What are the options? Not a whole household, but some furniture and household items.

In my world/lifestyle it would be a U-Haul truck or trailer.

Yeah, just wondered if there was something I had not thought off.

We used U-Pack, when we shipped things home to TX after my mom passed. We loaded the trailer, they haul it and you unload it or have someone do it for you.

If you get down to making choices about your hauling space, keep in mind that you can often buy furniture in NC far cheaper than other areas of the country. If there is something you are thinking of replacing anyway, you might want to leave it behind and find a replacement when you get here. Upholstered furniture is still made here far more than case goods.

Pods. They will drop off a Pod. You pack it. They pick it up and transport it where you want it. You/whoever unpack it there.

You can call a moving company. They move small households as well as large.

We are moving from Texas to Colorado. We hired a moving company. We are too old to be trying to move furniture and would probably hurt ourselves trying to do so. I already have back issues.

If you are not in a hurry, call around to see if any of the larger moving companies have any space in an already scheduled move in your area that will fit your time line.
When we moved from Northeast Indiana to the D/FW area of Texas, the van line we used already had some horse jumps on the van from Colorado. I think they dropped them off in Oklahoma before they delivered our shipment.
Another time, we had to ship a refrigerator from Indiana to California. Again, we found space on a moving van going in that general direction. I think it took something like two weeks to get there because there were a bunch of small household shipments in the same moving truck.
