I feel like pride goeth before my fall. My skin has always been SO great. Doctors comment to me about how young I look. About 5 or 6 days ago, I woke up to being ANCIENTLY OLD. My skin is dry and flaky. Flaky!!!! I have bags under my eyes.
I promise you, that I did not look like this two weeks ago. It started with the baggy eyes and then the dry, dry, flaky skin followed.
I have worn makeup once or twice in the past week and I always take good care of my face. I use Olay Regenerist and have been very happy about it. My daughter got me some Boscia cream, but I didn't love it and stopped using it a while ago.
What is going on? This can't possibly be normal. I'd see a dermatologist, except appointments with them are like gold. I'd be lucky if I got in 6 months from now.
I am very fair, I do not keep the house warm (it's 57 now), I haven't changed laundry detergents and I can barely take it. I had to wear makeup for a meeting today and I look even scarier, possibly.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

OMG me too! What the feezy heck?!
It came on so suddenly. At first I thought it was just because I got new glasses and could *see* my skin better, but I really don't think that's the case. It is super dry and flaky.
Mine is mostly on the lower part of my face that would be covered with a mask. I don't go out often at all (less than once a week) but I'm wondering if this is contributing? I look like I have alligator skin.

I recently switched to a cleansing balm (with double cleansing) and I swear my dry skin issues disappeared overnight.

We have had consistently cold weather in VA, with all that ice, for a good part of this month. I can always tell when it is unusually dry and cold when suddenly my lips are chapped all day. I think that that might have contributed to it. Also, where are you in regards to menopause?
I would keep up with the regenerist - maybe adding it in in the morning too.

How has your sleep been lately? General stress levels? Have you been drinking adequate water? Are you eating well - enough protein and plenty of vegetables/fruit? Any changes in your overall physical health can show up on your skin - sometimes immediately and sometimes a few weeks later.
Winter is also tough on delicate facial skin, so that could factor in too. What's the humidity level like in your home?

Are you drinking plenty of water? Hydration makes a big difference to me. I notice it first with my contacts. But my skin is affected also.

I don't go out often at all (less than once a week) but I'm wondering if this is contributing? I look like I have alligator skin. I don't go out. I have probably worn a mask maybe twice in the past two weeks for a maximum of one hour. But it makes me feel a little better that it's you, too. Although I, too, got new glasses!! But this FEELS awful. Yeah, it's been awful. I walk the dogs at dawn and I do wear a scarf. My lips are pretty chapped, too. I use cream at least (!) twice a day. And I am post-menopause. How has your sleep been lately? General stress levels? Have you been drinking adequate water? I notice it first with my contacts. But my skin is affected also. I am on keto, but I easily drink at least 124 oz of water daily. I always have. My sleep, well, it hasn't been great and that's unusual, but I still sleep well, at least 6 hours a night and that is good sleep. I also was laid off, but am still working and working very hard to get thing done. I feel stress from the work, but not too too much from the job search (I do feel a little).

It happened to my hands. I have all this crepey skin on the backs of my hands. My face skin is still plump and hydrated but my hands not so much.
I am using a Kate Somerville product I got as a sample from Sephora on my face and it’s nice. Very hydrating without grease.

My skin is typically oily/combination but has been dry this winter. A few weeks ago I started using a few drops of Tatcha oil under my moisturizer morning and night. I also got Pixi clarifying bha tonic and I swear it is magic. No more peeing or flaking.
I’m sure you could use a different oil, but that is one that I had and needed to make use of.
Hormones can play a big part of aging skin. How old are you and are you going through menopause?

My neck has aged 15 years in the last year. My face is fine, very few wrinkles, probably thanks to retin a. But my neck - I am horrified by how it looks on Zoom calls and am thinking of wearing turtlenecks year round. Any help for there specifically?

If it's happened quickly, it will be environmental or diet related. If you're well hydrated on the inside, it could be dry air, especially if it's been really cold recently. You could also try adding extra oils, like olive oil to your food.

MoisturizerThis is the best stuff! You use a very small amount. I use it at night with my retinol stuff. Read the reviews.

I used to use a line of Lancome products. I didn't realize they had switched an ingredient or two and my whole face got irritated. My lips burned and I had red blotches that were irritated on my face. My dermatologist had me switch over to Ceravae and wear no make up for a week. It took a while but eventually cleared up.

If you don’t already, put moisturizer on while your skin is still damp. Especially if it has hyaluronic acid in it. The Hyaluronic Acid pulls moisture from the air into your skin. If the air is dry and there’s no moisture for it to pull, it tends to pull moisture out of your skin.
You could also try layering a very very thin layer of Aquaphor or Vaseline at night to help hold moisture in. I do this when my face gets really dry. I don’t do it every night although some people do.

I don't like spending a lot of money on skin creams and the like, but my cheeks started getting super scaly and felt like sandpaper when it first started getting cold this year (my skin has always been on the oily side). I started using jojoba oil on my face when I get out of the shower and that has really helped. Jojoba is supposedly the most similar to skin's natural oils.

Do you have a water softener? This happens when we run out of salt; I dry up and start to itch!

It is not cheap - I think it's 3.1 oz for $20 or $24. But it does last extra long for me, as I just need a dab of it - I can use less than half of what I'd use of other hand creams. (I mean, let's be honest, it's still overpriced, but I don't get manicures or anything, so I figure I'm owed something for my hands!)

If nothing has changed in my diet or lifestyle and my skin suddenly goes dry, it's usually because my thyroid has gone out of whack.
