This is why I hesitate to send my kid back to in person school NEXT fall. She will be going on to middle school which is a bigger building with more students, and as far as I know at this point none of the kids will be vaccinated yet at that point. No one knows yet what the long term risks are for children who get Covid, so I would just as soon wait to send my kid into that cesspool if I have other options.

AZ announced that they plan to vaccinate 16 and older in May. Right now, 16+ with high risk can get vaccinated.
Our so-wise governor saw what attention they were getting in TX and made an executive order that all schools must be in-person the week of March 15. My district was having teachers come back on the 15 with students returning on the 30th. We are on spring break next week - so nice to have 2 work days to prepare (sarcasm). Of course some teachers will come in over the break to prepare - but I don't work for free. I had the time to go in today and my room is ready. But some of the other teachers haven't been in their rooms and some were moved over the summer - NOTHING is set up and ready for students.
But that doesn't come close to what happened in DH's district. With PARENTS CHOOSING not to send their kids back, the district chose to be virtual for the rest of the school year. They have NO plans in place to bring kids back, but somehow they will need to do it on March 15. They are panicking because they are simply not prepared. This is a district that has been hard-hit by the virus. When DH returned from winter break he was informed that two of his students had lost parents to COVID over the break.

I have felt safe with masks. I'll be concerned if that mandate is removed. I think I'll distance myself from kids even more if they aren't wearing masks. My son stayed home this year, but I do plan to send him back next year as a freshman. I can't keep teaching all day and then doing virtual at home with my son. I can manage one year.

Y’all don’t have ANY idea how frustrating it is to have outbreaks in your school—multiple cases within classrooms and grade levels, and multiple teacher cases—and to be told over and over again that... 1. Kids don’t transmit it 2. Teachers and kids MUST be getting it from OUTSIDE of school....BECAUSE... 3. School in one of the safest places you can be.
HEY....CDC... you could’ve asked any of my coworkers and we could’ve told you that....

You know, they value our expertise ... until it doesn’t align with what’s convenient.

Shocking. Dd, who teaches preK in Houston, had a student test positive today so they are back to virtual--again. She got her first vaccine today, so there's that.

I feel so bad for all of you teachers. This just sucks.
My kid (grandson) is supposedly going back in person on 3/22. His dad’s choice, not mine, but he’ll be living with me.

Are you old enough for the vaccine where you are? I am! Just barely. And I’m already vaccinated. I lucked into it when my mom was getting hers. I’m more worried about the kid getting it, the teachers getting it, etc. I’d like to see all the teachers vaccinated before they have to go back. California is actually working on that now.

And this is why my kids still aren't going back when they open the building next month. They will remain virtual until September (when most of the population should be vaccinated by then).
Why anyone ever thought kids weren't spreading this, when the nickname for schools is literally "germ factory" is beyond me.

Who knew there was a competition for stupidest governor! So sorry you guys are having to deal with that. I wouldn’t work over spring break either! If the kids have to come into a room with boxes oh well!

Why anyone ever thought kids weren't spreading this, when the nickname for schools is literally "germ factory" is beyond me. That was a foregone conclusion for us. We decided at the beginning of the school year that our kid wouldn’t be going back to in person at all this year. Her friends that were doing hybrid had their first full week of full time in person school this week. The younger kids have been full time in person for a few weeks already, and one elementary school in our district had been completely shut down last month because of a high number of cases in the school community. I won’t be surprised if there are more cases of Covid in her school before spring break at the end of the month.

And they are pushing to open schools fully in many districts in my area. Sigh. Numbers are finally going down; it would have been nice if they stayed down.
