My FIL was admitted to the hospital after going to the cardiologist who told him to go to the ER now. His O2 says were in the 70’s he was admitted and got a room after almost 24 hours. He was on a bi-pap and they wanted to do a Ct scan but they couldn’t because as soon as he came off the machine his O2 dropped. Yesterday he was transferred to the ICU and intubated. They were hoping to do the tests. He was incredibly anemic and has had three transfusions since Monday, xrays, ekg. They also did a bone biopsy and were thinking he needed a lung biopsy to. He was having trouble breathing with just the bi-pap also that’s why they intubated.
So this morning they tell my husband he has antibodies for Covid. The man didn’t leave his house and had stuff delivered and wouldn’t go to a grocery store. No idea where he got it. He is a germaphobe. He was with his girlfriend this last Saturday when he had trouble breathing so at some point he has been with her but no idea how often and when . No idea where he caught it as she doesn’t have a clue. Thinking some one was asymptomatic as he don’t go near anyone with even a sniffle in a normal year. He also has a pre-leukemia which is treatable which we just found out today.
Anyways we would appreciate any prayers and good thoughts. He is perfectly healthy and no preexisting conditions other than he is over 70 before this.
We are obviously out of it at this point.
UPDATE 12/30 He was starting to do better Monday and they thought they could start weaning him off the ventilator but yesterday things started going the other way. He is back on the vent and o2 is back up. They are thinking he may be developing stiff lung. Of all the people we know he was the most cautious. Until this he was healthy and was traveling with his girlfriend (pre-Covid) he easily should have been doing so for another 10 years. My husband and I are in shock. Monday we were thinking he was going to recover but be in rehab for a while. Still hoping for a miracle but it’s not looking good.
