I like the idea of using Lindt truffles and then package them as chocolate bombs. If they are smaller than the ‘real’ chocolate bombs package them up with a smaller sized mug. Hmmmmm....sounds like a plan. This sounds much more like my speed!

My chocolate and molds arrive this week. My molds may be too small to stuff with items. I still need to pick up some items to put inside and sprinkles or something to cover the seams. My son wanted me to make some. I may gift a few if they turn out.

my molds were supposed to arrive last week. still no sign of them. other than amazon, where is everyone finding the molds? I have bought 2 sets of molds. The first one I bought off of ebay (new in packaging) because I couldn't find any in stock. About a week later Amazon had some that showed it shipping in about a week or two. Mine were supposed to be delivered last week too but no sign of them either. Last scan was leaving Chino, CA on 11/21. I think her next batch she is going to try Ghiradeli chocolate chips. We originally tried using chips rather than the candy melts because I thought the taste would be better. We couldn't get our chocolate to melt correctly that night so we gave up and went with the chocolate melts instead. Same here. We must have ordered from the same place.☺️ I have everything else I need, just waiting on the molds.

I have not, but plan to try over Christmas break. I have an order to purchase 4 of them at $5 each. Is that the going rate? Yes, that seems to be going rate on the HCB FB pages I am on. I am just making a handful for my kids and their friends.

I joined the All Things Hot Cocoa Bombs! on FB last year and it's been a wealth of information. The group was SO quiet until September then BOOM! so much activity. That group is amazing! It is quite a journey for some of those folks, and it almost gives me anxiety reading some of their posts! One lady has an order for 400 'Bombs" due in a day, and she can make 6 at a time? I am like "who does this!" I know for most it is a chance to make some money in a time where things are really tight, but wow. There are a few biting off way more than they can chew. Several are just blowing off the 'cottage food laws' for their state - trying to weight the cost of the fine vs. just going ahead and selling. Man, I hope they all have some good insurance -because someone at some point is going to blame that Hot Chocolate Bomb on getting them sick. (Even though I highly doubt any would) but I have seen them putting some weird stuff in them! LOL It's fascinating to see how creative some folks are!

OMG...That post about the 400 bombs gave me SUCH anxiety!! Yeah, there have been a lot of posts in the Bomb group as well as the cookie groups about people not ‘following’ the rules regarding cottage food laws. A couple of posts got really heated over the weekend about it. The Bomb group also blew up over the Carl the Snowman bomb. Just Wow. I’m with you, no way I’d be selling to the public w/out insurance. Not worth the risk. But to each their own.

I just bought them on Etsy. I had no desire to try to make them myself.

I have a question--I was looking at the chocolate melter that Laurie posted about, and saw that there is a special bag and decorating tool for chocolate melts. I was planning to use a plastic bottle with a pointed tip to squiggle chocolate on top of the bombs. But now I am second guessing that. How are people doing that step?

You can do it with a heavier weight plastic piping bag with the tip snipped off or even a freezer ziplock with a tiny corner cut off. Definitely use something disposable. A while ago I picked up a chocolate decorating set that came with a coupler and some special chocolate piping tips but I haven’t tried them yet. Here’s a link on JoAnn.com but Amazon has it too. I would not use a plastic bottle because cleaning them out is a huge PITA.

Some of the posts on the HCB facebook page are crazy. The amount people charge, asking to use someone else's pics, using Michael Kors or other logos and thinking that is ok, etc. I am also amazed at how creative people are.

First time making these. I made about a dozen of them to go with the hot cocoa travel mugs we got from Sam’s Club, for my daughter’s teen friends. Not something I would make 500 of!😂

Unless that woman is Neiman Marcus, she won’t have a leg to stand on and she can expect one of those lawyer letters from Neiman Marcus! 🤪 Found that pic through this People mag article. They show a video how to make them.😉 www.google.com/amp/s/people.com/food/hot-chocolate-bombs-are-taking-over-the-internet-heres-how-to-make-one-yourself/%3famp=true

I was planning to use a plastic bottle with a pointed tip to squiggle chocolate on top of the bombs. The plastic bag works so much easier. I buy disposable pastry bags on a big roll. You just heat the melts in a bag and snip a small tip off. Then I let gravity help do the drizzle. I try to avoid putting very much pressure on the bag. Have a big area covered with parchment, so you can sling that chocolate. The drizzle looks better if you have more movement putting it down. Bottles just put out too much and they are a PITA to clean. You can even just use a spoon. Scoop up some chocolate. Let the initial amount drop off not on the bombs, because it usually comes off as a big blob, but what remains is a finer line. Bag is easiest. Heavy freezer quart bags work good too.

She is the person selling them to Neiman Marcus. She has been selling those for at least 3 years. I guess they are sold through Neiman Marcus and her own website. Yeah, I think she has every right to be pissed off if people try to use her trade marked name of Carl the Cocoa Bomb Snowman(or whatever his name is😉)on their cocoa bombs. There are tons of other names people could call theirs! 😉 I wouldn’t wanna buy food off the Internet. I’m no germaphobe, but I’ve seen some nasty kitchens and horrible food handling practices! 😮 I’m just making my germ filled Cocoa bombs for friends!🤣

My local French bakery is experimenting with making these and having a bit of trouble getting them just right. That is all I know about them,

We made the bombs today. They turned out ok but there is a little bit of a learning curve that I haven't quite figured out yet. They look cute in the box and taste yummy.

I’m imagining your youngest wanting to “help” and the older kids wanting to eat it all. That’s how it would have gone in my house!

My grandson and I did our first one! (No death star yet...the mold is designed to make a solid ice cube, so it's hard to do just a shell...still working on it!) He chose the sprinkles for the top.

I have officially put together the last of all the shells I made - I lost count, but I'm pretty close to about 1100 bombs total.
I need a nap!
