Someone shared this on NextDoor. The hawk landed on a pick up and stayed awhile. I love that we can see it up close for awhile.

We have one that has taken up residence in a nearby tree. We see it often now, sitting in the tree across the street, on top of the light pole or on our house. He even swooped across the street in front of my car a couple of days ago (scared the shit out of me!)

Beautiful bird! We have a Cooper's hawk that lives nearby. I suspect he's a fairly young one based on some of his actions lately. A couple of months ago I was able to get video when he was just a few feet from me. About 2 weeks ago I looked out my office window and saw him sitting on the roof peak - right beside a squirrel! DH didn't believe me until I showed him the photo I took. The squirrel moved just as I grabbed my phone, but you can see how close they were. The hawk eventually flew off, and the squirrel lived to see another day. (Quality isn't the best as it was taken through a window screen.)

They might go for squirrels if preferred prey is scarce, but squirrels are pretty big (and fierce) for a Cooper’s to handle.

I am SO not good at adding pics here, so here's my buddy, Calurus. He is a spokesbird for Hawkwatch International imgur.com/a/tSR7g2zMy sister-in-law is the executive director of HawkWatch International, so raptors are a big part of our lives. Especially Owls, Hawks and Eagles. They are AMAZING birds.

This thread must have given off good hawk vibes — we had a Sharp-shinned Hawk in our front yard today. Sharpies aren’t usually in neighborhoods - that’s more of a Cooper’s thing - and we’ve never seen one in our neighborhood before. It was a nice treat.

We have a Red Tailed Hawk and a Cooper's Hawk in our neighborhood. I tease my Sister-in-law that she needs to come and get her Hawks because they keep bothering the birds who try to eat at our feeders. You might enjoy this video of the birds that live at their facility --->> hawkwatch.org/learn/hwi-birds ETA - I LOVE Hawks and I know they have to eat too.

Sooo cool! We have some that hunt around the power lines next to the house. My son-in-law video chatted me one day this summer from his worksite. There was one on the fence about 6 feet away from him for several minutes. I was honored he chose me to call.

Beautiful - and I am so envious of the so many different hawks you guys have.
I live next to a paddock, and see a NZ hawk or 2 hunting there - the come quite close to my house, and I never have my phone or camera. The days I have my camera handy, they are on the other side of the paddocks - so after 26 years in this house - I have not gone one photo of a hawk.
I did have to laugh though (inappropiately) KFC is in the background....

My favorite! And today is the 11th day of the Blue Eagle Wavespell in the 13 Moon Calendar and this thread was created 11 hours ago. Today is the day of release.
We don’t have eagles here (California) so when I mention Eagle and hear a hawk outside that’s my sign for the Eagle confirmed ☺️
Thank you for sharing!
