I just finished The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult. I always try to guess the twist in her novels, and I thought I had it on page 107, but I missed it. This one took a long time for me to get past all of the Egyptology, quantum physics and end-of-life info before the story picked up. It was a good Thanksgiving holiday read for me.

I finished Goodnight Beautiful about a week ago and it was good! I read What Lies Between Us - Marrs and didn't really like it. I gave up when I was over half way finished. But I read that on the kindle, and I am having trouble getting used to a kindle.
So I got a Christmas book, One Charming Christmas, and it's good so far.
I got several books from the library, and just can't figure out what to read. I am also having trouble getting into a book right now. That happens to me often!

I finished The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware; really enjoyed it. I had read her Woman in Cabin 10 in the past.

I was listening to The Clockmakers Daughter. It is a really long book (17+ hrs on audible). I listened To the first 2 hours twice and then stopped at about 9.5 hrs. This book was so confusing and I just decided to stop. I felt a little let done to not finish after investing so much time, but others here said it wasn’t worth it to spend another 7+ hours so I stopped.
I was reading Pretty Things and like it but when I stopped at the library I saw a copy of American Dirt (which I have been waiting forever for) that was available for one week only so I started that this weekend. It is really good.

I finished Chop Suey Nation. It was ok. It’s local non fiction. I don’t know if it would appeal to people outside Canada. It’s about small town Canadian Chinese food restaurants.
I’m now reading THE GIRL WITH THE LOUDING VOICE about a teenage girl growing up in poverty in Nigeria. I’m enjoying it a lot.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, even if it was different this year GOODNIGHT BEAUTIFUL ('20) BY AIMEE MALLOY : 4.5 STARS.DESCRIPTION: A handsome psychotherapist, his lonely wife and in his home office ceiling vent ... you would listen too, wouldn't you? REVIEW: Recommendations from TwoPeas enticed me to pick this one up. TwoPea maryland was reading and liking it; gottapeanow 4.5 super twisty & well done. First book by this author for me. I have another book by this author that I haven't read yet, The Perfect Mother which many two peas have rate 3-4. This book, I like the writing which moves the story along. At 38% WHAT !!! Got me !!! Don't assume anything!!! Highly entertaining tale of the unexpected. At 53% WHAT ! Got me again ! How great is a writer who can get me twice in a book and I'm only half way thru. Great story the whole way. I wanted a little more from the ending but still a great read. THE BEST OF FRIENDS ('20) BY LUCINDA BERRY : 4 STARSDESCRIPTION: Best friends Lindsey, Kendra and Dani endure every parent's nightmare when a tragic accident befalls their teenage sons, leaving one dead, another in a coma and a third too traumatized to speak. REVIEW: First book by this author for me was The Perfect Child ('19) and I gave it 4 Stars. Like how the author delved into each family's history and secrets. The three moms never gave up on their kids or their relationship with each other. Friendships can live-on thru traumas. DEADLY CROSS (ALEX CROSS BK 28) ('20) BY JAMES PATTERSON : 2 STARSDESCRIPTION: Kay Willingham led a life as glamorous as it was public. She was a gorgeous Georgetown socialite, philanthropist and the ex-wife of the Vice President. So why was she parked in a Bentley convertible idling behind a DC private school, in the middle of the night with the man who was the head of that school? Who shot them both and why? REVIEW: I always love catching-up with the Cross family. Sorry to say, the rest of the story in this book just did not hold my interest at all. MAKE SURE YOU GET SOME GOOD READS ON YOUR CHRISTMAS LIST BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE !

I read two books this week. Both were exceptional.
First up, The Law of Innocence by Michael Connelly. Micky Haller (the Lincoln Lawyer) is set up for a murder. Haller defends himself. Harry Bosch investigates as well. 5/5 stars.
Next up, Where the Lost Wander by Amy Harmon. An absolutely beautiful (but rough) story of the May family, pioneers who cross the country in the 1800s, and John Lowry, a half Indian, half white man who accompanies their group. Harmon is an amazing writer! 5/5 stars.
I am now reading Daylight, a David Baldacci book, that keeps jumping the shark. People wake up in dark rooms with no explanation of how they got there and a dead body next to them and so forth. SMH. It's extremely far-fetched. I should quit, and I might still do that.

Been slow going for me lately, book-wise. I am usually an avid reader with a book going at all times, but just haven’t been reading much. I know I am spending too much time on FB and the internet, especially with political stuff. I did read a pretty good book by British author Marcia Willett,”The Prodigal Wife” about women who married the wrong man but found love again later in life. Very Rosamunde Pilcher-y, low key, lots of descriptive writing and easy interactions among family and friends. Just what I needed!

The Perfect Mother was okay, not my favorite, but I enjoyed reading it. I bought The Best of Friends for kindle, but I have to figure out what's taking so long to get in on my kindle. I look forward to it! I read The Perfect Child by the same author and enjoyed it too. It was $.99 for kindle!

Did anyone read Merry Christmas, Alex Cross by James Patterson? I haven't read his books, but thought it may be a good Christmas theme book to read.

Happy Reading 📚 When I was a kid, I would always take a couple books with me when we went somewhere nearby. I didn't want to finish one and not have another to read next! And when we went out to dinner (not much at all), I would always read until our food arrived!

I finished Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I loved it, and was surprised to read so many negative comments on one review site. Many people said they could not believe half of the things that this young girl, Kya, had accomplished. Well, that's what reading is to me - the chance to believe in those things that may not actually be possible in real life. I would recommend this book to anyone, and am thinking of buying a copy of it for my granddaughter for Christmas.
I am now reading The Wicked Redhead by Beatriz Williams. I love all of her books and this one is just as enjoyable as all her other ones have been for me.

Two for me this week:
White Ivy by Susie Yang - a young woman’s dark obsession with her privileged classmate and the lengths she’ll go to win his love. I didn't like this one as much as I hoped. The main character isn't very likeable so it was hard to cheer for her. 3 stars
Goodnight Beautiful by Aimee Molloy - add me to the growing list of those who read this book in the past week. I actually listened to it, so for those who have read it, those "wow" moments were just as surprising in the audio version. I enjoyed this one. 4 stars.

Two for me. The first was Sea Wife by Amity Gaige. It was beautiful written and I thought going into it I'd enjoy it, but it was not at all what I expected. Not sure it's the book's fault, but 3.5 stars. Then for fun I read Holidaze-a cute, steamy, predictable holiday book by Christina Lauren. It's a bit of a twist on Groundhog's Day which I didn't realize until I started reading. Good, but not the best by this author(s). Rhondito I'm starting White Ivy next. I'm not even sure if I was excited to read it before your review, seems like the unlikeable character is a turn off in many reviews. Going to give a go, but have already decided this may be a DNF.

I do like to check with both libraries first, and if they don't have a book, I get it on kindle. Both of my libraries are closed again (the good one never opened for browsing, just curbside pickup).

I am now reading The Wicked Redhead by Beatriz Williams. I love all of her books and this one is just as enjoyable as all her other ones have been for me. I cannot help but want to read a book that I feel could have been written about my fantasy life! I just read Florence Adler Swims Forever by Rachel Beanland. When I finished I wanted to love it more than I did. Even though it is probably a 2.5 star read for me, the author is good and I would absolutely pick up another book of hers. Without going into spoilers, I can say the book was very interesting. I wanted to know more. But the problem was little was resolved and one of the big things that was resolved brought such a huge problem with it and that problem wasn't even addressed. Basically, the book was a few months out of some peoples' lives and I think there were 7 points of view (I liked that). Of course in most people's lives, nothing can get resolved in a few months and that was the case here. It was just a story of what their lives were like for a few months. I found it frustrating. I did a search but didn't see that anyone read this book here. Did anyone?

I'm listening to My Life in France by Julia Child. Just started but so far I'm really enjoying it. A bit idealized but such a lovely escape to another time and place. If you haven't read it and are a foodie or a francophile (is that the word?) I would highly recommend it.

Last night I finished Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano. *Twelve-year old Edward is the sole survivor of a plane crash, which took the lives of 191 people, including Edward’s parents and older brother. Now living with his aunt and uncle, Edward is faced with the daunting task of recovering physically, mentally and emotionally.* For the first 200 or so pages of the book I liked it but wasn't very engaged as I kept wondering where the book was going. The rest of the book made me enjoy it so much more. As one reader wrote *A sad, uncomfortable, and heartrending journey- but ultimately a story of hope and inspiration!* That's exactly how I felt. 4.5/5 stars. I was so happy at the end to find out that 10 years in the future Edward and Shay had a baby! Now I have to decide what to read next. I'll let you know in next week's thread!

I read Memorial: A Novel that had points of view from the two main characters, a couple who were on the brink of a breakup. The characters were not very likeable. Still, it was a page turner and it had an ending that I wished went on a little longer. I will give it 3 1/2 stars.
