THIS MORNING I opened the thread here about emergency preparedness. Someone mentioned some pop-up LED battery operated lanterns and I thought they looked like a good idea to store away. I ordered them. THIS MORNING. Did I mention that I ordered them THIS MORNING? omg...I left for the grocery store at about 10:30 THIS MORNING and there on my porch was a package. I wondered what it was, tossed it in the front door without opening it, and went to do my shopping. I opened it just now. It was those lanterns!!! omg Amazon needs to take over the post office!

DH was telling me yesterday something about Amazon being approved for deliveries by drone.

I ordered dog food yesterday that was delivered later that day. Also had an order delivered overnight that was on the doorstep at 7am this morning, that was ordered with the dog food. Amazon does have it's faults but sometimes their delivery is amazing!!!

Those Amazon vans are fast becoming as common as UPS trucks. It's wild!

LOL it's like they knew you were going to order and had them waiting in the delivery van!

This happens to Dh all of the time, pissed me off because on the rare occasion I order something, it takes a month of Sundays to arrive even though it said 2days.
Dh has become the primary orderer of things because of his super power.

We were getting notices last night, a Sunday, that we were getting a delivery between 9-10 PM. at 9:50 PM we received a notice that they were 6 stops away.
We ended up not getting the package last night (it was due for Monday delivery anyway)....it was delivered to our doorstep at 7:20 AM this morning.
Yes, they should absolutely take over the PO, or train them! LOL

I saw on TikTok (so you know it's legit LOL) that if you have something in your cart and leave it for a bit they start moving that item closer to you. When you finally pull the trigger it shows up really fast and you're pleased. They know you're a sucka who will inevitably check out.

That is crazy it would show up literally within hours!
DD needed a ski and boot bag that I was planning to get locally last week (over an hour away to get them). LUCKILY I called as their inventory was incorrect online so I could only get a ski bag. Tried another store and also didn't have the boot bags either. Decided screw it, I'll take my chances on it getting here today with Prime (she leaves tomorrow) and they actually showed up yesterday. I barely made use of my prime membership for years, but we are certainly making good use of it in the past year!

Yes! Amazon should take over the PO. I doubt Amazon wants to take over the PO. They are probably far more interested in only serving those w/money to feed their profits. When you run a service like the PO or a public nursing home or hospital that must serve the poor, etc. you have to spend a lot on people whose business doesn't add to your profits. I doubt that's appealing to billionaire Bezos.

I would personally prefer for Chick-fil-A to take over the post office. Instead of dealing with dour rude employees who move in slow motion, I would be greeted by a smiling person who replies to “thank you” with “my pleasure” instead of a freaking blank stare.

My first order ever from amazon...I ordered a book on Sunday night and it arrived on Monday morning. Not as good as your story, but it was probably in the 1990s. I wish there was a way to easily find out when I began ordering from them. I recall feeling nervous about ordering online and using a credit card.

There is a way you can look at every purchase you ever made, and it’s filtered by years. Is this what you meant?

Yes! Amazon should take over the PO. There is a huge difference in making quick deliveries from your own warehouse than making deliveries coming into a sorting facility and then being delivered.

Yeah, let's privatize the Post Office. That'll work. *sarcasm* Shipping sure as hell wouldn't be free (or anywhere near USPS cost) when it is the product. And rural people, let's pay much more if available at all- that's the ticket!

I love same day deliveries. I've used it for things like menstrual pain medicine. I added more to my cart to get it free and even used my HSA card. Amazon is taking (has taken?) over the world or at least our house.

Wow, that's very impressive! We haven't had Amazon for very long in this country, and we don't have as many distribution centres here, so you can't get same day delivery. The best I have had is next day delivery, and I was super excited and impressed with that - imagine how excited I'd be with same day delivery within a couple of hours?!

How about same day delivery of groceries? I recently started using Amazon Fresh and it's awesome! I can usually get a 2 hour delivery.

That’s crazy!
I am getting more and more bothered by the post office. We have had two things from Amazon get lost when they were supposed to already be in the town next to ours. Right now I’m waiting on a qvc package that said it was in the town next to/attached to ours on the 18th. Then it said it is in the twin cities (further away) and no new updates since the 18th.

I ordered some crayola art supplies last night...literally around 6 pm. The original scheduled delivery time was Wednesday. And they were just delivered to my doorstep at 9:45 AM! LOVE AMAZON when I need something fast!
We are fortunate though, we literally live within 40 miles of 5 massive Amazon warehouses/distribution centers. (1 is within 3 miles, 1 within 10, 1 within 20, 2 others within the 40)
