I assume it has to do with some stupid Microsoft update, but I am trying to make a birthday card for my DH who is in the hospital recovering from a widow maker heart attack that should have killed him. I should have been working on this ahead of time, but I’ve been spending my days at the hospital and come home exhausted. Days are a blur, and it snuck up on me.
I was going to use one of the SVG designs that I’ve bought. I haven’t cut one in awhile, but I have never had an issue before.
Every single SVG file is suddenly a Microsoft Edge file. I tried opening it in the Silhouette software, but it opens differently.
While the outlines show up, all the dashed/fold lines are missing. I thought the dashed lines were just hidden behind the black fill, but when I remove the fill, there seems to be nothing there. I thought they might show up when I sent it for cutting. Nope.
I need to get to the hospital. It’s his birthday, and it’s got to be the worst birthday for him on record. I don’t have time to add the cut lines or spend too much time on this, but I wanted something special. I am really upset.
I’m getting in the shower and hoping there will be some help/suggestions (quick and easy, hopefully) by the time I’m done. I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
Please, please, please!

I don't have any advice about the cut files, but just wanted to say (((hugs))) and to take care of yourself too! I am sure your DH knows how much you care and will be happy with any beautiful card you make him! (I have seen your cards so I know they are all amazing!) Wish him a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY from all of us here and sincere hope that he feels better very soon!

so sorry about your husband and hope his recovery goes well. I don't know for sure if this will work, but you can look. Go into control panel and get to default programs. Hopefully in there you can associate SVG's (file type) with Silhouette again? Sorry I don't have specifics, but in there somewhere is where you should be able to change it back.

Oh no, sorry about your DH, and hoping for a good recovery.
Maybe if you go into your list of files and change the name back to .svg, then try to open again in Silhouette. Good luck!

Thank you for the kind words and well wishes. His prognosis is good, and he is improving. It may be slower than I’d hoped, but he is making progress. He had a lower lumbaf spinal fusion in December. The doctors told me he could easily have died then. He should have died when he had the heart attack, so I feel very grateful to still have him.
I tried the link. Between it and a link that I found online, I was able to change which program opens svg files, and get rid of the Microsoft edge issue.
Unfortunately, the dashed lines still don’t come through, and I quickly realized that it was taking too long to add them. He’ll have to wait for his card till tomorrow. His present won’t arrive before then, anyway.

Sorry, I can't help you with this technical matter (no electronic die-cutting machine here) but I want to wish your husband well and a happy birthday even if it's from a hospital bed. I hope he can come home and get a "very merry unbirthday" cake to celebrate with you soon(ish)!

It will be the BEST birthday ever, as he is here to experience it. I hope he makes a speedy recover. Giant hugs to you, scrapnnana . This is a very stressful time for you, so take good care of yourself. Forget the card and just go be with him. Wish him a belated birthday from me, as we share a birth date!

If you right click on your file and go down to "Open with..." you can select the application to open the files. But if you go down to "Choose another app," a box should pop up and you can find the right application and tell it to "Always use this app to open .svg files". I hope that helps!
I wish your DH a quick recovery!

How is your dh today, scrapnnana? Hoping he is making a steady recovery. I know he will be happy with his card when you are able to finish it for him. Hope the advice you received was helpful, cuz I have no idea what to do in that situation. I might have just cut the outline and then used the images on the computer screen to place the folds

Thank you, everyone. I appreciate your support and kindness. When DH had surgery in December, he had some odd complications that seem to be happening again. The cardiologist is one of the best in the area, and possibly the best, but he is puzzled as to the cause. For those of you who pray, I would appreciate your prayers for DH’s recovery and for those treating him to be able to figure out what is causing the odd complications.
Although the suggestions did not completely resolve the SVG file issues, they did fix some of them. The dashed cutting lines still did not show up when I copied the file to a new project page in Silhouette, but it occurred to me to do a trace of the SVG. They did show up then, so I copied the traced file instead and pasted it into a new project page. The SVG seems to come in to the software extra small, so to cut it, I needed to copy, paste, and move it to the spot that I need, because the copy comes in at the right size for cutting. It’s weird, and I really hate whatever Microsoft update did this.
Again, thank you, everyone.
