As I wrote about in another thread, I am going to make a felt book for a friend who is having a baby. Is there a "better" kind of felt to use for something like this? I've never made anything like this before. I have made a few ornaments using the craft felt from Michaels/Hobby Lobby. It seems a little thin, and I'm not sure how it will hold up. I will be using two pieces of felt for each page, stitched together with a blanket stitch, and I thought about using a thin layer of batting in between the two pieces of felt.
I guess my question is: Is that inexpensive craft felt from hobby stores the best, or only, kind of felt out there, or is there something a little bit higher quality that would work better for something like this?

JoAnns sells WoolFelt by the yard. It's thicker than the sheets and has a higher wool content (most sheets are synthetic.). They also sell synthetic felt by the yard, but the WoolFelt is on narrower bolts. I can't remember if it's 45" wide or 35" wide. I also buy wool felt online at PaperTrey ink. It's thinner than the WoolFelt, but it's soft as butter and comes in tons more colors. It's also more expensive and it's only 6" wide.

I second using better quality felt. I made mine out of the craft felt squares and regret having put all that time and effort into it with that felt! It hasn't worn as well as I would've liked. It gets a lot of playtime(happy about that) but it has pills on the fabric. Wish I would've used better felt!

I think you will be sorry if you use ordinary craft felt for such a special project. It doesn't hold its shape very well, and as someone else mentioned, it pills. I have ordered wool felt online in the past for a better quality product. I'm not sure, but it might have been from this site: American Felt and Craft
I love felt! Put some pictures in the gallery when you're finished so we can see your beautiful creation.

I bought felt that you buy by the yard at Joanne's: it is also used to make Halloween costumes. It holds up well and doesn't stretch out like regular craft felt.
