My mom wanted to be called 'mammoo'. Which rhymes with SHAMMOO, the whale in a movie.
Do you know a grandma with a cute nickname?

My exMIL was a teen mom so when we had our first baby, she was only 40. She joked and joked that she was too young to be called grandma. So one day we were over there when my DD was just learning to talk and she kept referring to herself jokingly as Beautiful Cynthia. The name totally stuck and since then she has been known to her grandkids as Beautiful Cynthia.

I am GiGi..Became a grandma at 37 so I felt I was too young to be called Grandma. I love being a Gigi.
When I worked at a daycare center, I had a little boy who called his grandma... Pathow. They have no idea how he came up with Pathow..they think he may have been trying to say Grandmother and it came out Pathow. But somehow it stuck. I thought it was cute.

I grew up with kids who called their grandmother "GG" - short for "gorgeous granny." It was cute.

Awww, I LOVE the Beautiful Cynthia!
We're very unoriginal here. My MIL is Grandma, FIL is Grandpa, and my mom is Grandma Gloria.

Mine call me Tutu. In Hawaiian "grandmother" is tutuwahine which little kids shorten to "tutu" In Hawaii it was a very normal name. In other states, not so much.

These are all pretty cute! My Mom is 'Grammie', but my Dad is 'Big Daddy'. We wanted DD1 to call my Dad 'Grandaddy', as I called mine, but it was just too much for her, so it came out as 'Big Daddy' and just stuck!

I want my hypothetical future children to call my mom "GG" because those are her initials. And she's too fabulous to be just "grandma."

To my DD's kids I am Nanny, or Nana. To my DS's kids, I am Nina, pronounced Neena. (Just what they said when trying to say Nana.) My sister became a Grandma almost a year ago and she is now a Nina because that's what she wanted to be called. If I had thought of it sooner I would have been called Lena. It was my Gr.Grandma's name and my first name ends in leen.

We call our boydog Mammoo. He's a big black Pit Bull. I'm sure your mother looks nothing like him, but it tickled me that they have the same nickname. LOL

When my grand daughter was very young she out of the blue called me Yaya. My three grand children are related by marriage and since I didn't want to take away the "grandma" title from the blood related grand mothers, Yaya has stuck. It wasn't until a few years later that I learned Yaya is a term used by Greeks...which we are not. I love my Yaya title

I was a grandmother at 40 and I can tell you, I did NOT feel like a Grandma. I am ever so thankful that when my grandson started talking his form of "Grandma" came out as "Gia". That stuck and I LOVE it. He's almost 15 now and has shortened it to Gi, but I'm also very OK with that. I have a girlfriend whose grandkids call her RG (for Real Grandma, although they don't know that ), as opposed to their step-grandma, who is not a very nice person at all.

One of my friends is 'Mumsey' - so cute! My sister is called Nodder - we think her first grandchild started that when she kept introducing her as my 'granddaughter' and she got confused.

I call my grandma "Nonnie" and dd calls her grandma (my mom) "Gan-Gan." My mom always said she wanted to see what dd would come up with by herself and when she tried to say Grandma, it just came out as Gan-Gan and that's what stuck!

If I had thought of it sooner I would have been called Lena. It was my Gr.Grandma's name and my first name ends in leen. Due to a family joke I wanted to use "Lola" which is used in the Philippines. But, my grandmother who is still living, her given name is Lola. I wasn't sure if she would be offended to know her name means grandma or not but I do know it would have caused a lot of confusion so I chose tutu instead.

My husband and his cousins all called their grandmother 'Mother.' Their mothers were called Mom or Mommy (even grown kids called their mom's 'Mommy.) I asked why they called her 'mother' and he said the oldest cousin was born when her mom was 14, so hearing her call her own mom 'mother' she just picked it up and that was that.
My son used to call my mom NiNi but he stopped after he go old enough to say Grandma. But I thought it was cute.
Does anyone remember that scrapbook paper by Flair with the different names for Grandmother all over it? Memaw, Oma, Nanny, Grannie, Grammy....

I've heard both "Gigi" and "Mimi" used by others. I also knew one little girl who called her mother "Mommy" and her grandmother "Mama". My son calls my mother "Nanny". Not to be confused with Nana, Nonna, or Nonni, but the actual term for a live-in child care provider.

Another Mimi here...my first grandson called me Grammy, but his younger brother came along and decided I was Mimi so Mimi it is. We all tried to get him to say Grammy but he didn't want any part of that...my dd is pregnant with [HASH]3 so I'm anxious to see if he's going to come up with his own name for me or if Mimi will rub off on him.

My oldest brother couldn't pronounce Grandma, so she was GoGee (2 hard G sounds) for a little while while, but just until he could pronounce Grandma the right way.
She's long gone, but my mom still lovingly refers to her as GoGee.
