Has anyone been on one? If you have been where did you go.
This is our bucket list trip and we are in the process of selling our house and this is the what we are going to do to treat ourselves for all the hard work we have done.

I have been to Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. For a first trip I would probably to Kenya or Tanzania to make sure you see the great migration. I have travelled with both overseas adventure travel & Abercrombie and Kent abd both were great. Just try to pick a trip and company that will try to get you closest to the migration when you go. I did also love Botswana. So beautiful in the Okavango delta.

My aunt and uncle just got back from Masai Mara, Kenya. They go at least once a year. She is a photographer so she goes on a lot of photography trips. She LOVES it! It's her second home.

I have also been to Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. I think the time of year you plan to travel factors into it somewhat, but generally I would recommend Tanzania (and probably also Kenya, since the parks system there crosses the border) as a first or only safari. In my experience, the wildlife is quite similar, but I think the scenery of East Africa is more stunning. The Ngorongoro Crater is just breathtaking.

We've done two trips - one was to Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia and one to Kenya and Tanzania. I would actually recommend Botswana - with add-ons if you have the time over Kenya and Tanzania. I really, really loved Botswana and saw such a diverse cross section of animals and the camps are remote and it was wonderful. The great migration is cool - but at a certain point how many wildebeest do you need to see?

We had a visit to Kruger National Park in South Africa; stayed at a place called Sausage Tree Safari Camp.
It was my favorite vacation EVER. I cannot wait to go back.
We were able to visit Cape Town as well.
Have fun!

Do it! I was there in 2018 and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. We are headed back this summer to do the safari thing. We decided to limit ourselves to Tanzania as travel between the African countries are complicated with cover right now. We are spending 3 weeks and doing the famous parts - Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, but also mixing in southern areas such as Selous, Udzungwa Mountains National Park, and Ruaha. We wanted to mix up walking, jeep, water, and hot air balloon safaris. We are fly camping in Southern Africa for a few days and doing lots of hiking. We have worked with Kensington Tours to arrange for a private guide and to set our own itinerary. We head out this summer. Can't wait!!!
Plans are to do other parts of Africa over the next few years as well. Each region/country offers different experiences.

It was a very ,very long time ago (1978) but I went to Kenya in the Masai Mara reservation, we sleep under a tent A very fancy tent with real beds and ceramic toilet , the food was delicious. Monkeys were jumping on the tent it was amazing ,I have very fond memories of that trip .

I am going to Kenya next May with my daughter for her 40th birthday. We're doing a 10 day safari that includes meals, airfare, transfers and a bunch of other stuff. I can't wait.

A friend of mine went alone to be with elephants. She had her own guides and support staff but several nights she and a group overnighted in the same spot.

I was there about 5-6 years ago. We went to Tanzania because I feel their conservation efforts are much greater than South Africa. Botswana is next on my list but not for a long time. We flew in to Nairobi which meant we needed Yellow Fever vaccine and then caught a commuter to Arusha. We had 2 nights in Tarangire (Elephant heaven!), a full day in Lake Manyara (they sell it as the place to see tree-climbing lions but you can see those in the Serengeti also), I think 4 nights in the Serengeti and 2 nights at the Crater. Tarangire and the Serengeti were camps. One of them in Serengeti was a mobile camp that followed the animals so it was a little more rustic. The other one is the most luxurious room I have ever slept in. I would not call it a camp except it had canvas walls! The migration was 2 weeks early that year and we had missed them at the camps. So we took a day drive to the river to catch up to them there. It was amazing. While researching, also consider a private guide. We went with Roy's Safaris and it was just my ex and I in the truck. We were able to stay as long as we wanted at spots because the guide only had to please us. We stayed so long at one point watching a troop of baboons that he took a little nap. Pricing was actually less using this option than a group would have been. We were given choices of lodging with different price points so we could get exactly what we wanted. Here's my SmugMug site with my favorite photos. I have over 200 that are true keepers but SmugMug only lets my post 48.
