Has anyone tried one to improve their sleep? I can fall asleep at 9 pm or a bit later, but I wake up at about midnight and toss for about 3 hours. There was an article in the health section of our paper by Dr Zorba extolling the virtues. Thoughts?

I do love my weighted blanket. It is amazing for soothing anxiety and helping me sleep. Now I still have insomnia, but the comfort of the blanket is always relaxing. I believe mine came from target. I recently purchased on for dd2 from Costco.

I got one for DD who has anxiety. She likes it when she’s awake and having an issue ( or at least she does right now in the winter ) but she does not like sleeping under it, she says it stresses her out when it’s ‘harder’ to move.

Before I got my blanket, I found myself waking up several times a night because I've kicked off the blankets, and then my legs got cold. My sleep immediately improved with the weighted blanket. I don't need it so much in the summer. months, but for winter and fall, it's a godsend.

My weighted blanket was life changing. I bought it for the same reason. I was waking up in the middle of the night and tossing and turning and eventually watching youtube videos for hours. I'd doze off for an hour or so and then have to get up for the day. I felt like a zombie all day. I still wake up, although much less often, and I go back to sleep much faster. I'd say I don't get to the point where I'm fully awake. I say give it a try.

I think I have naturally slept under my own version of a weighted blanket forever, through many layers of blankets, down, duvet, etc. Now that I am used to it, I have a hard time sleeping without the weight when we travel. But I have still had issues with sleep, so for me it isn’t the fix.
This fall I read the book Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker after seeing it on the NYT best sellers list. It was a very good read and helped me identify some things I did that I thought were helpful that weren’t and some factors I hadn’t considered. Some of the other science driven data about sleep made me appreciate the importance of committing to the changes to improve my sleep. Not to derail the topic... but a good sleep related read I wanted to share in case it might be of interest.

Ds has had a couple. One of them was not good because the beads ended up moving and bunching up. I just got him a new one for Christmas that is washable and the beads are in small pockets throughout. He likes it much better

How do you feel under the weighted protective vests you wear when you are getting xrays? If you like that secure feeling, you’ll probably like this. Am laying under mine right now. It helps me so much that if we are going away for more than a night, it comes with us. And boy do I miss it that night without it. I just purchased a larger one for the bed so that this one can go downstairs for the couch. It is so, so comforting. I have serious issues sleeping, I move a LOT in general and have restless legs, especially when I am tired. And I have severe insomnia, racing thoughts, pain and an issue regulating my circadian rhythm so I am literally always tired. It also helps my anxiety. When we first bought it I laid down on the bed and DH spread it over me and I immediately started crying and continued to do so for half an hour. I just felt so right, so soothed, so secure, so anchored. Some things that hold true for me. I like it cold, so the cover I get and the fill used in it is important. No milky covers for me and I prefer the glass beads without much fill, if any, other fill. The bamboo covers are too slick and it keeps sliding down to the foot of the bed so I have to buy another cover. If you have arms/shoulder/wrist issues, it could be an issue. Do not pull up by your sheets with the blanket on top, especially if the material is thin or worn, as this action could rip them. Ask me how I know From reading reviews, get one where the filler is sewn in smaller areas so the shifting is more even. I have two from this brand, YnM, and I have been very pleased. It was recommended to me by a pea. If you decide to pull the trigger (ugh, that expression has to go, what’s another one that means the same thing?) to attach the cover I recommend turning it inside out and laying on your bed. Put the blanket on top and tie all but the tie at the open end. Then turn it right side out and tie the remaining tie before zipping it up. I recommend two people for this job for the larger blankets. I would not, under any circumstances, purchase a blanket and cover that do not have ties. As for the weight you choose, that’s really going to be a personal preference. They recommend a certain percentage of your weight but I will say I laid both down on top of me at once and it was heaven even though it exceeded their recommendations by a lot. I’d sleep like that if it weren’t so hot. Speaking of, I am always hot, but am able to use mine year round. There are nights where my hormones are more out of wack and I have to fold it down to my waist, but never have to be without it completely. Back to weight, keep in mind that a smaller lighter blanket may not feel as heavy as a larger heavier weight. I went up a size, and 5 pounds, but the weight per inch is less because it is spread out over a larger area. Also, if you share your bed with someone, that will impact several things. One, if they sleep at a higher position than you (say on their side as opposed to flat on their back) it will hold some of the weight off you. Anytime the weight doesn’t directly drop down your sides it is ‘diluted’. Also, we have a king bed but the current blanket is only large enough for 1.5 people, so it falls in between us. May not be an issue for you, but when we move over to snuggle we have to finagle things and lift it so that we can come in contact with each other. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. If you have any specific questions please feel free to tag me. Hope it helps you as much as it does me. eta: I just realized I never answered the most important question, it does help me go to sleep and I stay asleep longer. Now, my issues are severe and it is not a cure all, but it really helps and I definitely notice a difference when I don’t use it. And like hop2 ’s daughter, I use mine when I am awake as well. Very soothing. Life changing was used above, and for me that is also not an exaggeration. eta2: I have fibromyalgia and have almost zero issues with the additional weight. My best guess is because it is kind of a constant, overall pressure. Now, the times when my skin hurts so much fabric feels like sandpaper and any touch is excruciating? It’s a no go, but then again, so are clothes and sheets so...can’t really hold it against the blanket either. Fortunately, that’s rare. This ends my novel The Weighted Blanket, my Best Friend, by Dewryce.

Bought one for my 19 y/o dd who complains of having issues going to sleep. She has had it since Christmas and claims it helps her go to sleep much faster. The real test will be when she goes back to college and uses it.
Make sure you get the correct weight. I read that it should be 10% of your body weight.

I bought one for our bed. I felt like I slept better since the first night. DH hated it for the first few weeks..he was actually sleeping less. But he’s gotten used to it...or at least he hasn’t complained in a while.

I love mine. I have fibro, restless legs, anxiety, insomnia, etc. I sleep much better and I like it also just when I a sitting on the couch. I bought a lap sized one on etsy from a lady who customized it for me to be the right weight. I use a 12 pound blanket and weigh about 150. My husband hates a weighted blanket so I use a twin on top of our quilt on the king sized bed.

I love mine! Sleeping so much more soundly. I still get up to go to the bathroom, but fall right back to sleep. I told my dh I feel like I'm back in my mom's belly! I have a 15 lb. and was hot, so I switched out the duvet to a cotton one and am enjoying it. I got mine at Target. Get one with a duvet because I don't think you can wash the blanket because of the glass beads.

DD has had hers for 2 years and loves it. Was home from uni and didn’t bring it (too heavy for the flight) and was complaining after the first few nights.
I am in Canada, got it at Bed Bath and Beyond and they had a great return policy (we kept the third one!!

My DD19 likes hers. Makes me panicky and almost claustrophobic, but I don't have anxiety or sleep issues. She says it makes her cozy and feels so good.

I love my weighted blanket. I sleep longer and I sleep deeper. I still have insomnia, but when I do sleep it's a better quality of sleep.
I bought a 12lb before I knew there was a formula to figure out what weight a person should use. 10% of ones body weight plus 2 pounds. Based on my weight, I should use approximately an 17lb blanket. I wouldn't want heavier than the 12lb, because it would be too hot.
Also, at the same time I started using the weighted blanket, I also bought and started sleeping on a wedge pillow. Sleeping on an incline has helped decrease my sinus congestion and sinus issues.

Dh and I tried them. He loved it and I HATED it. I followed the formula to get the "correct" weight but I really think something about half as much would be better. However, I found that I prefer to just use an extra quilt so I never tried a lighter weight.

I like mine but it is hot to sleep under. Normally by this part of winter it’s cold enough in the house at night that I can sleep under it comfortably but not so much this year. I can’t even tolerate having the lightweight, thin $20 Kohl’s comforter on me all night because I get so hot and I’m constantly flinging it off and then pulling it back on 20 minutes later because now I’m cold.

It took me a bit to get used to, but I love mine. I find it keeps me toasty wherever my body hits it but, whenever I have a hotflash, I can just move my foot a bit and get some sweet, cool comfort.
