What kind of bread do you use to make French toast? Just curious what the best kind is! Thanks!

Usually just plain white sandwich bread, since I usually have that on hand, but if I plan ahead, I prefer Challah

Texas Toast white bread. It's a very thickly sliced white bread.

Texas toast for regular French toast. Usually homemade Challah for stuffed French toast.

Except for special occasions, I tend to make things based on what I have on hand, and what stage those items are in. For example, I make PB&J, or turkey or tomato, sandwiches with fresh white bread because that tastes best. If I have bread that is getting harder I would toast it for egg salad or BLT, or I would make French toast. So to answer your question, whatever older bread I have on hand. My favorite is challah, especially if it is a stuffed French toast.

Whatever we have leftover that needs to be used up. If we're buying bread for french toast specifically I usually get a vanilla brioche.

I'm super picky about my French toast and only like it with whole wheat bread. The rest of my family likes sourdough.

DH makes the French Toast in our family. He always uses white sandwich bread and lots of butter. Frankly, I think the amount of butter matters more than the bread.

Challah and Brioche are my favorites, though for regular day French toast, I like potato bread.

I get a french loaf at the gas station in the town nearest me. They also have very good fried chicken. How to say I live in the country! LOL The other gas station has the best pizza.

Brioche and nothing but brioche!
Since I cannot have it, I’ve tried a gluten free bread. Nope.

Very stale French bread. It’s whi grew up with in south Louisiana Acadians, freanch Louisiana. We called it pan Perdue. My mom would slice it diagonally, 3/4 “ wide, placed on a clean dish towel to make it even more stale. Made with double the amount of eggs most people use in the recipes. Thick cream and plenty of vanilla. Topped with Steens syrup. So good. I still make it that way.!

Challah or brioche are my favorites, but DH likes regular honey wheat sandwich bread. ETA: I pretty much like all French toast, though so I don't think I'd turn it down unless it was made from rye or pumpernickel or some such.
