UPDATE: Turns out it is my Amazon order that was to be shipped by Amazon. I called customer service and at first they wanted me to deal with the shipper, then they were going to have the shipper send me a return tag. After I said I was not taking the package anywhere to return it ( can you image walking into a UPS store or Kohls with a huge plastic wrapped order of toilet paper as a return ), Amazon said keep the tp and they refunded the order amount. Customer service agreed with me that it was their error since the website does say it was sold and shipped by Amazon.
On the thread about a company shipping the wrong amount of a product, many said you would go to the trouble of calling and returning the overage because it's the right thing to do. So how do you return something that appears on your porch that you didn't order?
Saturday night the doorbell rings . I looked out the window to see someone get into a car and drive off. Open the door to find a huge package of Charmin tp ( Costco size). Yes I had ordered a case of Charmin but from Amazon and the delivery date is sometimes this week. Plus Amazon order is always in a box.
Look all over the outside wrapper and finally find a small label. Has a bunch of order numbers, an order time and delivery time ( it was 2 hours late). There is a last name. I check to see if it's anyone in our subdivision but can't find a matching name. I'm thinking it's a InstaCart order. As of today no one has knocked on the door asking for it back.
Would you put any effort into finding out where it came from or where it belongs?
For the record, I'm just letting it sit in entry for a few days and then using it if no one comes back for it.

Don't be surprised if someone steals it, anyway. If there was a way to find out where it was purchased or who delivered it then I would call. If not, you can't do anything. Odd.

I would call the shipper if I knew who it was.

I had something happen recently where I'd placed an order for something through Amazon. (2 bottles of WalMart brand fiber capsules) There was nothing when I ordered indicated they were coming from WalMart or anything, although of course I knew it was their brand. Later that same day, I find a WalMart bag containing 2 bottles of WalMart fiber capsules sitting on my doorstep. Long story short, it was my order, but there was no label, no receipt, no ANYTHING indicating how they got there or if they were even for me. It was really, really weird!

I thought I was reading a post I had forgotten I had made! I ordered Charmin from Amazon before our big winter storm and a couple days later Charmin appeared at my door in plain old plastic wrapping, so I didn't think twice about it. Days later, when I was checking on other Amazon orders that were delayed by the storm, I see that my toilet paper was delayed too. Yesterday I asked on Facebook if anyone recognized the type of label used, and a couple people told me that it was from Walmart. I'm going to contact them tomorrow. The bummer part is that FedEx has not updated on MY order since February 13, so now I'm supposed to contact them too, which is annoying. The shipping label from Walmart is white with a red strip around the edge. There is, what appears to be, a partial customer name on it.

Yeah, I would verify with either Amazon or Walmart. We have had several Amazon orders arrive by internet shopper in regular Walmart plastic bags. It annoys me to no end since I refuse to shop with them. There’s no indication on the original order that it’s coming from Walmart.

My parents had an Amazon order delivered by Walmart too recently. Totally random. Are you sure it's not your TP?

Amazon has started using local stores to fulfill some of their orders. I'm guessing it's to alleviate some of the shipping problems.

So I have a weird but related situation. I ordered 2 plastic bins from Walmart online a few weeks ago because they weren’t available in the store. I arrived hone last Monday to find 2 massive (5 ft by 8ft) boxes weighing 270 lbs each blocking my garage.
They are addressed to me, from Walmart, but instead of plastic bins, it is a POOL TABLE. I have spent hours and days and talked to several different agents, and I still have a pool table. Too heavy to move (or even slide), outside in the weather (luckily it has not rained), blocking access to my garage. Finally had arranged with WM for the courier to come back today. Great, I thought.
The courier comes, looks at the boxes, says “I was expecting to pick up 2 bins?” That I never received! SMH! I am trying to do the right thing but darn it, no one seems to get that I am speaking English and just want to return a 540 lb pool table, that I never ordered!
Anyone want a pool table? Lol. Seriously though, I am at a loss of what to do!

Depending on the product and the cost, I would. For this item, I'd spend about 10 minute. No more. Then, I'd donate. However, it sounds like this is your order and they just messed it up. In your situation, I'd probably accept the TP as what I ordered and ignore anything else. If you didn't have to wait on hold so long!!

My MIL ordered refried beans from Amazon and they came from Sam’s Club she had no idea that was an option.
I’ve had TP and paper towels come in boxes and just in the plastic they come in but they have always had a label.
It sounds like it may have been a Walmart or instant cart order. I’ve never done either but I seem to be in the minority. I know I have seen complaints that they get misdelivered.
I would think leaving it on your porch won’t get it to the person that ordered it but someone who sees it and decides to walk off with it.

I also think it is your order. I read a story in the local paper that Amazon was using local stores for delivery, as in some cases it was cheaper for them to so that than to ship from a warehouse. I'd bring it inside, or at least into the garage.

When you ordered TP from Amazon did you order from Amazon or a third party vendor? If it was a third party, they may have ordered it from Walmart to be delivered to you. (This has happened to me before.)

I would post on the neighborhood Facebook page. We get lots of those types of posts. I had an Amazon package left on the wrong doorstep. I posted the picture that Amazon gives you and said is this anyone’s doorstep? Found the address where my packages was within 10 minutes that way.

I'm in the camp that this is what you ordered. My order was also delivered by walmart & I know I didn't order from a 3rd party seller.

To answer a few questions/comments:
I checked my Amazon account- the order says "sold by Amazon, shipped by Amazon" Tracking says it was shipped on Sunday and shipper is FedEx which was provided by Oro Luxe.
Yes the label is white with a red border but the customer name is not me and the tp is not what I ordered.
By keeping it in entry I meant inside my house by the front door.
I'm now trying to find out how to chat with online with Amazon

I posted the picture that Amazon gives you and said is this anyone’s doorstep? Found the address where my packages was within 10 minutes that way. I ordered a $200 mini projector from Amazon. It was delivered by USPS on a Sunday, only they put it in my next door neighbor’s unlocked mailbox. We have a locking mailbox and it wouldn’t fit in the slot, and I’m sure the Surepost delivery person just didn’t want to have to get out of their vehicle to put it on my own front porch. 🤬 It was a good thing that Amazon notified me when it was supposedly delivered (and it said that it was “left in the residence’s mailbox”), and also that it was on a day when mail wouldn’t normally be expected so I was able to go and retrieve it myself instead of having to wait until my neighbors were around to get my package back. It was also a good thing that someone wasn’t driving along behind the mail vehicle stealing stuff out of mailboxes and off porches, which is something that has been increasing in my area—which is why we have a locking mailbox in the first place! To answer the original question, if I could tell from the label that the package wasn’t meant for me, I would try to track down where it was supposed to go. We happen to have a list of the names and addresses of all of our neighbors from when we moved here, so I would probably reference that list first to see if there was an obvious match. If not, I would probably delivery service and let them know they left something at my house that didn’t belong here so they could send someone out to come get it.

If it was determined to be your order, why was it refunded?

Amazon has told me to keep a couple of items when I've tried to return packages that didn't belong to me. I was thinking that it was better that you found it at your door and not adorning your trees.

If you ordered toilet paper and toilet paper was delivered I'm unsure why you'd wonder whether it was yours, no matter how it was shipped. I would have spent zero minutes on this other than to bring it inside.

At this point I'd either hire a couple people to come move it into my basement and set it up and enjoy it, or I'd list it on marketplace. I'd be incredibly angry at having my driveway blocked for that long and frankly at this point, it's yours.
