I was supposed to have a package delivered yesterday via USPS. It said it was out on the truck for delivery yesterday but never arrived. I checked this morning and it said the delivery was attempted at 7:30 last night but that they could not access my home. This is not a package I need to sign for. It's just a pair of shoes. This is absolutely the weirdest thing. First of all, Jeremy and I were out in my driveway at 7:30 last night cleaning my car because I am thinking I'm buying a new one today. We wanted to make sure and clean the old car before we turn it in. Second, I live in an urban neighborhood and I have a front porch where deliveries are usually made. Half my neighborhood was outside last night enjoying the nice weather. Kids playing everywhere. People sitting on front porches. Surely I would have noticed if someone had attempted to deliver a package.
I am thinking this was an absolute lie about being unable to deliver my package. USPS website says they will make another attempt today but now I'm worried about some bullshit and that I might have to wait until tomorrow and pick it up at the post office.
Anyway, I have never had a message like this before. And I'm doubting it is even true.

I think they just pick something when they have too many to deliver. I've had similar notes. I always get my package in the next day.
I just had a FedEx package say it was out for delivery. It didn't come and the update said it was 2 towns north of me with delivery date unavailable. The next day it was at another facility 30 miles away. It came on day 3, delivered by a person not in a FedEx uniform, driving a pick up truck.

Yes, it’s a well known lie and so frustrating. I’m guessing either they weren’t approved for overtime when all packages had not been delivered or they missed it on the truck and found it when they returned to the PO. It’s almost always delivered the next day.

Anyway, I have never had a message like this before. And I'm doubting it is even true. Oh yes, it was a total lie. The mail carriers just make stuff up, probably to justify to the powers-that-be that they're doing their job. Doing it pretty poorly, at least around here. The sister-lie to this one is the one that says a package was actually delivered, when clearly it was not. It's still on the truck because the mail carrier was too lazy to finish the route. The package will most likely show up in the next day or two, but not always. My ds had your lie at xmas time...I sent something large from Amazon (a cat tree) and the post office down there said "delivery attempted, no one at residence". um... it was the middle of a pandemic, someone is always "at residence". Then when he called about it they switched lies to say "oh we can't deliver something that weighs more than 70 pounds"... So he said "oh good, then since this one only weighs 52 pounds I'll expect it tomorrow." Ds said if they'd only said "it's pretty heavy and our carrier is older/younger/frail/whatever" he would have gladly gone to the PO to pick it up himself. But after lying twice about it he said forget that, let them do their job and get it out to him all on their own. eta: And before anyone jumps on me to criticize my comment about "lazy" PO workers... you should see what gets delivered around my neighborhood. We get SO much mail for other people up and down our block, as well as stuff for people farther away. Just this morning when I went out to walk my dog I found an envelope that looks like it's from some inventment/financial type place (real mail, first class) lying on my grass, along with about 100 rubber bands. Not kidding about that....we'll have enough rubber bands to last for the next few years. The letter isn't for an immediate neighbor so I can't go deliver it myself which is what we all usually do. And the other thing about this letter is that it isn't even on our route... which means that first it was sorted wrong, or it got stuck in something. Then it got picked up again by the carrier and sorted into his bag. And then he HAD to have looked at it because somewhere along the way surely the carrier double checks what's in his hands...? And THEN he just carelessly dropped it. I'm sending an Easter box down to Georgia and it's going UPS. I'm never sending packages through USPS again, at least not until -- if -- they get their act together.

There should be something to select that isn't a fabrication. I double checked my address was correct and everything thinking I had done something to prevent my package from being delivered. But the worst part, IMO, is that we were right in the driveway at 7:30. We would have seen someone attempt to deliver.

That message and the same as "delivered" but it's not been delivered are pretty normal when they can't finish, for whatever reason. I had this pre-Covid, too. eta: And before anyone jumps on me to criticize my comment about "lazy" PO workers... you should see what gets delivered around my neighborhood. I'm never sending packages through USPS again, at least not until -- if -- they get their act together. My Mom has watched her USPS carrier in their community mailbox area, just leave stuff. She even told her that the other property manager used to sort the mail and put it in the mailboxes FOR HER. Part of the problem is that they're outsourcing locations, too, so it's not even a "real" USPS person delivering. My Mom has contacted the Post Master General, etc, but still unreliable.

That happens to us every few weeks. If the mail carrier forgets a package or it won’t fit in the mailbox and she doesn’t feel like driving down the driveway it gets marked as “no access.” The time stamp was probably the time they finished the route, not the time they were at your house. Now I have probably jinxed myself as I am expecting something this week that I’m really excited about.

If you’ve ever looked at the USPS Reddit, it’s pretty much this reason.

But admitting the truth (when you don’t have a truthful option to select) is the problem. And they look incompetent anyway, when people know there were home, and see a reason like that.

This is what I'm talking about. I ordered from a store I've never ordered from before. So immediately I went looking to make sure I had put the correct address on my order, etc. This message made me question whether I had made a mistake.

That's what makes me mad about stuff like this-you start questioning whether or not you made an error. I was supposed to get a box delivered from CA, and it didn't come, didn't come...finally I opened a case with the PO and they said to contact the sender as it was sitting in CA still and that the sender had probably made an error with the shipping or the label. I reached out to the sender, and she filed a report and literally that package showed up on my doorstep the.next.day. Ummmmm, no it was not sitting in CA, it was right here the whole time and for reasons unbeknownst to me they just did not deliver it. Edited to add, that after it got delivered I could see exactly when it made it to my state and it was well before we filed reports.

I've had that happen not too long ago, and I knew it wasn't true because we were both here all day and my dog certainly would have told me if someone had come to the door. It's happened a couple times in the past as well.
But the package showed up the next day.
I think they just use that when they can't get to everything in one day. I don't stress until a couple days have passed.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. The USPS website has a notification on it that I need to take action to reschedule the delivery. Of course, it won't accept the information I enter on the online form. Plus, it states they left a notice, which they most certainly did not, so I can't even go to the post office to pick it up. Mail already came today and it still didn't arrive. Frustrating.

There DOES need to be an option for them to say something like "didn't get to this, will deliver at a later date..." because the other messages /reasons make you think you need to go looking for the item, or it's been stolen-- at least knowing the carrier still has it would relieve that worry.
I had to sign for a blouse and some twinkle lights at the post office the other day. I guess the seller requested that? The items were not special or custom or expensive.

My cousin sent some information on a cd from Missouri to me in California. It arrived almost one year to the day from when she sent it and it was soaking wet, dripping wet. Mystery. The cd was ruined.

This has been happening to me quite frequently since before Christmas, and it's infuriating! The worst are when Amazon hands my package off to the USPS for delivery. Most recent example: order a hummingbird feeder last Wed. and was told Friday delivery. Friday I get tracking update from Amazon saying my package would be delivered that afternoon. Absolutely no mention of USPS anywhere in my order information. About 7:30 Fri night I get an update from Amazon saying there was a problem with my delivery and they would attempt delivery next day.
Followed up on that last update and it said "Attempted Delivery. Unable to access Location". I live in a house, with no fences/gates, as well as a Ring doorbell, and someone was home all day Friday. There were no attempts to deliver that package. Nothing showed up on Saturday either. Then Sunday afternoon, a USPS truck pulls up and drops the package on the doorstep. Again, not a single notice anywhere on my Amazon order that it had been handed off to the USPS. It's really annoying that they don't tell you up front that they are going to hand it off. Of course if they did, I'd probably order it elsewhere.

Half the time that I send a package to my sil I get the same message. It's really irritating. She always receives her package the next day. How annoying. I hope you get your package and your new car today. Do the shoes match the car? hehe.

What's really fun is when you get the "they attempted delivery and couldn't deliver" and they're delivering it to a PO Box AT THE POST OFFICE! They couldn't deliver to the post office???
