In our area, they have a plexi-glass shield that Santa sits behind and the kids sit on a bench in front of it.

This type of reasoning from the article "we still stand by the decision … to move forward with these holiday traditions, and to bring some sense of normalcy to these trying times.” drives me completely crazy. People have given up all kinds of stuff WAY more important than sitting on Santa's lap during this pandemic. Like funerals for their loved ones for example.
Seems to me like there are ways to do a Santa meet and greet without the traditional lap photo-op. Curious to know if Santa and kids were at least masked.

I couldn't read the article posted because of my ad blocker but I read two others. Neither article mentioned whether Santa wore a mask. What they did say was some excuse about how the person speaking had know Santa and Mrs. Claus their entire lives and how they wouldn't have willingly exposed anyone had they known. While I'm sure that's true, does it really matter now? What matters more in my mind is were they wearing masks?
The article I read also said that on that very day Georgia had their highest number of cases ever.

I'm so tired of playing by the rules, staying home, by myself may I add, being cautious, bored out of my gourd, and these fools keep doing crap like this only making things worse. The ones that complain the loudest about lockdowns are the ones that are keeping lockdowns in place.
Bah humbug. 🎅

Why even take the chance? If my kids were still little, I would be skipping it this year. But that's just me, I am scared of covid and take covid really seriously.

My husband has been strictly following the rules, very cautious because he works with hospice patients, and today he tested positive.

Santa visited all of the elementary schools in my town today.
Seems unnecessary to me every year, but this year especially.

There is a point where I have stopped feeling sympathy for certain people. If people couldn’t skip the Santa photo this year then they can deal with the consequences. Unfortunately they affect innocent people as well.

I get that people want a sense of normalcy after such a trying year, but it is so easy to set up a FaceTime type call to Santa. Instead of putting our mall Santa’s at risk this year, plus all of the kids, parents and grandparents who insist on visiting.

But didn't Dr. Fauci say that Santa can not have Covid? This must be Santa's helpers... UGH... stupidity...

Not that it makes any difference (it's still a really dumb thing to do!), but Santa and Mrs. Clause were about 5 hours southeast of Atlanta.

He arrives by helicopter. The whole school goes out to the field to watch the helicopter land, then Santa gets out and passes out candy. Great use of my tax payer money.

Instead of putting our mall Santa’s at risk this year, plus all of the kids, parents and grandparents who insist on visiting. I am choosing to acknowledge that this year is anything but normal and adjusting our traditions to fit. So instead of visiting Santa (I’m more worried about standing in line than Santa behind a plexiglass barrier), we are going to use a Santa doll that I have and take pictures with that. At home. Luckily my kids are a bit older (12 and 9–I’m not even 100% sure they still believe) so this is more to keep the Santa picture tradition going than anything else. If I didn’t have the Santa doll, I’d just take a pic in front of the tree with sad faces and a caption explaining why. We’ve been blessed to not get sick even though we are in F2F school at two different schools (my children attend one and I work at another) and we’re not doing anything we don’t have to. For the record, we are very diligent about the hand washing and mask wearing. I just don’t understand why people put up such a fuss about a little thing like wearing a mask! (Yes, I’ve heard all the reasons why people say they can’t/won’t wear masks. I still don’t get why they think it’s such a big deal).

(bold mine) Since you’re Deaf, masks on other people are probably a total pain for you - whether they’re speaking or signing. It’s a legitimate hindrance to communication. But all these other people, as you say, put up a fuss for all manner of picky reasons. So ironic. Stay well.

My appointment was 10 am on Thanksgiving, first pics of the day. We all wore masks, temp checks, sat for the picture (one masked, one not) and grabbed a few hoodies and were out of there by 10:15. I wasn’t going to do them because I’ve been very cautious and we’ve done a good job of not getting sick, however, I was comfortable with the way Bass Pro had it set up and that I was able to get first pictures of the day.

Great use of my tax payer money. Wow! So the helicopter flies from elementary to elementary? Do you know if this is for your entire district? Maybe the PTA raises funds so it’s not actually the tax payers/school district paying for it? That must be really expensive.

I just know that it’s been done every year since we’ve lived here (15 years) and probably a lot longer.

I am not surprised to hear that the article you read said that they didn't wear masks. This is what I was expecting to hear once I heard it was 1) in Georgia and 2) the excuse the person who knew the couple gave to the reporter in the article I read-the part about knowing the couple their whole lives and how they wouldn't knowingly expose anyone. BTW, I have nothing against Georgia itself. My father was born and raised in Georgia. But it does seem to me that it is mostly in the southern States that we see more of the anti maskers. Wherever the anti maskers are I don't mind if they expose themselves-it's the innocent people around them (especially the children who have no say) and the health care workers who then have to deal with them that my concern goes to.
