Does anyone own either vehicle and if so, what do you like/not like about them? We need to get a new vehicle (UGH) and will be getting rid of our Honda Odyssey, but we still need seating for 7 or 8 for family.
Anything you can tell me is great--we need to make a decision and I just cannot decide!!
TIA!

We are planning on getting an ascent, upgrade from a honda odyssey, too. DH only purchasses Subaru for his vehicles, wrx and outbacks. Great safety ratings for subaru. Let us know what you decide.

I liked the Ascent when I test drove one when I bought my current car/SUV. It still felt a little small to me, and I ended up with a Chevy Traverse with 2nd row captain’s chairs that I have really been enjoying. I love Subaru’s - I had an Outback when I lived in Colorado.
I would never buy a KIA - so can’t help you there.

Our family has just bought our 3rd Kia. We've had a Sportage for 2 years which we love and just bought a Cerato and my daughter a Seltos. Not sure if they are the same names in the US as I'm in Australia. Kia has really upped their game in the past 5 years, they have a 7 year warranty here and the Cerato was one of the most popular cars in Aus last year. My husband used to work in fleet management (and bought/sold over 500 cars in his last job) so does amazingly detailed spreadsheets and checks everything. He is super impressed with Kia and they a far cry from Kia 10-20 years ago.

My friend has an Ascent. Her entire family only drives Subaru's. They love them. Her Ascent is beautiful and drives really nicely. We have had 5 adults in there comfortably. 7-8 seems a stretch unless you are counting on a couple of small children. I've had a Honda Odyssey and a Toyota Highlander. To me the Ascent seemed closer in size to the Highlander than the Odyssey.

Why is that? It's interesting because right now, you can barely get a Telluride at MSRP, most dealerships are doing $$$ over sticker price. We'd order it so we'd be able to pay sticker price. They're in really high demand.

They're in really high demand. Because they are built out of tin foil. They are built cheaply and will crumple upon impact. You get what you pay for. Tin foil is cheap. Only GM products for me.

Subaru have an excellent safety rating, but that being said my cousin was looking at the Subaru Ascent but ended up getting whatever the VW version is. She liked the Ascent a lot, but felt the VW was much roomier.

I'm really not arguing with you I promise. I looked it up, and apparently the Telluride has a very high safety rating? I know how awesome the Subarus are on safety, but had only read that the Kia Telluride has great safety ratings. Telluride at the Insurance Institute for Highway SafetyThis one is from the National Highway Traffic Association

I have owned both a Kia and a Subaru and while I loved my Kia while I had it, my Subaru is an absolute dream.

My sister has an Ascent and loves it but the third row seat has very little leg room. If you will have a regular need for the third row, I would look at something else.

This is absolutely not true, at least for the ones we have in Aus. They have very high safety ratings and are as solid as any other car we've had.
