The tea thread got me thinking about making iced tea at home. I have been going to sheetz for iced tea every day, but should probably make some at home too. I need to drink more unsweetened tea but when I make it it's awful! Any good brand/recipe recommendation?
Any other low calorie beverage ideas? I don't like to drink a lot of water, but am trying to stop drinking so much diet soda. I tried water with frozen fruit and it's pretty good.

If you select the Lipton family size bags, use 1 bag. If not, use 4 single cup size bags of tea. Get the water boiling--not just hot--boiling and pour over the bag, about 2 cups of water. Let it steep at least 5-8 minutes. Then pour into a 2 quart pitcher and add enough cold water to the pitcher to make a pitcher of tea.
If you like sugar in the tea, add the sugar to the hot tea before adding the remainder of the water. Stir well and then add the cold water to complete the pitcher of tea.

What library lady said. But I used to make sun tea. Get a large glass container, put in a handful of black tea bags, put it in the window or on a table where the sun shines through, or on your patio outside, and let the sun steep it. Take out the tea bags after it is dark enough. It is very good.

I make iced tea every single day. Sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. I love luzianne family sized tea bags. I put one bag in a cup of boiling water and then after 10 ish minutes, I add water. I make 2 quarts at a time because I like it really fresh.

We don't see the sun much in southwest PA, but it may be sunny this week, so I will try.

I think I have those tea bags. Got it last March when they closed the fountain drinks at Sheetz. I wonder if I should make one pitcher with only unsweetened and make on sweetened, then mix together in my cup? Or if I should just make one picture with half the sugar?

I only use lemon in my tea.

I use regular Lipton tea bags. I boil 4 cups of water and steep 6-7 bags for 10 minutes. Eight teabags if it’s decaf because it’s not as strong. I remove the bags but don’t squeeze them. I add 1/8 teaspoon baking soda (it makes it smoother). Then add 1/3-1/2 cup sugar and stir until dissolved. I put 4 cups cold water in a pitcher and then add the tea to it. I’d drink it all summer long if I wasn’t so sensitive to caffeine.

I'm kind of particular and I generally only like to use Trader Joe's Irish Breakfast tea bags, i set one on top of the ice in my tumbler and run hot water from the Keurig over it. They aren't individually wrapped and don't have strings or tags so there's little fuss. Fresh brewed every time! I don't use sugar, will occasionally use lemon slices.

I only use lemon in my tea. I feel like I would have to add less and less sweetened tea (or sugar) to get used to drinking it all unsweetened. That's what I want to do. I did that with coke back in college to start drinking diet coke. I will try lemon!

Yorkshire makes a really delicious iced tea, too. Very smooth and flavorful. Same brewing instructions as Lipton that I posted above.

To make a gallon of tea what I do is take four (4) Lipton decaf family size tea bags in a 2qt sauce pan. Bring the water to a hard boil for about 7 to 10 minutes. In the meantime get two (2) tea pitcher that are one (1) gallon each in size. Pour about 1.5 cups of sugar (or sugar substitute like Xylitol or Truvia) into the bottom of each pitcher. Take the pan from the stove, drain and remove the tea bags then pour 1/2 the mixture into one gallon picture and the remaining 1/2 mixture into the other gallon picture. Stir until the sugar dissolves then add ice and water.
If you want to add a little flavor to your tea throw in a peach or berry tea bag.
If I'm not making our own tea I will buy a gallon of Red Diamond Sweet tea and a gallon of Red Diamond Unsweet tea and divide them out between two pitchers. The Red Diamond Sweet tea is way too sweet to not drink diluted.

I posted on the other tea thread, but I brew my iced tea in a Mr. Coffee Iced Tea maker. I use two large Lipton bags and four Republic of Tea Mango Ceylon bags to fill the pitcher. Republic of Tea is available online, and also at World Market. You can also find it in some grocery stores. Anyway, for me, the flavor of the mango ceylon is better than sugar, but then I can't stand sweet tea.
Another option to switch over to unsweetened tea is to try a Starbucks black tea with no water but sub passion tea in place of the water. It's very fruity, so I don't care for 100 percent passion, but mixed with the black tea, it's delicious.

FYI--If you keep the tea in the refrigerator, put it in a closed container. Also, don't mix tea from one batch to another.

I drink at least 2 quarts of unsweetened iced tea every day. I boil half tap water, half bottled water. Remove from heat and add 2 family size tea bags. My favorite is actually Walmart brand, but I don’t shop there very often. I top it off with bottled water to make 2 quarts. If I just use bottled water, it doesn’t have enough *grit* to it. Half and half works the best for me. Nothing else added. And, as dark as I can get it. I squeeze the bags out into it, I read somewhere a long time ago to do that. So I do. I do not drink coffee. I also have tea bags in my purse - just in case. 😊

Love iced tea, love Sheetz (can only go when we travel), love Luzianne family size tea bags (I buy many boxes when I can find them, or have my daughter ship to me). I also use Paul Newman teabags for a strong tea.
My kids bought me an electric kettle for Christmas!

If you don't want to put sugar directly in your tea, you can make a simple syrup and add it to your tea by the glass. That allows you to control the sweetness of your tea.
All I do is bring a cup of water to a boil and add a cup of sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves. Then I let it cool and store it in a Mason jar in the fridge until I am ready to use it

No one has mentioned Tetley, but that's my favorite brand of tea bags to brew at home. I do it like librarylady said above.

I'm a sweet tea girl... Luzianne is a house favorite, however the store brand from Walmart or Harvey's (winn dixie) works in a pinch. We (husband and I) drink a gallon a day and make it just as fast. Lately he has been drinking more soda, so the tea is for me. Not gonna complain. You can also buy the tea bags with splenda added to them so it is sweet but low or no calorie... Once in a while i'll make that but have to be in the mood.

I use an electric iced tea maker that makes a 2-quart pitcher. My favorite tea is the Harney & Sons Fresh Brew Iced Tea. In addition to black tea, they also have some delicious fruit flavors. Very refreshing in summertime! I do not like sweet tea - no sugar for me!

You just pour unsweetened tea in a glass and add the syrup to your glass (the amount that you want)?

My favorite tea is Lipton strawberry and watermelon. It is an herbal tea. I use 2 tea bags and a 1/4 cup of sugar. It is a little hard to find but oh my, it is so good!
