Pretty sure I’ll be getting bifocals at my next appointment. Been relying on my readers with my contacts so I’m sure I’ll get bifocal contacts too.
Where do you purchase your glasses? Have you had success going to bifocal glasses and/or contacts? Any other tips would be appreciated. I hate changes like this, not because I’m getting older, just because it’s new.

I wear progressives, and have both eyeglasses and sunglasses from Warby Parker. I’ve been really happy with them, and I’ll go back there when my prescription expires this summer.
ETA: I don’t have any experience with contacts. I didn’t have any trouble adjusting when I moved to progressives, though.

From my ophthalmologist/optometrist office. I do that because with my VSP insurance, I get so much covered and then a 20% discount on anything over what insurance doesn't cover. They cover a lot so I paid my $35 copay, $50 for scans, and then $82 for added stuff on my glasses.
Ds was $232 oops but his special glasses are very expensive and I added blue light, progressive, scratch resistant coating, ect.

I have both bifocal contacts and bifocal glasses. I adjusted to both very easily, but I still can’t read well with my bifocal contacts. The problem with bifocal contacts is that you have to give up a little distance vision to have good reading vision and I wasn’t okay with that. I’ve switched almost entirely over to my glasses...until Covid when I wear my contacts if I have to go out so I don’t have to deal with mask fogging of my glasses. And then I just use readers over them as needed. If you don’t like bifocal contacts there are other things they can try like monovision lenses where they give you one lens for distance and one (or none) for reading. I didn’t tolerate those well. I get my contacts from my eye doctor but get my glasses from Zenni. Even with progressives I’ve had good luck with them.

For many years I got them at a local optician's office. When he closed I went to Sam's. I still use an ophthalmologist for the Rx.
If you have very much difference in the distance and the reading Rx, then I would not use the progressive lens, and the optician should be able to advise you on that.
I have graduated to trifocals.

Like @sunnycamom, I get mine from my optometrists office because of our insurance plan.

I recently purchased my first pair of glasses which were progressives. I had a PHENOMENAL experience with our local Warby Parker store.
This is the first year we’ve had vision insurance. I’ve been seeing an ophthalmologist for years for an eye condition so went there for my exam even though they’re not in network.
WP wasn’t in network but my insurance paid 50%. I simply cannot say enough how seamless the entire process with WP was. They were knowledgeable and handled the Covid precautions wonderfully. By the time I got to my car they had emailed my receipt and the paperwork I needed, along with a link to my insurance website, so I could get my refund started. Glasses were shipped to my house 8 days later. They even offered to help DH figure out why his progressives weren’t working for him and make adjustments for him even though he didn’t buy there.

I have progressive glasses and monovision contacts from one of the big box chains. Nothing special about the service. I mostly wear my glasses, but like wearing my contacts when I go out for an evening or event (which lately is practically never!). The monovision contacts took some getting used to but I was able to adapt. It's amazing what the brain does!

Another with progressives who orders through the ophthalmologist's office.
I stopped whering contacts before I needed progressives so have no advice on the contact/glasses pairing.

I like Zenni Optical online. It has frames as low as $6.95. It takes about 2 weeks to get them.

I've always gotten mine from Lenscrafters, but I was really unhappy with my most recent pair. I have a very thick prescription and I don't know how other places would compare to Lenscrafters as far as the weight, but I am thinking about trying someone else, as long as they have a return policy that would allow me to reject them if they are too heavy. I think I will be joining the bifocal club with my next pair, and I'm not happy about it. I already can't see far away, now I can't see up close either???

DH works for a vision company, so we get free glasses every year from a local eye doctor. We used to go through Costco and was always happy with them, and will go back to Costco when DH retires.

I wear lined bifocals. After much research, I chose getting mine at Costco. I went to an optometrist first and took my prescription to Costco. At the time, I wasn’t even a member. But even with the price of a new membership, I still came out ahead using Costco. I loved everything about my experience with them.

I went from contacts and readers to progressive glasses. I love them and will never go back to contacts and readers. I purchased my glasses from my ophthalmologist. They had to remake them twice to get them perfect.

My glasses and contacts are both from Costco. Ridiculously inexpensive with our insurance. My contacts have been fantastic. My glasses need to be adjusted because I have to practically stick them all the way up to my forehead to be able to see through the bottom part of the lens and focus on up-close reading. Hoping I can get it all straightened out. But regardless, I've been so happy with the Costco opticians.

I go to an optometrist for my exams and contacts. They do the billing for me and I don’t need to submit ppw to my insurance to get reimbursed, like when I went to Costco for lenses.
My optometrist has been awesome about trying every different multi focal contact lens, that are available. Unfortunately, I still seem to need readers when I wear regular or multifocal lenses. You might have better success depending on your prescription. I have -4.50 contacts for distance, which is pretty bad!😮

My optometrist is also a close friend, so she gives me the friends and family discount when I order my glasses from her.
I love my progressives. They took a few weeks to get used to, but now I can see the road signs when driving AND read a book without having to change out my glasses.
