We are looking for a second home. For those of you that have something like this do you have a home security system? If so what do you have? Likes/dislikes?
Sliding glass door locks--what do you use for extra security for these doors? A lot of homes we've looked at have sliders.
Any links will certainly help!
Thanks!

I have this on my slider link. It can be installed on the top or the bottom of the door.

We did the rod in the slider when we had that type of doors - the spring shower curtain rods work great and come in tons and tons of colors to match whatever you have.

For home security I use Xfinity since that's who I have internet cable with. I've not had any issues except one - one of the window monitors stopped working probably 8 months in. They replaced no charge.
My parents use ADP and are quiet happy with them.
I use a thick wood dowel for my slider.

As several have already stated....my husband cut the handle off of a wooden broom to fit snug in the bottom track between the door that opens and the door frame. We just lift it out when we want to open the slider which is most mornings.

Just a dowel cut to size is a really inexpensive lock, but I've always felt that glass sliding doors and a rock were always the easiest way to break into a house. I've never liked them.

We have 2 patio doors that have been replaced/installed in the past 8 years. They both have a security lock at the bottom. One thing I recommend if you get a security system is to have a glass break alarm installed near the door. That way if the glass shatters it will trigger the alarm. We do use a security company that is local to our area. Also, we have a Nest camera and Ring cameras that are turned on while we are away.

Thanks ladies!
I have heard....heard.....that the post in the door is ok, but can be removed and the door actually be taken out to gain entry.
I'll share your wisdom with my husband!
