to give? I am pretty bad at surprising 17 yo DD but I have to keep quiet until Christmas. I already got her tickets/airfare/hotel to go to Vegas to see a show and have a Meet and Greet with Miranda Sings (Youtube comedian). She has really wanted to go to this but she thinks she's only seeing the show in LA. Instead, she's seeing the show and meeting her in Vegas! The tickets for the Meet and Greet are sold out. She texted me again last week that she really wants to do this. She even dressed like her for Halloween (and got compliments on her outfit with people wanting pictures with her). She still talks about when I took her to the taping of a talk show in LA where we got to see Hilary Duff. That was when she was in 1st grade! Hopefully this will be even better. DS gets to go along by default and I can't even tell him about it since he may give it away. Last Christmas was so stressful and just a really hard time for our family so I really want to do something special this year. Now I just have to think of a creative way to give her the tickets besides just putting them in her stocking. She will be so excited! She'll get some other smaller things but this definitely qualifies as her big gift! I'll be going to Vegas too but DH is staying back for work. I'm excited about just seeing the sites with them and having a get-way since we don't do things like this often.
What are you excited about giving this year?

My kids are little so they will still get presents under the tree, but they don't know that we are going on a Disney cruise in mid December. We got a great deal last minute. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. We haven't told them and decided to keep it a secret.

Yep. I bought my granny a small Bose MP3 player. She's got this itty bitty tinny-sounding thing for her I-pod and the sound sucks. A hand-woven pink and mauve scarf for my best friend. I hope she likes it. She moved to DC and gets cold easily, so I hope it pleases her. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...maybe?? Shit.

I got my brother a glass "Das Boot" beer glass. It is a giant beer glass shaped like a boot and if you've ever seen the movie Beerfest you'll know why someone would want to drink beer out of a boot! I'll include a large bottle of his favorite craft beer, too.

I decided back in October that I was going to give everyone on my side of the family stockings full of gifts. My mom always enjoyed giving us our stockings the most. She spent all year choosing items to fill them. I had been looking around for stockings but wasn't able to find any that I liked. The other night I was scrolling through Pinterest and saw a pin on how to make stockings out of thrift store sweaters. It gave me the perfect idea. I'm going to make everyone a stocking out of my mom's sweaters. I'm so excited. To me it will be like a gift from my mom. I miss her so much.

We have had a strict no cell phones until middle school policy in our house. DS is in middle school and he got one just after school started up. My girls are not quite to middle school yet. But over the last several months, we've actually found a need for them to have phones (they're in sports and doing sleepovers where they're away from us) so with a lot of convincing from DH, we're getting them phones for Christmas. They will TOTALLY not expect it at all because they know our rule. But I imagine everything else under the tree will not even compare.

I had given in to gifting DS with an xBox One, and was so excited for his Christmas morning reaction, but DH told him. Ugh.
So nothing will be a surprise. Except his stocking, and I'm not spending a huge bit on that because the game console is large enough.

Gift-giving second thoughts sucks lemons. I hope so too! It's really beautiful and I was tempted to keep it. I'm sure it's FINE.

I love home-made gifts more than anything else. The thought and effort that are put into it are incredible.
I'm getting my college-aged niece a small gift for every day in December (like an advent calendar). Have picked out so many fun things! Can't wait to send it to her!

I am super excited to give ds (8) his Lionel Train!!! For dd (11) it is the unexpected, must wait till birthday, American Girl Spa Chair. Jills Steals had a huge AG sale and I was able to get the spa chair, caddy, and 2 accessories for $20 less than the chair itself. She is going to flip

I am sewing quilts for my niece and nephew. I am so proud of how they are turning out and I think my sister will love them.
I wish I had more of these 'yay!' type gifts to give but... My kids are not super into anything that would thrill them to no end to receive - and DH is the worst to buy for. I'd say he returns 50% of what he gets. It gives me cold sweats just trying to come up with ideas for him!

You gift for your daughter sounds great. What are you going to get your son? We are putting $ towards a new Mac for him. He has most of it, but I'm sure our share will still be a bit with accessories, warranty, tax, etc. He says that's all he wants so he will still get some small items too. He has an old Mac that we bought off Craigslist (he helped pay for that one too), so it's time he gets a new one.

We haven't figured out what to get the kids yet, but I have picked up something for my 16 year old that I think he will really like. He wears graphic geeky t-shirts almost exclusively, and he's starting to develop a rather cynical political position, so I got him this link I think he will love it.

We got our dd14 tickets to see One Direction. We made it into a big deal like we wouldn't be able to get them, so she won't be expecting it at all. I can't wait to see her face!

Great big cat tree for the boys! They will go nuts for it! Or... they will prefer the box in comes in!

DH and I are taking DD (4) to DisneyWorld in December. We've talked to her about going in general "someday" but nothing in absolutes and she has NO clue we're actually going next month! She will totally freak out when it finally sinks in that she's going to go see Elsa, Anna and all of her other favorite princesses in person. If we can work it into our schedule, she will get a princess makeover while she is there too.

Yes! I bought my husband tickets to see Merle Haggard(his favorite singer) and I got really good seats. He has absolutely no idea. I am going to buy a CD and put the tickets in the case.

I'm buying my SO tickets to a concert that we both want to see after watching a doc about him on TV. I'm also buying the book that he just released as well. Trying to decide if I'll get an autographed copy or not (the venue I am picking often has meet and greets so he could get it autographed personally).
I already received one present that made me so excited, which was money towards the airfares we need to go home to visit on Christmas Day.

I'm challenged when it comes to knitting or crocheting, so to me, this sounds like a fabulous gift!! My fourteen year old son will be getting the Ipad mini that he asked for, but I'm still kind of on the fence with that one since I'm not sure that he will use it very much. He has a laptop that he is always using and his Kindle Fire pad never gets used. My husband will be getting the knife that he has always wanted from Sam The Cooking Guy.

Yes, I have a few, though they might not seem exciting, my son will be thrilled.
In particular, he is a huge yugioh fan/player. I bought him a whole case of number hunter cards. It has 24 individual packs inside. He is going to be super surprised and so excited to open them all.
I also bought him a video game I've been telling him he couldn't have because of the M rating. He will be 13 next month, and I talked to my nephew (who is grownup) to see if it would be appropriate for my son, and he said it really was not bad at all and his age would be fine.
This one is going to sound stupid for his age, but he loves grumpy cat, so I got him a stuffed grumpy cat..lol.
This is the first year in a long time he isn't getting a "big" gift. I think the most expensive gift I got him was $40, so I'm trying to make sure he gets stuff he will be excited about and that he won't expect.

DS is 2.5 and loves playing with these racetrack things at play dates. Yesterday he pointed one out in the Toys R Us ad I found one through consignment for $10 and it's brand spanking new, just no box or cars. But I'm going to get the cars on Amazon. He's going to be so excited! He's also getting a bunch of Thomas the Train stuff, mainly this roundabout garage thing he always plays with at our library's train table. I know he will love it, too. I also got a deal on these through our local buy sell page so he's getting lots more pieces than if they were new in the box, for sure. And then I used some credit card point rewards things to get DH a new iPod. His is old and sloooow. I know he's going to be surprised bc he keeps complaining about his and we keep discussing how we really don't want to spend the cash on a new one. Little does he know I figured out how to get it free" with our points.
