I know someone who is G'mama (like Guh-momma).
My daddy is called "grandpa Suzy" by the kids because he calls all little kids by the wrong name on purpose and with the the opposite gender (like my daughter is "Bill" and her cousin is "George"). My daughter called him grandpa Suzy and he was tickled pink that she was playing along with the joke. It caught on and stuck!

My sil had her granddaughter call her Mimsy because she thought she was too young to be called grandma.
When my niece's children were small they couldn't say Great-grandma. It came out Grandma Grape. They called my mother that for years.

DD calls my Dad Papa. It's quite normal for Maori kids in New Zealand to call their Grandfather either Papa or Koro. A friend's Mother became a Grandmother in her 40s. She refused to be a Grandmother before she turned 50, so made the kids call her Aunty Sue. It's stuck. She is in her 70s now and all her grandkids and great grandkids call her Aunty Sue.

I wanted to be called, "Memaw" until my first grandchild was about 20 months old and grabbed me by the checks and said, "Mawmaw...giberish...I couldn't understand another word she said. From than on I have been Mawmaw.
My mom wanted to be granny-granny because she is the great grandma. I told her it would be a long time before they are able to say that so we shortened it to Gigi = great grandma.

These are all pretty cute! My Mom is 'Grammie', but my Dad is 'Big Daddy'. We wanted DD1 to call my Dad 'Grandaddy', as I called mine, but it was just too much for her, so it came out as 'Big Daddy' and just stuck! This is pretty much the same that happened to us. Grandparents were already called Grandmama and Grandaddy by older cousins, but dd couldn't say that. She changed it too Me-mama and D-daddy and that name stuck with my 3 kids. The other cousins still use Grandmama and Grandaddy.

Our DD named my mother "Mimi" because that's all she could manage when trying to say grandma. It stuck. My dad became Papa by default so they are forevermore Mimi & Papa.

Our Grandson started out trying to say Grams and it was Gams - darn that 'r'! lol DH was Gumps instead of Grumps. Grumps stuck with him and now its Grams for me.
I called my mom's mom Granny Fanny - her name was Francis.

I, too, became a grandmother when I was 40. I had thought I might go by ZuZu, but settled on Grandma. I never felt that "I'm not old enough to be called Grandma" that others have mentioned. I mean, I still can't believe that I'm a grandmother, but I didn't mind being a Grandma. I said at the time that whatever they ended up calling me would be fine with me, but the first grandchild got the word Grandma down pretty easy. And then I ended up with a total of FIVE grandsons in less than 2.5 years! Yeah, that was unexpected! (My 2nd son's wife had the first & third, then my 1st son's wife had the second & fifth, while my 3rd son's ex-girlfriend had the 4th.) My daddy is called "grandpa Suzy" ... That's a funny story. Grandma Suzy is my official name, but none of them say the "Suzy" part. I'm the only Grandma they have because they call their other grandmothers different things. Two of my friends are called "Lolli." A mutual acquaintance chose that name for herself, and they liked it so much they are using it, too. My own mother was supposed to be Grandmama or Grandmother. But my son, her first grandchild, went through a phase early on where he called adults by their first names, because that's what he heard everyone else doing. My mother would say to him "No, not Jackie, Grandmother." So he started (age 2) calling her Jackie Grandmother and that's who she is to all her grandkids and great-grandkids and any other kids, now.

When my DS, who is the first grandchild on both sides, started talking he called my Mom Gaga and my Dad Boppa as toddler attempt at Grandma and Grandpa. It stuck!

When I was a child, both sets of grandparents were called Nanna and Poppa. In order to differentiate between them, the ones who had the dairy farm were called Moo Nanna and Moo Poppa.

We use Grandma Stepfather's name and Grandma's Former city of residence name. Both grandpas are now passed.
My mom is not thrilled about the Grandpa Deadhusband moniker. MIL is fine with hers.

My mom is boo boo gram - given to her by the oldest grandson when she hurt her back. My father is called boo boo pop, and together they are called "the boobs"! My mil is called narn by my ds. She wanted to be called nana, but my ds pronounced it nar nar, and then just narn.

I am not into "cutesy" names at all. Not for my kids, my husband, my dog. So here is my funny story!
I used to "complain" about all the crazy names for grandparents that we would see in the dance recital programs. The friends and families could pay to put a "note" in the program for a dancer. Often times grandparents did it. It looked like many names were what the kids called their grandpa before they could pronounce their grandparents "name" and they just kept it.
When I was reading them off to the kids (11, 15 and 17) last year, they decided to call me "Meemaw" since I said that sounded funny. They now call me "Meemaw" all the time! And they call me "Me" for short. My daughters boyfriend calls me "Me" too. They never call me mom now. Drives me crazy!

When three of my grandchildren were little they called their other grandma and me by our dog's name to tell us apart. She was grandma Babe. Had I'd known I wouldn't have named my chihuahua "Nacho".
Later I became G-ma. But my now14 year old will sometimes call me grandma Nacho.

My mom is called G-mom by her grandkids. She chose it because it's what my cousins called their grandmother, and she thought it was cute. My brother and I have always thought it was dumb.
I called my grandmother Grammie, and that's what I want to be called.

My mother and mil are both grandma. And when middle son was about 4 or 5 he named my mom white grandma (gray hair) and mil brown grandma. It really was so cute
My oldest couldn't say grandma so he called my mom Mammock. Not sure how he got that but that didn't last long
My good friend became a gma at 36 and was none to happy so she decided instead of gma she would be Boo
A girl dd grew up with when she became a mommy her parents are Lolly and Pop
I wish dh and I were more creative. We are Nana and papa

My granddaughter calls me Kiki. She came up with that on her own. Only thing I can figure out--my name is Vickie so that was as close as she could get. It stuck. When I pick her up from after school care, the kids say, Madison, your Kiki is here--cracks me up

The granddaughter calls me Mimi, the 2 year old grandson doesn't quite have his "m's" down yet, so he calls me Nene, rhymes with Mimi. Same grandson calls my SO, Bapaw instead of Papaw.
My sister's granddaughter calls her Muscles. We think it is hilarious! Don't know where it came from other than her name is Michelle and we think Chloe couldn't say Michelle so started calling her Muscles. Who knows? So now we all call her Muscles! Same child calls my parents Gate (great) granny and Gate(Great) pa pa.

My cousin's grandchildren call her Pie. After her granddaughter was born, my cousin would always tell her that she was cute as pie. So then her granddaughter on her own started to call her Pie.

My (adult) niece had a baby a couple months after I did, so my sister suddenly had a niece and a grandchild the same age. When both kids started to talk, the grandkid started to call her Moomah, and DD picked it up too. It was easier to just let them both call her that than to try to tell one kid to call her Grandma and the other kid to call her Auntie. My DD has no bio grandparents alive anymore, so several of our friends have graciously stepped into that role for her. One likes to be called Auntie Omi, most of the others go by Grandma (plus whatever their first name is), so Grandma Linda, etc. DD mispronounces it "Granda Linda", etc. and they just roll with it because they think it's cute. They all seem to really like having a "bonus" grandkid! When my mom was younger, we would jokingly call her Granny Fanny Nestlerode after a grandma puppet from Sesame Street. It drove her nuts! After a while we all just started calling her Granny and that's what stuck. On a related note, when DD started to talk, she called my brother "Unco Bubble" and we couldn't figure that one out to save our lives because his given name sounds nothing like "Bubble". Eventually we put it together that every time he would call me on my cell phone, DH would look at the phone and yell, "It's your brother!" so, Uncle Brother!

Before DD came along, my mom was grandma to my brother's miniature doxie. Somehow, she was given the name "Granna". Fast forward a few years and as a toddler, DD struggled with saying Granna so my mom quickly became "Ghee", like the type of butter. And DH's mom wanted to be called "Abuelita". That title suffered the same fate as Granna... DH's mom is now "Wita" (pronounced "Wee-tuh").

My sister is PAWMAW-- a mispronunciation, by the first grandchild, that stuck. The father of a childhood friend is now known as "Bebop" for the same reason. My cousins kids call their grandma "Great-mama"

My daughter's boyfriend calls his grandma Goby (sounds like Gob like in Gobstoppers candy, plus the y.)
My cousin called her other grandma Poopy.

My friend's son calls his grandmother "FranMa" instead of Grandma. Her first name is Frances.
Stepdd is expecting in January and DH thinks we should be GrandMama and Grandpapa...prounounced like Endora on the old Bewitched TV show.
