What is your favorite type of vacation? The camper thread reminded me that camping is definitely not mine. Lol! I enjoy renting a cabin somewhere with lots of outdoor stuff to do and a fire pit, but at night I want a king sized bed. An all-inclusive resort on nice beach with a great pool has been a favorite lately. Unfortunately, the last type of vacation of that sort was in 2019. We also like city vacations where we stay in a nice hotel within walking distance or public transport of restaurants and fun stuff.

We are big city vacationers.
NYC. London. Paris.
Somewhere with lots of museums, art, historical sites, shows, experiences you can’t get anywhere else.
We do not care about relaxing (we can sleep at home), we do not care about meals, we do not care about stuff at the resort (don’t want to sit in lounge chairs, get massages, etc.).

Beach person all the way! I have 2.5 months of in the summer and we have a part model trailer and sunroom permanently parked at a park. Internet Tv air conditioning, not hard at all . The last number of years we have gone to all inclusive s ,usually Jamaica. I am tired of all inclusive .next year I have a lead on a 2 bedroom house in Costa Rica with a small pool. 5 min walk to the beach and 2 mins to the golf course for hubby I am hope we love it and this will become how we spend the month of March each year

I'm pretty much game for just about anything. I love big cities, I love the beach, and I even like camping in a camper. But I think that's just part of my attitude of I'll try just about anything once.

My favorite are: - urban vacations where we might stay at a neat old hotel and spend our days walking all over the city exploring it, eating good food, and seeing some history and culture. Cities for this would be Boston, NYC, Mexico City, Paris, Portland,Chicago, Copenhagen
- cabin in the mountains where we spend our days hiking and swimming. Examples are Yosemite and Tahoe
- road trips where you see a lot of neat stuff over a week. We’ve done southwest, northwest, Midwest and east coast road trips each one was amazing.
Least favorite vacations would be staying at an all inclusive resort and just sitting around by one of seven pools.

We like to mix it up. Big cities with museums and galleries, beach resorts, road trips. My current wish list is: beach resort in Greece, which will also include some museums or archeology sites, a road trip along the Rhine visiting wineries and some smaller, old cities, and a trip to Italy which would include a city visit (Milan) and a few days beside a lake (Garda or Como).

Any vacation where I have something to explore. It could be a big city, a couple weeks driving through a new to us area or both. Lots of stops for museums, historical sites, hikes and/or sitting in the town square with a coffee.
I love doing a food walking tour and eating is absolutely part of the adventure. At least half our days would be planned around hitting certain restaurants for a meal.
We are lucky enough to live in a beach vacation area so that isn't what I'm looking for when getting away.

I like city vacations and beach vacations. But with both, food is a huge component of it. No fast food eating for us. We are getting back today from a beach resort and I forgot how much I love the beach. And resorts. And basically how much I love being somewhere that isn't home.
I would rather chop off my arm than camp, be in a camper, or do anything that requires me to sleep in a camper.

A beach with a drink in my hand.
Or hours and hours wandering Disney World.
I kinda lean all over with this one! 😝

I like going somewhere new. I don't want every minute scheduled. I want time to explore. And there is no eating at a chain restaurant. We look for local places. I'll ask the hotel staff or random people for tips on local joints.

City vacations are my first choice, preferably one with great museums, cultural options and restaurants. Next would be a beach resort vacation. Having done a lot of camping in my younger life, I have no interest in doing that anymore. I joke that my idea of camping now is a hotel without room service. Similarly, I have no interest in staying at an AirBnb/Vrbo or rental home and cooking/cleaning. If I have to do that, I might as well stay at home. Vacation to me is staying in a nice place and being waited on! I'm pretty much game for just about anything. I love big cities, I love the beach, and I even like camping in a camper. But I think that's just part of my attitude of I'll try just about anything once. I used to be that way. Now that I'm older and have done extensive domestic & foreign travel, I am very picky about what I am willing to spend my time and money on.

Has to be a hotel - I'm not traveling somewhere else to do all the stuff I do at home: cook, clean etc... and a nice hotel, at that.

We like camping but not tent camping and definitely not rustic style either. I need a hot shower and flush toilets. We like sitting by a fire with a beer under the stars and hiking. At the same time, we like hotels, walking distance to decent places to eat and tourist trap type of places, but not big city. Las Vegas, NYC, and the like are a big fat NO from me. We're not beachy or pool people. We would rather walk around, wander into antique shops, find the local museum, and hit up the hiking trail.

I like staying in hotels and eating in restaurants ... no work for me! I'm OK with condos but there is a lot of cooking involved which I don't necessarily love I camped in a trailer for many years ... never again ... a constant cycle of cooking and cleaning

Wow, this thread made me realize how much I really, really miss vacationing.
My favorite place to visit is a beach and ocean. I don't care if the motel is kinda cruddy as long as I can walk to the beach.
It's been a very long time since I've been.

I love a camping trip with a long, overnight or multiple overnight hike without any type of cell service or WiFi that ends with a one or two night stay in a nice cabin so we can have showers and modern kitchen cooking or take out before we head home.

I need to be able to get outdoors, either woods or beach or mountains is fine. I don't care much about meals or seeing big cities, I've seen enough of those. A day in a city seeing the sights in a double decker hop-on buys is plenty for me and after that I'd like to be in a state park hiking.
Camping is my favorite but if it's not practical because it's just too far to bring all the gear, I at least want to be able to find parks easily. Glamping companies are great for this.

Big city vacations are my favourite. All over the world. Walking all day, stopping for coffee, beer, wine, cocktails and every meal. People watching and chatting with them, visiting museums and local sights.
Beach vacations are not for me. I get bored of lounging and relaxing and I’m paranoid of the sun because there is skin cancer in my family.

I'm pretty much up for anything. I just like seeing and doing new things, or just relaxing. The ONLY requirement is that I do NOT have to cook, and good food and restaurants, or cooking out, but shared cooking. Not me doing it all.

Anything that doesn't require camping/roughing it or is very active/sports involved.
I like beach vacations, city vacations, cabins in the woods/on a lake, theme parks etc.

I wish I could travel the world, but that's not realistic right now. So, any night that I can sleep on the sea is a great night, indeed. I love cruising. Everything is right at your fingertips and you don't have to lift a finger. And, ocean. Did I mention that the ocean is my favorite place?

Why would I want to take all my chores with me on vacation? I like vacations where I can learn stuff, see stuff, eat stuff, and do stuff. I like going to National Parks and doing the ranger-led hikes. (Motel camping, of course.) We did a Viking River Cruise in 2019 and we want to go back to Europe when COVID is over. I really want to go on vacation again.

I enjoy playing tourist in a new city, but I also love a lazy beach vacation. We used to take a vacation every year, but gave that up when we bought a small house on a lake about a 45 minute drive from our house in town. We live there all summer and use it every weekend in the fall and spring. That is the ideal life for me. We're setting ourselves up to be snowbirds someday. At a certain point Minnesotans just can't take it any longer.

Anything exotic. I love cities, mountains, beaches, fancy hotels, rustic camping - any of it, so long as I’m completely out of my element in a new culture or far off place.

I like a mix of seeing and doing and relaxing. When we travel during the school year on holiday or spring break, I don't like feeling like a need a vacation from my vacation when I get back to school. We love city vacations and cultural stuff, but also enjoy the outdoors.
I prefer an AirBnB if we're going to be there for more than a couple of nights - a hotel room starts to feel confining after that amount of time. And I like being able to have coffee (good coffee, not hotel room coffee) and a simple breakfast first thing rather than always having to make our first stop of the day a restaurant or cafe.

We usually take our full 2 weeks and squeeze 3 trips in there. Typically, 5 days at a nice city in a hotel, with lots of tours. Unfortunately, husband has a weak stomach so we usually stick to chain restaurants. I’d prefer mom and pop places. We’ll do another 5 days camping in our trailer in the mountains. We’ll usually do a lot of hikes, fishing, stuff like that. We usually end our two weeks with a 3 night stay at a local beach. We usually invite friends to bonfire with us in the evening. By the time we’re done, I’m ready to get back to my work routine.

A beach with a drink in my hand. Or hours and hours wandering Disney World. I kinda lean all over with this one! 😝 Same. That's why I was so looking forward to a cruise last year; a few days busy sightseeing book-ended by a few days of sitting around while someone brought me umbrella drinks. Still bitter about it being cancelled.....stupid Covid. I could even handle a night or two of camping if it was wrapped around something worth the effort (it'd have to be something really good though!). But that would be far from a preferred vacation. I also don't like to cook but I do like to have a condo or at least 2 hotel rooms so we can spread out a bit. What I don't like is road trips or trips involving lots of driving. Which is why I'm not looking forward to the trip we're planning right now out west. I got dh talked down from 2 weeks driving from TX to Yellowstone to Denver to fly back to MI down to 1 week of just Yellowstone. But even that is going to require sooooo much car time.
