1) What is your favorite or most frequently used stencil pattern (eg stars, hearts, florals) on layouts?
2) What is your favorite way to use stencils on your layouts (eg create backgrounds, base for clusters)?
TIA.

I usually use stencils on cards or mini projects. Haven't really used them much on layouts, but the same techniques and ideas could apply. I like to use them as backgrounds and usually use distress inks or oxides and blending brushes with them. I have used texture paste and embellishment mousse also and while it's fun and different, it's not really my favorite. I recently purchased the chicken wire stencil from Simple Stories Farmhouse Garden collection and I've used it on a card and I can tell already, it's going to get a lot of use! I used it behind some flowers and I can see so many possibilities. I also like stars. I just used my star stencil with some mousse on the front of a graduation card. That was pretty cool and you could use that for 4th of July, new baby, even birthdays!

I like bricks, sun rays (sun burst), and I have like a faded city style map (though with no words on it, sort of like lines for streets) that I really like. I do use them on layouts. Primarily with texture paste, but I have recently started using inks.

My favorite stencils are ones I can use over and over, so not super themed. I love a good star stencil and a good geometric pattern stencil.
Frankly, my stencils are my favorite, but I’m biased like that and don’t have a problem admitting it. 🤣
Ink. Paint. Glitter glaze. Texture paste. All fun things with stencils.

Florals and leaves. Look on amazon for some inexpensive sets. You can get like 16 stencils for $10! They are great too. The search terms I used when I got mine were "leaf stencils" and "floral stencils." I don't scrapbook a lot lately so it's mostly on my mixed media art with either acrylics or watercolors.

I’ve really only used them on cards. I like my brick background and floral layering stencils the most. Gina K and PinkFresh have some gorgeous layering stencils.

Definitely a large circles stencil on cards, it really fills in the background!

I love TCW (The Crafters Workshop - sold on their website and by many companies), some by Joggles and A Colorful Life.
I’m a card maker but many can work on layouts. My go too’s are leaves, flowers, geometrics, including wonky designs - like uneven squares and odd shapes.

I also use a lot of non-themed stencils.
Right now, my go-to is my asterisk stencil that came in my Best of Both Worlds kit. It works for a ton of pages!

My favorite is a music note one. I also use a brick one quite a bit.
I've just gotten into stencils. I don't do a lot with mixed media. I'm an art teacher and I spend all day with messy stuff so I'm kind of burned out on that when I get home. I do like stencils though. I use ink and a dauber- not much clean up. It really adds visual texture when I'm using plain cardstock.
Most of mine are non-themed: stars, leaves, chevrons, numbers, etc. There is a new fish stencil out, though, that I'm definitely going to buy.

Just to add something about TCW (The Crafters Workshop). I had called them with a question about their stencil butters, and ended up visiting with the nicest rep for well over 1/2 an hour, and not just about butters or crafts. She also told me about a page on their website blog that opened up so many possibilities my brain exploded slightly.
Today I emailed the company to ask about shipping timing and to compliment their CS, and the owner answered, and thanked me for writing about the rep - and we ended up visiting about stamp shops in this area, etc. since she knows the owners.
Oh, the point. They are the nicest people! Even their Contact page is nice. It’s begins, “We’d love to hear from you, don’t be shy.” lol I just enjoy supporting companies like that, even if the cost is a bit more.
Of course lots of companies sell their stencils, butters and other items, often at a lower price since TCW wouldn’t want to undercut those shops. It just happened to work out better for me to order from them this time.

I use stencils for backgrounds on cards and pages. I like geometric designs and stars and clouds. For Christmas cards and winter sb pages I like snowflakes, which I usually use with texture paste.
I use TE blending brushes and TH oxide inks more than anything else, but I have used stencils with glazed on transfer gel, then foiled with my Minc.
Had some fun diecutting balloons out of an old Silhouette mat, then using the negatives as stencils and the diecuts as masks.

Thanks for your replies. My favorite stencil design is SS Diamond Sparkle using ink or VB Creative FX glaze on cardstock to create a background. While my inventory is relatively modest, my goal is not to buy more stencils but use the ones I already own more often & creatively!

Footnote about TCW (The Crafters Warehouse). They shipped my order the day after it was placed, but it got lost in transit (tracking showed no movement after a few days). so they shipped a new order - along with a little note, a free small jar of Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste, which I had said I loved during our earlier conversation, plus stencil of a dragonfly on a background (“Winged Mosaic”). We had talked about the cicadas and how they didn’t have a cicada stencil during that first conversation.

I love stencils! They can be used for color, texture paste, foiling and so much more. I have the 6x6 stencils but like the Tim Holtz stencils as they fit slimline and mini slimline cards and tags! Stencils are inexpensive and therefore I can purchase a lot! I have seasonal stencils that I use also on envelopes! That's my new focus is to decorate my envelopes to go with cards!
