When my DD left for college she was 4 hours from home with no HS friends at the University. She was very homesick and was surrounded by students who were all at the top of their class. It was a huge change for her and depression set in. Her sorority sister provided support and friendship when she really needed it. It's not for every one, but it helped her get through. Yes, that's what happened to DD. She told some of her sisters what a hard time she was having and how anxious and depressed she felt and they made sure that every time she passed a sister, they greeted her, hugged her, asked about her. Someone from the sorority saw DD everyday and made sure she was okay. I think part of the reason she decided to see a dr about the anxiety and depression this year was that she wanted to be able to do the same thing for this year's freshman class and she was afraid she would be too overwhelmed with the same feelings as last year to be effective.
