Did y'all hear about this? How horrible. www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2021/03/10/pioneer-woman-ree-drummond-nephew-critical-condition-after-crash/6948748002/From the article: Food Network star Ree Drummond's nephew is in critical condition following a crash involving her husband. According to a report provided by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred between two fire trucks, driven by Drummond's husband Ladd Drummond, 52, and her nephew Caleb Drummond, 21. Fox 23 and News On 6 report the men were responding to a fire at Drummond's ranch near Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The report says Caleb is in "critical condition" with head, arm, leg and other injuries and has been transported to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ladd refused treatment at the scene. The report cites "speed due to traffic conditions" as the cause of the collision. According to the document, the drivers' visibility was reduced as a result of high winds on the gravel road. The vehicles hit head on, with Caleb being ejected about 70 feet from point of rest. The USA TODAY Network has reached out to representatives of Drummond for comment. Another article said: OHP said due to high winds across grass and gravel, the two vehicles collided head-on and Caleb was ejected from the truck. The report said Caleb did not have his seatbelt on. It also said there was not a seatbelt equipped in Ladd's firetruck. Osage County Emergency Management Director Jerry Roberts said each vehicle only had one firefighter in it and they collided on each truck's driver side. He said the two firefighters are ranch employees. Osage Nation fire crews said more than 200 acres have been burned.

Whoa! No I didn't. I hope he makes a recovery and heals. How scary.
Why are vehicles made with no seat belts??!?! Gosh damn it.
I know they burn areas to help with new growth. But damn seat belts. SEAT BELTS.

SEAT BELTS. I doubt this was an intentional burn. Im not in her exact area, but close-ish, and our area is dry, dry, dry and the winds have been high this week. The news has been telling people to be careful about unintentional fires.

That’s very sad. I hope he makes a full and quick recovery. It must be terrifying for everyone involved, to have an accident while trying to fight the fires.

I just saw a post or an article from her this week about intentional burning and its benefits. Sounds like it could have been a story in real time. Praying for the families of all involved. What a tragic situation!
ETA: The post was made five days ago, but when you click the link, it's now broken with a PW header saying, "How embarrassing! We sincerely apologize, we couldn't find the page you were looking for."

Oh no... I pray he will be okay... I bet Ladd is beside himself... 😢😢😢 I keep thinking about this. Holy crap. I would be devastated to know I hurt someone else. Even if on accident. I also have been thinking about the struggle of knowing there was a fire burning and knowing my nephew was hurt. Obviously, you tend to the nephew and hope the fire doesn't spread, but wow. Thats a lot to deal with all at once.

How awful. I hope Caleb is okay. PW fans have watched him grow up. And how awful for all of them, the whole family.

Didn't their family lose a young nephew a few years ago? Not sure if it's the same side of the family but that must be intensifying all of their emotions right now.

Whoa! No I didn't. I hope he makes a recovery and heals. How scary. Why are vehicles made with no seat belts??!?! Gosh damn it. I know they burn areas to help with new growth. But damn seat belts. SEAT BELTS. This is my concern too. Especially a vehicle that will be traveling fast to an emergency! When my son was in school, I refused to let him go on the school bus on field trips because the bus never had seat belts. If I, as his mother, transported him in my car without a seatbelt, I would be ticketed. So I should allow a school bus to do so? I always took a day off work and drove him myself, returning to pick him up again.

How awful. I hope he recovers fully.
I wonder if not wearing/having seatbelts in firetrucks is common (at least in these farm situations) to help with getting in and out of the trucks quickly?

My coworker lost over 20’acres of hay yesterday due to fires. It got within 20 feet of his home.

I watched a news report that showed both trucks involved. Both trucks look almost like an old military tanker truck of some sort.
As for the seat belts, DH has been a firefighter for 29 years. Federal regulations (I can't recall the governing fire authority at the moment) have stated for at least that long that all fire apparatus must have seat belts.
*edited to add - The NFPA is the governing authority.

I’m so sad to hear this, watching Pioneer Woman on Food Network is one of my favourite things. Hoping so very much that Caleb fully recovers easily and quickly. All of the family must be frantically worried.

I’m In Indiana amd intentional burns happen but you can and will be fined for burning during high wind or drought.

I don't understand why they were both going opposite directions? Maybe one was going to get water while the other had water already? How awful

oh no, how terrible! Glad to hear Caleb is going to recover. I can't imagine how scary this news must have been for the family. Ladd is one of three brothers, one of them died at a young age due to a car accident, many years ago I think he was in his early 20's. So Caleb is the son of the other brother, wow.
