One of our living room lamps is hooked up to a smart plug, DH insisted... I have no problem moving my arm to turn on the lamp. Asking Alexa to turn the lamp on wasn't working Sunday so I unplugged it, plugged the lamp into the wall and turned the light on. There isn't a ceiling light in the room and it's December, I need to be able to see...
DH insisted that plug needs to have a smart plug because it will turn itself off at night (aka the kids might forget and leave it on) and plugged it back in. This morning the lamp won't turn on again. So DH has been arguing with Alexa all day, and my lamp is still not working. At one point he said "Alexa what's your status?" and her answer was "I'm single, thanks for asking."
The other day I told Alexa she was fired, and she told me I should call the fire department.
I think our Alexa is going senile... what about yours?

Mine has kind of lost her mind lately too actually. I will sit in the living room and she won't hear me but the one in the bedroom in the back of the house will. She acts like she can't understand me at all and DH ends up having to repeat everything I say. He says it's my accent, but that is impossible because I don't have one and she used to listen to me. I swear the boys set her to aggravate me when moved out.

She acts like I am speaking an unknown foreign language on basic commands.

I couldn’t find my phone the other day so I asked Echo to call it. She asked “Should I call from Skellinton or Husband.” I told her husband. She said, “I can’t call from Husband. Should I call from Skellinton?” I told her yes. She then told me she couldn’t call from Skellinton and asked if she should call from Husband. I told her yes and we completed this routine one more time before I told her she was dead to me.

My Alexa can find every smart plug and WeMo light switch. Except one, my bedroom overhead light. Which is the one we use the most. I swear she is trying to make me bonkers.

Mine’s behaving badly, too, and the new Smart Things app is absolutely useless so I don’t know if it’s actually her fault.

Do you need to have the switch turned on/activated? What does that mysterious switch that never turns anything on actually do?, but when something is plugged in, then in your head you say... Wow, that's what that switch was for!....lol

Mine sang me the abc song completely unprompted. I was watching an action movie so it couldn’t have been that. My daughters name is way to close to Alexa so we reset for Echo, yet at times she reverts to Alexa.

I got mad at Alexa yesterday and called her a bitch. She had the audacity to ask me if I could prove it! 🤣🤣

We have a Google hub not an Alexa, and it also will only recognise DHs voice not mine. So frustrating!

Mines become overly polite like a kid angling for a Nintendo Switch.
I asked her to play Holiday Classics and she answered, Anything for you.

Omg so happy I’m not the only Pea to have Alexa problems! I listen to the same radio station every day through Alexa and sometimes she tells me she will play the last radio station I listened to and it’s one I’ve never ever heard of let alone listened to!! I’m sure she just messes with me.

You can change the name she answers to in the app. I know you can change it to Echo and Computer, not sure what else. I’ve done that because I have two Dots close to each other and they were both answering me. To the OP, it sounds more like the issue could be with the plug. Or have you tried to turn it on or off using the app instead of asking Alexa to do it?

My Google Hub doesn’t listen to me and I think it is my voice too. It listens to DH and DS just fine.

I don’t have Alexa but my smart plugs all had to be reloaded last week for no reason. 🤷♀️ After deleting and reloading the app they all work fine again.

i have the same trouble with my arm so now the nightstand lights are on smart plugs. a few weeks ago, the Alexa app was on the fritz. DH's smart plug wasn't responding to Alexa. we must have set it up a dozen times but his light still wouldn't go on during the routine we set up. our only fix for it was to set the routine for DH's lamp on his amazon account and not mine. now it works perfectly but it's just so weird that alexa can't handle the same routine on one account. oh, and she's been a little wonky with information requests lately. amazon needs to look into that.
