I don't know if I'll have any and if I do, it's way down the road, but I sort of hope to be called Grannie Annie, which just makes me laugh. My nieces and nephews call me Annie (Auntie Annie), but honestly I really do not care at all.

I'm the poster of the OP... I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm not really sure. And I have to ask C what she thinks and what her Mother is going to be called. And Daddy's mom too. I think like Nana or Meme.
I had Grandmas. My one grandma would sign cards or letters with "Gran & Gramps" so that's sort of what I called them. All the others were just Grandma, even the Greats. My Grandpas were Gramps & Granddad. My Mom is Nonnie or Grandma & my Dad was Pops.

I'm thinking I'll tag into DH's Greek heritage and go with yiayia since he'll probably want to be known as papou. My mom's husband declared himself Papou (he too had Greek heritage) in respect to and in order to not infringe on the Grandpas (even though both were dead), so my mom was Yia Yia. Even though it's been years, I miss them both. Your post gave me a smile, thanks for that!

I had a Grandma and a Baba. My girls have a Grandma and a Nana. We all had all the grandparents living within 15 minutes of us and didn't want to have to call them Grandma Jane and Grandma Susie or Grandma Smith and Grandma Jones (except our Ukrainian last names are way more of a mouthful 😉). When my times comes I would prefer to be grandma, mimi etc versus Grandma first or last name.

I like the idea of being called Gramma.
Although I'd secretly love being called Grandmama, a la Addams Family, by a gothy pre-teen

I only had one grandma growing up because the other one passed away before I was born. The one I had was just Grandma. My mom went by Granny mostly, but some of the grandkids called her Grandma (firstname). My kid has no living grandparents, but she has a few surrogates that she calls Grandma (firstname) and Grandpa (firstname). I guess I really don’t care what name any future grandchild might call me as long as it’s said with love. I love granny! My mom is Granty to my nephew and Great Gram as well. The little kids I get to watch have Poppas and Gramma’s. Some gramma’s are gramma first name, one is cookie gramma, one is “regular gramma”. Poppas are Poppa with big truck, Poppa and Raleigh (his dogs name) and Popper. I agree with you, whatever is said with love is fine by me! My niece has a Pom Pom, which I think is hilarious. No one has any idea why she started calling her one Grandma that, but it is awesome so everyone refers to her by that. My nephew (different family) has a Popsie. I love that too.

I had a nana (only 1 grandmother) and hated it. Perhaps I associated the name with her - so I think of nana as cold and not loving.
My mom is Bubbie and my MIL is bubba. I will most likely be one of those.

You may get the choice with respect to a puppy calling you want you desire but in the case of grandchildren they may select your name for you.
With my first born grandson I thought I would be called Grammy...his other grandma was Nana and my mom was Nana so I wanted to be different. Seven years later, grandson #2 comes along and in the process of trying to teach him to say Grammy, it came out Mimi and that was it....three more grandchildren (total of 5 now from my daughter) the last 4 all call me Mimi.....to this day the oldest, now 15 still calls me Grammy.
In retrospect I wish I had chosen GG(Gigi) as in Great Grandmother...not that I am technically their great grandmother but because I am A Great Grandmother...LOL

I had two Meemaws and one Pawpaw (the other Pawpaw died before I was born and so I was named after him). I have two competing desires, and that is for DS to experience life before settling down and having children...and my greatest desire which is to have grandchildren, particularly while I’m still young enough to enjoy them. I don’t know what I want to be called—I never thought about it—but will be ecstatic being called pretty much anything.

I have my first grandchild and my family is referring to me as his Gabby. My mama is MeMe to my children... and virtually everyone else.
Cutesy grandma names are an ingrained southern tradition. I have friends who are T-ma, Sassy, Darling, My Mama,Honey, and Lovie.
The funniest story is one of my cousin’s children who called his Brown Grandma and Black Grandma because of their hair colors.
Edited to add: My grand baby’s other grandma goes by Glammie. She owns a spa so it’s quite appropriate!

Well DD is 14 and I won't be a grandmother anytime soon. I'm not a fan of "nana." We call my mom "grammy." DD has a penchant for nicknames and has been calling me "Julzie" - and I suspect if that holds 10-15 years down the road, that is what her kids would call me.

My kids call me Marmee lately. I would love to continue with that. Or Nana. I’ve always wished I had a Nana. The Nanas I’ve met or read about always seemed to be the very picture of grandmotherly kindness. Which I always coveted as it was not my reality, nor sadly my childrens’.

I was mildly shocked the first time she casually mentioned “White Grandma” was picking her up that day. When a Black Grandma showed up I figured she was just mistaken which Grandma was coming for her. A few days later she mentioned Green Grandma. Apparently she named her grandmother’s based on what color house they had!

I had decided that I would be Grammy, but oldest grandson couldn’t say that as a toddler, so he called me GamGam, and I have loved it❤️. Our surname begins with B, so DH is Daddy B.

I’m Oma - it is the German affectionate term for a grandmother. I am not German, but we have lived here for a while now and I just liked how it sounds. I lobbied for Grandma Jo to be Oma, but my German father nixed it.

I won't be having grandkids, but I'm already an Aunt Mimi. My nieces and nephews and all of their friends call me Auntie Lim. No one else is called Auntie, they are just Aunt first name. My oldest niece couldn't wrap her tongue around my first name and suddenly I was Auntie Lim. The small town in IN where my sisters live, there are loads of kids in their 20s that know me as Auntie Lim. It really doesn't have much to do with my name. I always wondered if people expected me to be missing and appendage when they hear my moniker.

My mil was “Nana”, my mom was “Granny”, my step-mom goes by her first name.
I have no idea what my grandchildren will call me - whatever my kids want to do is fine with me.
With my dad, we called him “Grandpa” and my oldest daughter shortened it to “Pa” when she first started talking and that stuck.

My mom is Grandma to her grandkids and greatgrand. MIL is Nana. Since I hope they will still be around when I am a grandma, I want something that is different from them. My oldest has a cat and always refers to me as Mimi when talking to the cat so I will remain Mimi.
Three of my friends, living in different parts of the country are going by Lolly and Pop which I think is adorable. But Dh rolled his eyes at me when I said I thought it was cute.

Grandma. I love the grandkids calling me Grandma. DDIL gave me an etched drink glass with Grandma on it--it makes me ridiculously happy when I use it.

My mother goes by Imama, she was the one who was only going to be Grandmama, like her mom and MIL none of that cutesy stuff. When my DD was a toddler, my sister would say, this is My mama, not your mama, teasing DD. When DD came out with Imama it stuck. This was in the late 70's/
One of my SIL's dad had a fit and wanted to be called Ipoppy as he is very techy and it sounds like IPOD,IPHONE, etc. His grandchildren were already calling him Poppy and he couldn't get it to stick.
The grandchildren call us Pop and Mama Jane. I tried Grammie but DDs would not hear of it and J-mama sounded weird.

No kids. I'm an Auntie.
But, I've always liked "Grams" as one of the choices as a Grandmother name.
My favorite is the name "Nana", because that was my Nana's name. She was my everything.

I don't have any grandchildren yet but I do have a practice grandchild. He is the son of my daughter's boyfriend. We spend a good amount of time together now and then, so I decided he was my practice grandchild and told him he could help me learn how to do the grandparent thing. We were all talking about what he should call me and he said "I'll just call you Grandma" but I was very worried that his actual Grandmas might be offended by that, plus I don't particularly want to be called Grandma, so I decided on the simplest possible name: G. My name is weird and people freak out about how to pronounce it and I just wanted the most simple thing. So that's what he calls me. He named my husband "Dayhawk" and that's what he calls him. He's a great kid.
