neighborhood). So we can't even walk the area. Just drive and see if the dog is walking near the road. And there are no businesses, shops etc., so no way to even put up notifications. I would love to mail "lost dog" flyers to the houses along the rural road, but I don't know if that would be too "creepy"?
That's great that your recent search was successful! Gives us hope! We are hoping the dog heads back to our area as there are lots of neighborhoods and helpful people.

I hope you are able to catch the German Shepherd. We have a German Shepherd and I can't imagine if we lost her.
The owner is reaching out to rescue groups to let them know to be on the lookout and to get ideas from them for finding the dog.

We had two dogs out on an adventure and we had reported sightings, but no one could get close enough. A woman with a similar van to ours spotted them, stopped the car, leaned over and opened the passenger door, without even getting out of the car. Our canine fools came running right over and jumped in to go for a ride. Good thing she was nice and got on her phone immediately looking for our post to identify the owners. I have no idea why that worked, but they didn't want to cooperate with any catching, but were definitely game for a fun ride. That's a great suggestion! Thanks!
