It has been a year since the Covid-19 came into all of our lives. I believe that many peas were fortunate enough that they could stock up on canned goods, rice, lysol wipes and many other dry goods.
PLEASE DONATE before your items expire to a food-bank or shelter or anyplace that you can think that would use these items.
DON'T WAIT until these goods expire, PLEASE!!! As you spring clean, any extras, simply put in a box & donate.
I have been cleaning out my pantry and have a few boxes of items that I purchased in the early pandemic days that I haven't needed. Even items like cough drops and un-opened medicine (cough, cold), dried lentils, rice, canned food that you bought & didn't use up.
There are people who are almost dying and children in great hunger due to the fact that they cannot afford groceries.

Great advice!
Just a tip--make sure you're not donating anything that is expired. I volunteered at the food bank shortly before the pandemic and we threw out a ton of food that was expired. They were very particular about what could be used. My group was sorting through donations from grocery stores and we threw away huge dumpsters of food. We also had to throw out all prepared or deli foods.

We have a small pantry, and little cabinet space, so I love to donate food! Sometimes I get a can of beans and didn't realize I already had one so off to the donation container! I like to only store what we have on our weekly meal plan, just to keep from getting overwhelmed with too much stuff. We have a good bin ready to go to the food bank!

Of course I found that out *after* I cleaned out my pantry and tossed a bunch.

and, dont be afraid to ask people you know- we buy extras and then clean out the cabinets and give them to a family we know that lives very paycheck to paycheck.
theyre incredibly grateful, things are rough sometimes

I don’t have any problem using “expired” canned food, but my food pantry won’t take it, either. I used to put it on Freecycle and it would get snapped up. Now my Freecycle is gone but I found a similar group on Facebook. Hopefully they’ll like “expired” food, too.

Their guidelines were canned goods up to 12 months past expiration. were acceptable, while food in glass containers were good for 6 months post expiration. So many are in need now and every little bit helps!

They cannot put expired food into the boxes they prepare to pass out at weekend pick-up events, but they put expired food on a special shelf at the food pantry. Anyone can walk in and take food from the expired shelf at no cost.

Thank you for the reminder. I cleaned out my shelves last night and now have a big box of non-expired food to take to the local food pantry. I bought canned goods and extra pasta to have on hand just in case. It's time for them to go fill some bellies.

Good advice. I need to get on that this week. Our neighborhood has a blessing box that I'd like to add to, also.
