I don't think the GOP is even THAT stupid!? Ok, maybe they are... WHY on earth would they back/nominate him?? Hopefully after 4 years of "recovery" they will realize the harm he inflicted and not give him the time of day. Besides... can a person really run for President from prison? Just curious... Check this out

I think there is a possibility of a Trump 2024 campaign, but not the current president. More likely Don Jr or Ivanka, assuming they don't get caught up in legal issues as well.

From the article "Because Trump is not just the dominant figure in the party (and among the party's base) right now. He is the only face of the party, the result of a four-year campaign designed to eradicate all dissenting voices from within the GOP, while turning the remainders into willing supplicants."

Donald Trump will NOT be in the physical (or possibly mental) condition to actually make another Presidential run 4 years from now. I hope he's in prison, but if he's not, he's certainly not healthy enough to run again. IMO.
ETA: and I sure as heck do not even want to even ENTERTAIN the idea of any next-generation Trumps being anywhere NEAR politics, lol.

I would just like to have Biden firmly ensconced in the White House before I start worrying about this. Besides I think the people dumb enough to support trump have short attention spans and will have moved on by then. Not saying their new guy will be any better, but I do think that their focus will be somewhere else in 2024.

He likes the power and the attention, but not the office.

Just listening to him wheeze/sniff whenever he talks into a microphone, I think he isn't well. The way he stands also gives me pause. He does golf and that is exercise even if he uses a cart, so he's got that going for him. But at his age, it is very easy to go downhill quickly if you aren't actively taking care of yourself.

Someone published a list of new URLs the GOP obtained and there are a few for Ivanka and DonJr insinuating they could run for the House or Senate.
Hopefully all of them will be convicted of state charges.
We know that Trump is going to give himself and his family pardons for future crimes. Can you imagine if one of them got that free pass and became president! They would literally be untouchable.

I feel it is just a ploy to keep donations coming in.

not going to happen. given time, people move on. even from trump. he may still have his diehards but i think a lot more of the GOP is reasonable and will want someone less out there than trump.

I think it’s a way to make money and another attempt to concede without conceding. Like the Presidential version of “Be right back...”
I know the media loves to talk about his throngs of loyal admirers and fans (looks like Biden has more fans at 77 million), but I agree with previous posters who think the attention span of the MAGA base is not long.

I think they have all seen how easy it was to game the system and profit from the position, so it will be hard to keep them away unless they are all in jail.

If he announces his candidacy for 2024 immediately upon leaving office, it would be more problematic for the DOJ to prosecute him, I think. Appearance of Biden prosecuting a political rival and all.
I don’t think it would stop the state of New York, though.

Well, since there is a 2-term limit on the number of times a person can hold the office of President, the fact that he is talking about running in 2024, which would be his second term, that must mean he is actually accepting that he did not and cannot win in 2020. It isn't a concession speech, but it is something, right?

He wants to start some media company and ruin Fox is what I read. I have no idea if he really does, or if he was just ranting.

What I'm curious about is what the GOP leadership will do if trump announces for 2024. Do they back him? His base clearly isn't enough to get him elected again. You'd think they would prefer to get someone on the ticket who can win. Rubio, Graham, Cruz...all the sycophants that will likely want to run again...what do they do? If jr. or ivanka run, does the GOP back them??
I think if trump wants to run again, he will announce it as soon as he acknowledges he has lost. (Not concedes...I don't think he will concede. But I think at some point he will need to move forward, even if it's January fucking 19th!) If that happens, I hope they start to cannibalize each other.
Thoughts?

I think I'm okay with the grifter-in-chief starting a campaign. You KNOW any more at he raises will go in his pocket instead of RNC or viable candidates. While I hate the idea of him profiting, I am okay if he bleeds his followers dry and then bails on them. He will blame other Republicans for his problems if they don't blindly support him, and I don't think the trumpers will show up for other candidates.
And besides, you KNOW he will do something shady with the money, and this time he won't get have the government to protect him. So I don't think he will get to keep it in the end.
ETA I just saw that any donations under $8000 to “Stop the Steal” go to trumps defense fund and the RNC. I think that is only because he thinks he needs the RNC to “win” this election. Once he announces a run for 2024, I think that will change.

He'll keep us guessing for a while, announcing that he will be announcing a run.
I think he wants to be the king maker for whoever runs next more than running himself and is more likely to try start a media empire to replace FOX and OAN. And all the GOP wanting to be on the top of the ticket are going to have to figure out what they need to do to get his endorsement over any of his offspring. Looking at you Pompeo, Cotton, Haley, DeSantis, Cruz and Carlson.
