What is your high school son wearing to prom? Tuxedo? Suit? DS decided at the very last minute that he's going to prom. I'm thinking about buying a nice suit for him instead of renting a traditional tux. I really don't think he cares one way or the other. He's totally laid back but I know he wants to look nice for the occasion. He's going with a group of friends, so no date to match colors with.

A suit. Kohls has suits and separates on sale, plus I have a 30% off coupon that expires today. So suit shopping is on today’s agenda.

I find that having a suit is handy. I would probably go that route. My son just went on his first interview and that suit would have been handy. This reminds me that I should really go get one.

Prom was announced about three weeks ago (it is May 22). A few weeks ago we went to try to find a tux to rent but stores said they didn't have anything available for May due to being at "warehouse capacity." So, we went with a suit.

My boys have always worn tuxes, but there aren't many reasons around here to wear a suit.
I don't know how much suits are, but the tuxes were $222 each to rent this year (there were cheaper options, but they picked the ones they liked)

My DS went with a tux as that’s what his friends did 4-5 years ago. I’ve noticed in pictures this year that that nobody is wearing tuxes and have gone with suits. Navy seems to be a very popular color with slim cut pants.

All 3 boys wore dress pants, shirt, tie and vest. We didn’t bother with the jacket because it would be slung over a chair as soon as he walked in the door. It was one less thing to worry about being left behind. Buying was also more important to us than renting because they needed new dress clothes anyway.

My boys always rented a tux, but they also always went with a date and there has never been a reason for them to wear a suit again. But I think buying a suit is a good idea especially if it something your son is likely to wear again before outgrowing it.

Suit - tuxes were just ridiculously expensive to rent and he had completely outgrown even his blazer so I figured it'd be good to have something.

My daughter went to prom yesterday and she got a great priced dress at promgirl and her date wore a suit. No one wanted to spend a lot of money on prom this year as it was uncertain. They televised the Grand March (parents couldn't attend) and it looked like most boys wore suits instead of a tux.

My son always wore a tux. He would do a sportcoat, nice pants, and shirt and tie for family or more dressed up occasions prior to getting a suit. We bought him his first suit sometime during the last year or two of HS, but his build changed so much that it became obsolete fairly quickly. He lost 15 pounds during his first semester of college (not by trying, he just didn't like midwestern dorm food) and became very slim. I spent well over $100 to have the suit altered for him when he returned home that first summer. It fit him for a year or two until he became interested in seriously working out, and then it didn't fit again and it couldn't be altered. Unless he has a need for a suit during college, I'd go with the tux. Plenty of time for suits after that

DS wore a tux to junior prom and senior ball but that is because he was in Wind Ensemble with the band and we bought him a tux. He got so many wearings out of that tux it paid for itself over and over again. When he graduated we sold it to a neighbor for $75 whose son just made it into Wind Ensemble so it was a win-win!
If I had another son, I'd buy him a nice suit rather than rent a tux.

Suits here. DS already had one, but, it was getting tight, so, I bought him another one on Nordstrom Rack online.

DS rented a light grey suit. It was $179 and included the jacket, pants, vest, shirt, shoes and tie. Of course he wanted different shoes so he bought himself those. Most kids this year wore suits and they were mostly rented.

So much has happened in the few hours since I first posted, lol!
1. DS is asking someone -- one of the girls in the friends group he was already going with. 2. We bought a grey suit. The price for rental was over $300!!!!! He said he'd prefer a suit over a tux and he'll have the opportunity to wear it a few times in the next year. 3. We'll wait to buy the shirt and tie until he knows the color of her dress. She doesn't have it yet.
I can't believe my baby is at the end of junior year already!
