That thread got me thinking about my favorite type(s) of chocolates. Not necessarily a particular brand, but the type of chocolate. I tend to be a nuts and/or chews girl myself - love chocolate covered caramels. Every now and again something creamy sounds good, but for the most part nuts and chews are my thing. Oh, and a good chocolate mint nearly always hits the spot! What about you? 30+ years ago when I was between careers I managed a Purdy’s Chocolates store for about 9-10 months. They are a chocolatier based in BC, Canada and were trying to become multi-national so opened several shops in Western WA. The one I managed was in Bellevue Square. I ate SO much yummy chocolate then! And I was a whopping 102lbs with an awesome metabolism so I could get away with it. Oh...but for the good old days. Next? Oh and if you’re going to reply with “oh I hate chocolate and I don’t know ANYONE who likes it, y’all suck,” how about moving on

I love dark chocolate creams. See's and Great! Lakes Candy are awesome.
I also love the dark chocolate covered orange jellies from Trader Joe's.

I don’t discriminate, my body does- no tree nuts or fruity chocolate due to allergies. I love chocolate in all colors and forms. Right now I would love some of the coconut candies discussed in the other thread. I love a caramel chocolate, but prefer it to be a soft caramel. You being in Seattle makes me miss the Dilettante second shop that was behind Broadway. We used to go in and by the chocolate that they had used in dipping, my favorite was when it had been used for espresso beans, it picked up the flavor best but you could eat a healthy portion without making your hair stand up from being over caffeinated.

I will second the Franco mints and could eat a whole box by myself. But I also like dark chocolate with raspberry filling, either as a cream filled bonbon/truffle or a Ghirardelli square.
We have a local place in my area that makes the best hand dipped chocolates and truffles. It’s a really good thing that it’s not very close to where I live, so I have to make an effort to go there.

The name sounds familiar but I can't picture it...I also worked at Bell Sq about 30 years ago. Hard to pick a favorite but for me either nuts and chews from See's or Frango mints.

I haven’t had Frango Mints in forever. They’re so good. I also really like Lindt truffles. The filling is divine. In general I like milk chocolate with caramel, coffee, or coconut fillings. I also love See’s divinity.
You guys are really pushing me over the edge with the chocolate threads. I’m going to have to satisfy this craving.

there is a chocolate shop in Green Bay called Serooge's and they make delicious chocolate and mint chocolate meltaways. They also make 1 lb. chocolate covered fudge eggs at Easter time that are wonderful.
Other than that...anything with coconut and chocolate is always welcome.

Market Optical currently leases the space. I also was a buyer for a different chain of 5 local shops called The Soap Box prior to that. We had a location in Bell Square as well. This would be mid 80’s-ish. Where did you work?

Years and years and years ago one of my staff gave me a Dilettante Ephemere filled Easter Egg (probably 3” big). Omg, I was snacking on that thing for days. That was my first introduction to Dilettante. I wonder if they still have their cafe on Broadway. More than once friends and I would cap off a late night out with a treat from there.

Coffee flavor paired with chocolate... Mmmmm.
Not that I, um... You know... Not that I much have a preference, or like chocolate much..... Yeah... 😁

It’s always been held over my birthday weekend and I have fond memories of attending with my Grandmother and doing all of the kids crafts WAY back when Bell Square was just a collection of shops in an open air setting.

Oh my gosh. I haven’t had Frango mints in years. Years ago there was a fancy fancy department store at the mall that carried them only at Christmas time. That’s the only time you could buy them. When the store went out of business I never saw them again.
Personally, I’m a dark chocolate lover. DeBrands chocolate is the best. We go through a container of Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups so fast I had to stop buying them. Ha.

See's peppermint patties. Oh my word, I could eat an entire box all by myself and still ask for more.
A local chocolate maker, Mrs. Cavanaugh's, makes a mint chocolate truffle covered in both dark and milk chocolate. She calls them Mindy Mints and they are absolutely divine.
I'm very fond of Sweet Afton's mint chocolate fudge at Christmastime, Stephen's mint chocolate hot cocoa all winter, and Breyer's mint chocolate chip ice cream all year long.
You may think you are detecting a pattern here. You would not be wrong.

Dark chocolate with caramel, salt, and pecans --- what's often known as a "turtle."

Winfrey’s milk chocolate salted caramels. A local fudge shop. They have chewy caramel and smooth milk chocolate. I don’t really like dark chocolate. It hurts my mouth.

Opera creams or caramels from Esther Price’s in Dayton, Ohio. I was going to respond that just about any chocolate, especially dark chocolate would be my favorite. But this reminded me of the Esther Price chocolates - OMG they are good!! The nutty caramel ones are the best, but really any of them are sooooo good!

We went there once a week in college. You can buy their ephemere sauce at Safeway here and there is always a bottle in the fridge. They have a store at Sea Tac, when I have flown from there I always get myself a treat preflight. I hate flying, and I figure if something bad is going to happen I want my last meal to have been worth it. I had some sort of delicious mint cake at 8 am last time I was there.

I don't think I've ever seen them (but I haven't been looking...) I think they might be seasonal. They are usually in the area where they have the large candy bars, jerky, and trail nut snack stuff. At our store they are in the front. They are in a white and green bag. Here is a link, you can buy them elsewhere, but obviously Costco is way cheaper. It is under 10 a bag. www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/she-loves-me/dilettante-chocolates-mint-truffles-costco/
