Covid lockdown happened days before my daughter’s bday last year and I canceled her bday party because I didn’t know about drive by celebrations or anything.
I’m determined this year to do something. But something that fits the parameters of conscious covid safety, since our area is still HIGH in cases. We counted 6 girls she wants to invite. The idea is to do some sort of art or craft virtually together.
I would buy the materials and drop off supplies to each girl who will attend. Along with a cupcake. I realize this may be a bit costly but...it’s 6 girls and last year she got nothing. And she has missed so much this year.
I considered trying to find an artist type of person to lead it. But..after talking with my daughter, she thinks I can do it just fine. (I’m crafty but I can’t draw...so sketching is out of the question.).
Oh, I would need to use DH’s webex account or buy a zoom license so we can have more than 30 min. Google meet just doesn’t seem as user friendly. Is there anything else?
So...does anyone have some really cool craft / art / upcycle type of projects for 9-10 year old girls? Thank you thank you!

I don't have any ideas, but wanted to thank you for having a party for your daughter and doing it safely! We had my husband's family reunion virtually and it was so much fun!

Could you maybe do a Facebook Live? You could create a private group. The parents would have to have FB though
Edited to add: I dont think that would work. It wouldn't be interactive.

Do you have a Michael’s near you? They have inexpensive preprinted canvas kits that are great for kid’s parties. My kid went to an art party like that about a year and a half ago and the kids really liked it. Here’s a link to what I’m talking about: www.michaels.com/assorted-canvas-paint-set-by-creatology/10514091.htmlIf that’s not your kid’s jam, I’m sure there are a lot of other ideas there that would also work. ETA: Could you use FaceTime or Skype?

Good ideas! Cute canvas! I should look into Skype. I’m not sure I can do FaceTime with 6 people. I haven’t done it before at least. Only 3 people.

Make tie dye kits with a shirt/sweatshirt for each girl and deliver them in advance. My daughter taught this over zoom & they had a blast. She had questions/ice breakers, snacks (dropped off pre-party with the kits), good music and trivia to keep things going.
We have an art/craft studio with classes near us. They offer kids parties with macrame, chalkboard signs, slime & jewelry making for that age.
One year we had a cupcake wars / decorating party (the cakes/icing/decorations were provided for each child). I got them plain white aprons at Joanns/Michaels and embroidered their names & a cupcake on the front. You could walk them through frosting a cake/cupcakes & decorating.

I’d bet that Pinterest has a bunch of ideas as well. OP, if you have a craft idea or theme, I think the Peas could come up with some great ideas! Just a note—before tie dying, talk to the parents first. There’s NO WAY I would have let my kids tie dye in the house. I tried really hard to sponsor creativity and to just let my kids have fun when they crafted, but some of our houses had carpeted dining rooms or kitchens too small to have a table and chairs over the tile floor. We did a lot of Easter egg decorating and pumpkin carving in the garage over the years, but I’m not sure if the WiFi would have been strong enough to stream a video.

What about making friendship bracelets? The girls may already have some experience doing it so you could show a few knots and then they can kind of finish it on their own and chat while they do it. That makes it more interactive than you just simply leading a craft class. Embroidery floss is relatively inexpensive and small, so kids can do it at a computer desk or dining table. There are a ton of patterns on Pinterest so you could even print out the instructions for those who are more visual learners.
(And I agree about talking to parents before deciding on tie-dye to see if it's an option. I wouldn't allow it in my house and it's way too cold to do it outside.)

Last year my 8 yo dd bay party was scheduled right at the start of Covid. The plan was to have her party at Color Me Mine (a painting studio). There wasn’t any cases yet but since it was being talked about so heavily I decided we weren’t going to the studio. Instead I did it at our house. In the end it went really well and Lexi said it was her favorite party so far. I bought various items for them to paint and it didn’t require any help from me so I think this would would work well for zoom too. It also was cheaper than what it would have been if we went to Color Me Mine.
Idk if you have a Color Me Mine in your area but they now have to go kits. Lexi has done them a few times and really loves that as well.

To go along with the cupcake decorating I’ve done fondant tutorials for how to create a pink pig and rolled roses...super easy to use (like playing with play do and so cute! You could package up a couple colours of fondant.

If you want to do a cupcake decorating party, check your grocery store bakery for supplies. One of our stores sells cookie kits-cookie, frosting, decorations.

If you want to do a cupcake decorating party, check your grocery store bakery for supplies. One of our stores sells cookie kits-cookie, frosting, decorations. When my kid was in kindergarten I was able to get naked cookies and a container of buttercream icing from the grocery store bakery as well as a couple containers of sprinkles for the teachers to pass out to the kids in Dixie cups. This would be an easy thing to do for a party. They just had the kids spread on the icing with a plastic knife and then put on the sprinkles. If you wanted to give the kids colored icing you could divide the icing and color it, then get condiment cups with lids from Amazon or Party City (they sell them for making individual Jell-O shots) and just put the icing and sprinkles into cups. Or find a local cottage baker and buy premade cookie decorating kits or Paint Your Own Cookie kits from them.
