First up - how the heck do I unclip? I have watched the video dozens of time, but I can't do it! I can't get enough momentum to swing my foot out - I feel like I am going to wrench my knee if I use too much force. What is your secret?
Also, I can tell already the seat is going to kill my (very large) butt. Will I just get used to it? Any tips to minimize the discomfort?
Who are your favorite instructors? Anything you wish you knew right away?
Can't wait to get started!

1. Twist with your toes, not your knees. Push down and twist. 2. Get a padded seat and padded shorts 3. Sam Yo is my favorite; CDE (Christine D'Ercole) is a close second; Denis Morton is high up there for me too. Robin Arzon too - she's wonderful. I prefer the kind, nurturing, supportive, babysitting instructors - don't like the drill sergeants.

It took awhile for the unclipping to get easier-left my shoes clipped on for a couple weeks. I think Kendall had a tip that clicked for me-with your right leg up, turn the heal inward to unclip and then swing that leg down to the left side of the bike and then twist out. I think it also has a bit to do with breaking in the cleats.
There are programs for beginners. I didn't know that and wished I had, may have gotten some basic tips up front. Do Mastering the Basics. on your screen scroll toward the bottom and you will see it.
I'm more motivated by the playlists vs instructors. So I will search around for rides with music I like and bookmark them. When I first started I would spend 30 minutes looking for the right ride. Now I just scroll through my bookmarks and decision made in a minute.
As for the butt, you really need to slide back. If I'm honest I'm more bothered in the lady parts area than my butt. I've tried padded shorts and it never helped. I have not tried looking into a new seat, I just kind of deal with it. I've done 200 plus rides so that's kind of the conclusion I've come to.
Instructors-it really depends on what personality seems to motivate you. Like I said I'm all about the music so I like Jenn Sherman, Cody, and Leann, but they are all huge talkers so that may be a reason to avoid them. I wish I liked Alex and Kendall, but their rides are always so hard, I just avoid them :-P Matt, Christine and Dennis and super soothing and seem to offer a lot of support for correct technique during rides.
Have fun! Find the #peasquad, you'll have an automatic 12 friends if you request to follow us. And get in the habit of doing the 5 minute stretch after the ride, you'll be thankful the next day. (SomeMadHope20)

The first time I rode I couldn't get my shoes unclipped and just took the shoes off....LOL. Push down with your toe and kick your heel out a bit. Once you do it once you will have the hang of it.
Try out as many instructors as you can to find out which ones you like, also which ones tend to play the music you like. My favorite is Alex Toussaint. Other favorites are Robyn, Cody and Jess Sims for bike bootcamp.
As for the seat, you really do get used to it. Try to position yourself a little further back in the seat.

I don’t have a peloton, I have the ic4 but use the app. I clip out easily, I have a hell of a time clipping in. Your list is my preference list too. Sam Yo is just a delight!

Definitely get a gel seat. I had trouble unclipping my shoes and left them in forever. Finally a friend who rides all the time came over and couldn't either. He ended up loosening the clips on my shoes, they were too tight. That helped them unclip easier. (If that makes sense, lol!)
Make sure your seat is at the proper height, also.
Now, anyone have tips to get some motivation to actually ride? I am soooo bad!!

Now I want one! I did spin about ten years ago and it was such an amazing workout. Even better than the twenty mile runs I did for marathon training. I've never sweated so much in my life. Enjoy your new bike! Keep us posted on your progress.

I cannot unclip the way it is suggested. I put my right foot at the top of the cycle. Then I take my right foot and go towards the bike, not away. Then I step over and unclip the left foot. I cannot kick my right foot out. My method works great for me.

If you are new to cycling your butt is going to hurt- no way around it. I had a different bike before entering peloton and I’d say it took a good week + to be ok. Now I can ride for 60 no problem. For instructors I’d recommend taking everyone just to get a glimpse into their personality - the all for one ride is a great way to do that. And then every few months try a couple again- my preferences and needs have changed over time. So someone you once wrote off might be your new cup of tea. Music is my number one motivator so I don’t ride with anyone without checking the playlist and some instructors just don’t play music I like. The only exception to this is Cody. I always take Cody rides- he’s my favorite. Besides Cody I also ride mostly with Sam Yo, Jen Sherman, and Leanne. There’s only two I actively avoid- everyone else usually gets into my rotation every so often with cool down rides etc. I’d recommend using the app for all the content besides spinning. Bike bootcamps are good, strength content, and my fav- yoga. Have fun! I un-joined the pea tag because they only let you have 7 or 9 and I never saw any peas in when I ride (I’m west coast).
