I know coupeville (my mother in law lives near there).. and that is one of the most expensive properties anywhere near there..you might know coupeville as where they filmed exteriors of "practical magic".. cute waterfront town..founded in the 1850's.. lots of victorias.. historic prairie Ebey's Landing. a hospital, and near by are 2-3 blockhouses built during Indian wars of 1850's. the Native americans would cross the island at this spot and kept the woods cleared.
wonder how long that will stay on the market. Whidbey Island is popular with retired military.. has great weather and less rain than many places in western WA.. and they have access to the PX at the Naval Air station.

I'd buy it if I had an extra $6 million laying around.

I sleuthed out the address. It's 422 Mitchell Drive in Coupeville. The first house in the pic is right next to another house, then it looks like it has a lot between it and the next house. the big green structure in the photos is across the street. Then the 59 acres must go west towards the water.
Really interesting. I would totally buy it if I had $6 million as well!

It is actually 2 houses, if you read the listing, plus the huge garage facility. Very nice! Maybe if I win the lottery.

Impressive! That's a lot of work that went into that set up. DH would go bananas for it.

Why would someone need a tunnel to get to the woods? Bullet proof walls? Very strange. Coupeville is a super cute little town and would be the last place I would think one needs to worry about zombies.

The link says to watch the video tour but I don't see it on there. Do I need another cup of coffee?

with an address.. this is not actually in coupeville.. it is closer to greenbank (a post office in the wide part of the road).. if you went due west from my mother in laws house, you would run into this one. about 10 miles south of coupeville. they would have wonderful views from the beach of the olympic mountains. my mother in law lives off north bluff road.

my in laws bought their property in the 1950's.. when there was no road to their land. they built their retirement home in the 1980's.. right on the water, eagles nesting in the trees off the deck..it is a fabulous home. but it will probably be sold after my mother in law dies. there will be no great grandkids in the family, so doesn't make sense to hold it.

From what I know of those with a prepper mindset, they're very private and don't like sharing "intel" (information about their homes, safety plans, etc.) so it must have been really hard for the owners to put this all out there publicly. If I bought it, I'd wonder if there were any other secret tunnels or other stuff that didn't get included in the public disclosures.
Everything is much nicer than what I assumed compound-style living quarters would be, too.

Why would someone need a tunnel to get to the woods? Bullet proof walls? Very strange. Coupeville is a super cute little town and would be the last place I would think one needs to worry about zombies. If you are someone who believes that there will be massive civil unrest for one reason or another - zombie apocalypse, overthrow of the government, nuclear war, etc. - and you have extra money to spend, you might build a compound/house that will allow you to be somewhat safe when society completely breaks down, the ability to get food at a supermarket goes away, and the scavaging hoards come to try to take whatever you have. The idea is to have a location where you wouldn’t need to leave the property to survive - hence the small farm and greenhouses in the garden. And the storage units full of shelf stable food in the garage. You would need bullet proof walls to keep safe, and a tunnel to the woods would allow you to exit the compound, even if the hoards lay siege to the perimeter of your property. It takes a special mindset, I think, to understand.

Well if Jesus is coming, I'd be happy living it out on that property. I would have a much better food storage.

Beautiful location but not one thing about the building(s) appeals to me. So depressing.
