Anyone wanna tell me how bad it's gonna be? Just found out today that I need one and I'm terrified of needles, but my elbow hurts so bad I'm gonna give it a shot. Lol

It hurts! The needle is thick, and they are inserting into an already painful area. Did I say it hurts? I have done it, didn't help, and ended up having surgery (which helped). And yeah, it hurts.

Depends upon how much pain you are already in. I had one in my shoulder and it wasn't very painful because I was already in a shit ton of pain. The doctor numbed the area first with a lidocaine spray, so I didn't feel the needle. I felt pressure as the cortisone was injected. Supposedly, your elbow pain will get significantly worse for a few days, then start to feel better. Like I said, I was already in so much pain that the cortison didn't add anymore pain.

I had it done and it wasn't too bad. My doctor first injected the area with lidocaine. That normally burns because it is acidic but right before he injected it he drew some sodium bicarbonate solution into the syringe. That neutralized the acid in the lidcaine so it did not burn. Then when he did the cortisone shot I felt nothing other than a little pressure. I had been dreading the shot because I heard how painful it was but I didn't find it too bad. I haven't had any trouble with my elbow since.

It sounds painful for sure. I don't know how much though. I hope it isn't too bad and is successful for you.

My husband has had it done more than once, he said it hurts like crazy, but his elbow hurts all the time anyway. He need an elbow replacement but the doctors don't want to do it until he is 50, he is just 44. I don't think his arm is going to hold out that long.

Can I ask why you needed one in your elbow? I have been having elbow pain. I went to the dr and they prescribed an anti-inflammatory for two weeks and a brace. I felt better while on the meds, but not really cured. I go back tomorrow for a re-check because it's really been bothering me again. They said I had the equivalent of tennis elbow (from typing on my laptop at a bad angle.) Just trying to figure out what the possible next steps are for me.
I have only had a cortisone shot in my foot for PF. It wasn't the most comfortable thing, but I felt so much better after, it was well worth the pain.

We'll first let me preface this with the fact that I've been a hairdresser for 24 years. But I fell off a ladder in April. It has hurt bad since then. I went to chiropractor first because I knew they would X-ray and hopefully just "Pop" it back in place. We'll now it's been nine weeks and it's not any better. Went to regular dr and they did more X-rays and decided it was tendinitis. Yuck!!!

A few months ago I got one in each of my knees. I was terrified after hearing horror stories about how much they hurt. I can honestly tell you it didn't hurt much at all. The benefits have been beyond incredible. Not sure if the shoulder area would hurt more.

My husband gets cortizone shots in both shoulders every three-four months and has for three or four years now. He says it doesn't hurt any more than any other shot, and that the relief is very quick.

I had one today...a steriod shot, but not cortisone (can't remember what he called it.) It hurt like the dickens for the minute it took for him to give me the shot and then he sort of massaged it all around. It's OK now, he said it would likely be tender over the next couple of days and then feel pretty darn good.

I had it over a year ago. At the time I was in so much pain that the thought of getting some relief subdued my fears of the pain that I'd feel with the shot. I knew nothing about the cortisone shot only that I associated it with how painful it was. Obviously it hurt, but did not find it to be that bad. Honestly, I guess the location and your pain tolerance make it different in everyone, but just don't look, and breathe.
Btw-I had calcified tendonitis in my right elbow (could not cut food, brush/dry my hair, etc...)it felt a thousand time better by the end of the day and completely better within a few days. It was the best thing I did.

I had one in my shoulder and don't remember it hurting all that much. It didn't fix my problem but mine was torn.

I had my shot today. It didn't hurt as bad as I expected but did hurt. I've kept ice on it off and on since I got home. I really hope it takes my pain away. The dr said it would take a couple days for it to feel better.
The dr described it like a grenade. The shot goes in one spot and "explodes" thru out the joint. Not the best description for someone who is scared of needles.

I get them in my right knee. The first time he told me I needed them I started crying because everyone kept telling me that it hurts so much and some people told me it didn't help and actually made the pain worse. I was so upset. I wanted him to do surgery that's how afraid I was that the pain would get worse from the shot. He didn't feel I needed surgery so I went with the shot and found out it didn't hurt at all and helped so much I wish I had done it sooner.
I hope it works for you and I'm glad it didn't hurt as much as you thought

Numbing medicine has worn off. I feel like such a wimp right now. I don't remember childbirth hurting this bad. It feels like someone hit my elbow with a sledge hammer.
