I'm not normally squeamish about shots, but I've seen so many shot videos on the news lately that I am becoming squeamish about them.

I've heard "jab" in news articles mostly. In the UK. That's a good one too!

I agree! I don't like it either.
Each time we watch the news, I fast forward when they show people getting shots. I told my husband by the time we can get a vaccine, I may hesitate because the photos freak me out! (I am only kidding, so no one needs to tell me the importance of shots, I am getting one the minute we can!) There was a phrase I was thinking about a couple days ago and I wanted to ask about it here if someone brought of a pet peeve thread. And I already forgot what it was!

LOL I swear those needles look soooo long! And some people take so long to push it all the way in! And sometime the needle looks longer than the person’s arm is thick!
....not that I’m noticing. 😂

it's starting to remind me of the phrase "boots on the ground." I got soooooo sick of hearing that phrase that I wanted to punch the tv every time I heard it. LOL

The phrases don't bother but stop showing the needles and especially the needles in the arm 🤢 whether in video or in articles. I've gotten better with needles over the years but I don't want to see them and certainly not multiple times a day!

I am sick to death of seeing close up video of someone injecting a person's arm. Every time the needle used looks HUGE.
Having a vaccination does not bother me, but looking at all those needles is giving me trauma.

However, I made sure to relax my arm muscles the best I could and I quite honestly barely felt it.

I just googled it and it said it was only about 3 inches. It really looked like a foot long when the dr was jabbing it into my belly.

The few people I know IRL said it didn't hurt at all, so I just assume NONE of them hurt.

For some reason the needles on the news aren’t really bothering me. But alllllll the videos of people getting swabbed for the test drive me nuts. I’m like “we get it, we really do...it has to go WAY up there. No need to show it yet again!”

I know my amino needle was longer than 3”. I swear it was 6”. Maybe because I had it done at 37 weeks to see if DD’s lungs were mature enough for delivery?

ITA about the "putting shots in the arms..." phrase. We know where the shots are supposed to be injected. Do we need to hear this graphic phrase??
I'm sick of seeing people get the injections too. I do have a fear of needles to begin with and this is making it much worse. It does seem like they have to really jam it in your arm and the needle seems to be HUGE to me. I don't know how I'd "relax". I don't relax each time I get a flu vaccine.
Another term I'm so sick of hearing on mainstream media is "unpack". It's as though a few people repeat the same phrase and then it takes off. STOP. Can we stop saying, "Well, we'll have to unpack that information and break it down..."
Also, journalists, etc., on the news seem to be getting much more unprofessional. They begin sentences with the word, "So................." REALLY?? Drop the "so".
Sidenote: Maybe we're all watching too much news!

In Australia, thankfully we do don't use the term 'shot' for injections.

@bergdorfblonde relaxing you arm really does help the after affects of pain in the arm, particularly with the flu shot! Probably the vaccine too. When possible, I literally let my arm hang down for the shot or rest your arm in your lap.

When possible, I literally let my arm hang down for the shot or rest your arm in your lap. I hope I remember this when I finally get mine. My arm was really sore after getting my flu shot this year. I swear it felt like a really big bruise for at least three days. Of course I did a drive up shot so my arm was anything but relaxed. I know I have used this saying. Well about getting vaccines into arms as that just seems the easiest way to say it. I don’t use the word shot with it.

I can't think of ever hearing that saying in the UK in my experience. We usually call it a vaccination, injection with some calling it a jab.
