"Looking for a stylist who works out of her home, I'm not going into a salon right now. Must listen and do what I want done with my hair not what she wants. I need an appointment before Christmas. I know I waited too long! Can't cost an arm and a leg."
My translation - I want a sparkly unicorn tomorrow for CHEAP!

Mostly for contractors/plumbers. You get what you pay for.

It reminds me of couples on House Hunters looking for the perfect grand house ( new construction 3,000 sq. ft., 5 bedrooms, hardwood floors throughout houses, granite, finished basement) and only paying $100,000 for it!
We just got a post on our NextDoor message board praising a local sports grille for opening up and defying our governors orders. They have so many "likes", because we are in a big time Trump county.

Mostly for contractors/plumbers. You get what you pay for. I see mostly those types of 'demands' regarding services like home repair, yard work, electrical, plumbing, and the like. But I also see it for special occasion cakes -- elaborate, fancy cakes that the poster needs tomorrow and then adds they "can't afford to pay much." Yeah, right.

It is common around here for people to post photos of giant trees they need cut down, with the payment being all the free wood you get to chop up and haul home. Translation: we got a quote from an actual tree service and holy shit! Maybe some moron needs firewood.
I love it when the comment sections on these light up.

I saw a post from a guy who had a broken down appliance and was asking quite a bit for it - I can't recall what it was. A string of people laughingly responded he should pay the fee at the dump to get rid of his junk. There was not one serious taker but this guy persisted. It really was pretty funny reading the comments.

Yep, see these posts ALL THE TIME on our town’s FB page. And it’s always “I need you to drop everything for me but I want it cheap”. I always roll my eyes.

I see those posts too and usually block that person. If you’re that needy and cheap, I don’t want to interact with you.

I read somewhere that someone had a business (printing, I think) and their motto was "Fast, cheap, and accurate! Choose any two."

"Does anybody in the West Ridge neighborhood have a pickup truck my nephew could borrow for a few hours? Actually, anyone in the entire Next Door area? It might be 3 or it might be as much as 5 hours. TIA"

In our area, I see lots of asks for cheap yard clean up. No one gets too nasty about it. They generally offer the name of a company or father and son duo they have used.

Oh yes and the irony is that my next door neighbor has been operating her salon out of her home (which is illegal) this whole time.

That is actually how my parents got rid of a huge maple tree that fell. Someone driving by saw it and asked if they cut it up could they have the wood. Granted it is in more of a rural area where people have wood heaters or sell firewood to people.

I've only seen one lately. A woman was offering $30 for someone to remove a 5 ft by 20 ft patch of lawn. She called it "easy Money". We paid over $500 to have our 20 x 25 lawn ripped out.

I'm not on any community Facebook pages but I am on Nextdoor. I've not seen too many posts asking for cheap stuff fast. I can only see my neighborhood and surrounding ones.
There was a woman on Nextdoor who said she recently moved to the area and needed everything. I mean everything (bed and sheets to go with it, dresser, sofa, tv, tv stand, clothes, shoes, food, dishes, silverware......). Everything had to be free and delivered to her second floor apartment. The community rallied and quickly set her up with everything she needed. Two weeks later posted that she was moving and couldn't take anything with her. She was just going to leave everything behind. It was really strange.

Usually that’s “I have a three story dead tree still standing with a million branches that needs cut down. I got a quote for $500. If anyone wants to cut it down themselves they can have the wood.”

They are trying to spin it like they are offering a great deal by letting someone take the wood for FREE! Around here, a tree service charges extra to haul the wood away, because it's more work. So getting someone to take your tree down AND haul away the wood all for free is hilarious.

I have a reversed scenario story.
I'm rarely on Next Door, but I pop in once in awhile if I have something to give away or want to check on an event. I happened to check in the day after Thanksgiving to such a sad post. Several people in the area truly take the neighborly intent to heart and use the board like a back fence or a form of emotional support, as if we all actually know each other. This is certainly understandable, especially this year.
One disabled man who lives alone had previously wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving and mentioned something about being alone for the holiday. Someone quickly responded that they would happily bring him a complete Thanksgiving meal and would DM him to make arrangements. Good feelings all around.
The day after Thanksgiving, he posted that after setting a time and getting his address, the person no-showed and deleted all of their messages! It broke my heart. He said he hadn't asked anyone to bring him anything--why would they get his hopes up like that?
He explained that he was not now asking for anything and was not angry, but was reminding people to consider their intentions before making offers they can't fulfill. Ugh. Of course, many good neighbors had replied and were going to take him some leftovers immediately. I hope he received some good food and fellowship.

I've seen some of those, but I see a lot of people helping people. The other day someone posted about food stamps not arriving or whatever and she needed food. She had a lot of offers and picked up food from several and then when someone asked if she had enough she said she only had a little. I guess she loaded up and the comment was rather insulting. Post is gone...
Plenty of local drama. I think the pets benefit the most from all the help!

When someone asks for cheap yard work, the teen girls and boys usually are the ones who respond. We have had better luck with the neighbor girl doing our mowing and yardwork (when we were on vacation for a month) than a landscaper that charged us a lot more.

I always see people wanting really, really cheap childcare, and they need it tonight or at best, tomorrow. I can't imagine meeting someone today, online, and letting them watch my child. I know some are in tight spots because of work, so I try not to judge too harshly. I'm just grateful to have never needed to depend on strangers I met in a FB group for childcare.

I remember being shocked the first time I went on NextDoor and someone new to the area wanted to go to the beach that weekend but didn't have any of the usual stuff for a beach day. They were asking to borrow boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella, pop-up, towels, coolers, etc., from strangers. I was even more shocked at how many people offered up unused stuff from their garage and said keep it.
