Well according to our former twice impeached president, Covid is just a case of the flu. (sarcasm)

I know very many people that don't have the seasonal flu jab, particularly among my age group but they are all going to have the Covid jab when it's their turn.
In fact the uptake in the UK has been far higher than the usual approx 75% that take the flu jab particularly in the older population. In some age groups the Covid jab has been as high as 90%

My DH has rarely gotten a flu shot, mainly as he wouldn't take time off work to go to the doctor to get it. He's started getting it in the past few years, as his workplace has offered it onsite. He will definitely be getting the Covid shot - with me being in a high risk category due to medical issues, he sees it as protecting me as well as him.

I've only had the flu shot once before but this year I got it because the NHS was so stretched dealing with Covid and I didn't want to add to that burden should I have come down with a bad case of flu. Had my first AZ jab yesterday.

Hopefully, one of the upsides of this pandemic will be that folks realize vaccines aren't just about them but serve to protect others. For everyone who has ever declined a flu shot because "hey, I've never had the flu," thank someone you know who stepped up.

I don’t view them in the same category. To me, the Covid vaccine is in the same category as measles, mumps, diphtheria, polio, etc. The effectiveness of the Covid vaccine seems similar to those while the flu vaccine frequently has around a 50 % efficacy. Because I have a history of moderate reactions to vaccines, my doctor has said 100% yes to a Covid vaccine and no to the flu vaccine.
Also remember that you should not have another vaccine within 2 weeks of receiving a Covid vaccine. It could increase the chances of a reaction and most importantly, muddle the data for the Covid vaccine.

For everyone who has ever declined a flu shot because "hey, I've never had the flu," thank someone you know who stepped up. I appreciate you saying this. I was always that person never getting the flu shot because I never had the flu and I rarely get sick at all. I did this year, like @gar, because our healthcare system was overwhelmed and I didn’t want this to be the year I ended up with the flu. I see it differently now.

My flu shot record is very spotty. But I will definitely get the covid vaccine. Same. Already had shot one of Pfizer. Same and same. My flu shot record was spotty until one year (2016 maybe?) I didn't get one and then I got the flu and I was absolutely miserable. Never again said I and I have been faithful to the flu shot ever since, even last year in the middle of the pandemic. I also got my first Pfizer jab last week

I have had a flu shot and my first Covid shot. I have skipped flu shots in the past, but there was no way that I would skip the Covid vaccine. The after-effects from Covid can be devastating.

I am ashamed to admit that until a few years ago, I had never heard of herd immunity. Now that I know, I intend to get the flu shot every year.

Flu shot every year, now getting the high dose one. Have gotten Pfizer #1 and #2.
This year the flu numbers are very low. MASKS!! Last I saw only ONE child death, about 29,000 adult deaths.
MASKS do make a difference.

This is exactly what I love to hear: it’s not just about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting others also. The refusers are getting the benefit of those who get vaccinated, whilst reducing the overall efficiency of the vaccine by reducing the percentage of the population covered.

This was the first year in a long time where I didn't get the flu shot. The only reason why was because it was drive through at work and I was crazy busy both offerings and couldn't take the hour or 2 out of my work day. I usually get it, mainly because I work in a shotgun snack of cubicles with people who have small and school-age germ factories I mean children and my son and I are prone to rapidly developing bronchitis (plus he has asthma). I could have gotten it elsewhere but decided that all the protocols taken outweighed the risk of being around sick people at the pharmacy.
I did get the covid vaccine recently (not through work, which hasn't opened it up to remote workers yet).

Never get the flu shot just based on pure negligence. Will absolutely get the COVID vaccine when eligible.

I have never taken a regular flu shot but I will get the Covid-19 vaccine and am anxiously waiting for my turn. Reason: I've never had the regular "flu" and the efficacy of the regular flu shot is, usually, pretty low (and occasionally they miss the proper strain totally). Further the "lethality" of regular flu is very low. The Covid-19 vaccine is highly efficacious and the lethality is a significantly greater risk. It is like small pox - contagious and deadly -- we all got shots!

I started getting flu shots two years ago. Over 20 years ago, I got sick after a flu shot and that was enough to make me skip them. I know the flu shot doesn't make you sick, but since I didn't often get sick, it was easy to skip. Now as I get older and know the flu can more easily take me out, I decided to get it. It makes me feel a bit better getting it.

I never get flu shots and I have never had the flu. I may have had it once when I was a kid as I remember having a high fever once at around ten years old. I did get the flu shot this year and have had my first Covid shot.

I get the flu shot annually, and have for years. My asthma specialist prefers it. Fine with me.
I'm waiting impatiently for the C19 vaccine.
My Dad has never had a flu shot, but my Mom always does. She insisted on one this year for him. They also got the Shingles and Pneumonia vaccine. And they just got their 2nd C19 last week. My mom meant business this year! 🤣

I have received a flu shot for the last 5 or so years, due to health conditions. Thankfully, I was able to convince my husband and adult son to get a flu shot this year. The Boy was on board quickly due to the situation with COVID. DH waffled and, quite frankly, I demanded he get one in the end.
DH signed up for the COVID vaccine before I did. The Boy may have put himself on the list, too. We have discussed this, so I know he intends to get the vaccine.
Honestly, I am afraid of the effects of the vaccine. But, it’s not just this vaccine. First, I pay dearly for things due to the damn Fibromyalgia. Recovery from the vaccine, if I have bad side effects recovery will take longer. It’s a fact based on my history with Fibro. Second, a helpful injection given to me for endometriosis is the cause of the Fibromyalgia. Took 12 years for that side effect to be disclosed. So, yes, I am fearful of this vaccine. However, I will show up and take both shots regardless.
