Has anyone purchased prescription eyeglasses at Costco? How did the cost compare to your regular optometrist? I've looked in the past at some of the discount chain stores, but the frames are so cheap. I plan to get both regular glasses and prescription sunglasses.
Any thoughts are much appreciated!

I have gotten many pairs of glasses for me, DH and DS2 at Costco. Always good. They don’t always have the best frame selection, but, I can usually find a pair or two that I like. Very reasonable price, and, if course the awesome Costco service that you can count on. They have adjusted and fixed my frames for me for free many times. No complaints!

my glasses from them have always been good. cheaper than at the optometrist. if i love my frames but my prescription changes or i find new frames elsewhere, i just replace the lenses through replacealense.com. even cheaper than costco and really great prices and turn around time.

My mom and SO get their glasses from Costco. They are happy with them. As someone said, the selection isn’t as big as elsewhere, but the prices and customer service is great.

It’s the only place we’ll go for glasses. They are just as nice as the ones from the optometrist but were about a third of the price. They were even able to replace just the lenses in DD’s old glasses (that we bought from there over a year earlier) for even less than a new pair when she scratched them up but didn’t want to choose new frames.

I've had great luck, except for the one in Woodbridge, VA. I never did get them right for DS or myself and finally gave up when the manager at the eye counter told me that it was normal to have lenses pop out of their glasses frames. Two different frames, both brand new. I had her call the manager, explain what she told me, and asked for my money back. I then went to Walmart and they did a great job. It's been a few years, so hopefully they have someone new in there, but she wasn't the one cutting the lenses, so I'm not sure if was her error or just bad luck on our part.

I purposely signed up for Costco last year mainly for eyeglasses. I took my prescription there and was very pleased with the frames, lenses ( bifocal ) price and service. Since it is not close, I rarely shop there.

I took our teenager there last year for contacts. The exam was fine and they filled his prescription at a competitive rate.
We also got a prescription for glasses, but we bought those through Coastal.com and were very pleased with the results there as well.

I've been very happy with several pairs from Costco. No upselling of special coatings, straightforward pricing.
Got a pair of polarized sunglasses and a pair of progressive bifocals for less than one pair at my optometrist.
They don't take my insurance but provided me the form to get reimbursed directly.

I've bought many pair over the years from Costco--no issues at all. DH had an issue with a pair he ordered and Costco took care of the problem quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Costco. And their prices are about half of what it would cost from an eye doctor. Currently, DH works for a vision company and we get free eyeglasses. But when he retires, I'm going back to Costco.

Wayyy cheaper in Canada. I get my DDs glasses there she could get at least 3 pairs at Costco for the price of one at the local optometrist. Yes not as much selection but worth the savings. I only wish I could get my glasses there but they don't do high index lenses at my store at least.

I was thinking about joining Costco, but I have trifocals and have to get the thin plastic lenses.

I'm almost a -10, so I could order through Costco but the lenses would be one inch or more thick, no thanks. Places like Costco and Walmart only go to 1.67 index and I need 1.74.

Since it is not close, I rarely shop there. You should check out what they have online! They have tons of stuff that ships free, and quite frequently they have online deals with clothes and other things where they give you extra discounts when you buy so many pieces. It’s awesome.

I work for an optometrist office so my input on Costco. If you have a low RX (-3.00 or less) then Costco lens are fine. The higher your RX the quality of the lens will make a big difference. The reason things are cheaper, the lens they use are the lowest quality but again if you have low powers it won’t make that big of a difference. The frames are usually discontinued ones so if you need to replace them you won’t be able to. If you’re someone who tends to break your glasses most private offices have a replacement warranty for the first year and lens replacement (scratches)for 2 years. Bifocals or trifocals really need to be measured by someone who knows what their doing. Plus Costco in the past can’t use all of your vision insurance for some reason. Not sure why that is. And at least in my office we inform you of all the options you can have and discuss what you want your glasses to do as well as make sure the frames fit you correctly.

DH & I tried Costco glasses once, we didn’t care for them. We felt they scratched much easier than the ones we bought at the eye doctor despite having the scratch resistant lenses or whatever.

Costco *is* our regular optometrist. My dd gets her contacts there also. We've never had any problems, except one time for some reason dd's glasses kept slipping down her nose. We went back several times to get them adjusted but for some reason they never could get them right. So they offered her new frames. Can't beat Costco's service.

My 14 year old daughter has gotten two pairs from Costco. She was very happy with them. However, when she needed new glasses this year she did not like any of the ones they had. The service is great but if you are very picky about the style you might have a little trouble finding something from their limited selection.

Several years ago I took my prescription to Costco. As stated above, the frame choices weren't all that great. When I was about to leave because I couldn't find anything I liked, the service person pulled a couple of frame choices. They were actually very good choices and I purchased regular and sun glasses based on the suggested frames. The glasses were fine -- I wore them for years -- and the sun glasses are still my preferred pair.
You can also find fun, very inexpensive frames, at other on-line places -- my last and favorite choice for on line glasses is firmoo.com --
