It's been over four weeks since DH and I tested positive for covid and I lost my sense of taste and smell.
This is the first year in the last 15 years that I didn't sneeze and sniffle through Christmas Eve Mass because of all the incense. Didn't even need to use my red trimmed linen hankie.
The years I sang in the choir next to the altar were particularly tough.
Still won't be able to taste the fantastic Christmas dinner we are fixin to have, but I have to celebrate the small victories.

Am I really the first one brave enough to ask "what the heck are you doing out at a Mass"?

I'm glad you had no problem, but I would not be in any church on Christmas Eve. Particularly tonight or Easter, the two services that draw everyone and their brother.

Am I really the first one brave enough to ask "what the heck are you doing out at a Mass"? I know. I know. It really wasn't by choice DH and I have already had it, but my 93 year old father was having no part of skipping Christmas Mass. I think at this point he doesn't care if he gets sick, he misses my mom that much. He has never missed Mass on Christmas, and before March he could probably count on his two hands the number of times he has missed Mass in his entire life. We sat toward the the front where people were socially distanced and we have a 30 foot ceiling in our church. But I did insist that we leave after we took Communion so we didn't have all those people behind us passing us. There were still people arriving for Communuon as we were leaving. I am most annoyed that our pastor didn't have anyone ushering and enforcing the Bishop's directives to be able to have Mass. I am probably going to email the diocese and complain.

That is good! Incense messes me up for days. Luckily, our church used it very sparingly.
As for crowded Masses, it shouldn't be any different than any other day in the pandemic. Our church has a sign up and when it's full, it's full. And there's no singing. Here in Belgium, it's at 25% capacity and we moved to a large multipurpose room vs the small chapel.
I still am not attending Mass (and it will be the first time in my life I haven't been to church on Christmas--or Easter. For me, it's all the unmasked kids. I watch Mass online and pray, both from home.

We need our pastors to care for us, now more than ever. They need to follow the rules.

My grandmother would have been the same. She was a devout Catholic and never missed mass. Thank God for the neighbors that started driving her as she got older, because she would have walked in -20 degree weather.
