I read FALLING by T.J. Newman. This is a thriller about a pilot named Bill who is told by his hijackers he has a choice if he doesn't crash his plane they will kill his family. This was a page turner. I gave it 4 stars. This is her debut novel and it has already been picked up for a movie. I won my advanced copy through Goodreads.

RobbyKay, I am picking up Project Hail Mary from the library later this week. hutchfan, that sounds amazing! Just added it to my TBR list. I read two books this week. The Girl with the Blue Star by Pam Jenoff. Wow. This was amazing. Based on true events, this was about Jews who hid in the sewers after the ghetto in Poland was raided. One day, a wealthy Polish woman looks down into the sewer. She sees someone staring back. The two begin a friendship. What an amazing book! 4.25 stars. I also just finished What Beauty There Is by Cory Anderson. This is the first book of the series. I will read the other books as well. This is supposed to be YA, but there are serious triggers. There's a suicide on pg. 5. Page 5! And child abuse and more. Lots of tragedy. This is supposed to be YA. I thought it was very intense. The writing/language was gorgeous in spots. In other spots, well, it was annoying. But I'd still give this 4.25 stars as well. I am now reading A Gambling Man by Baldacci. Lisa

I read two this week that I gave 5 stars-completely different from one another. I wouldn't put them up there with all time favorites, but I flew through both and highly recommend. Early Morning Riser by Katherine Heiny -"A wise, bighearted, boundlessly joyful novel of love, disaster, and unconventional family", a very good summation of this book. The characters are all over the top, but so well done. If you like Kevin Wilson, you'll love the humor in this. I chuckled all the way through this one. I will definitely being reading her other books.
When the Stars Go Dark by Paula McClain -This was a literary suspense novel and was excellent. I liked it as much as Long Bright River and if you are currently watching Mare of Easttown, I'd also draw a comparison to that as well. It probably got a couple bonus points because it takes place in Northern California and weaves the story of Polly Klass into it, both made it more relevant to me.
Going to be hard to top two 5 star books this week.

I finished reading When I Was You and liked it a lot!
I just got Hush Little Baby from the library hold and will start that next.
I am reading a book on the kindle, and it's good, but I have no idea what the title is. I have so much trouble turning pages on the kindle, so I don't dare push any other button to try to get the title. I will have to do that after I read the book! Actually, just googled the names and description of the book and it's Someone Else's Daughter.

I read two mysteries this week and enjoyed both of them.
The first one was Who is Maude Dixon by Alexandra Andrews. It's been reviewed a lot on this thread, and now that I have read it, I understand why it has always received such good reviews.
I am just about done w/ Shiver by Allie Reynolds. On the one hand, I can't wait to finish and see how it ends. On the other hand, I know I'm going to be sad when I get to the end because it's been such a good book. I've been listening to the audio book and the reader has a great voice and a beautiful English accent.

I’m just about finished with The K Team by David Rosenfelt. It is a new mystery series with some of the same characters from the Andy Carpenter novels. And of course, it includes a dog, a German Shepherd named Simon Garfunkel. Like the Andy Carpenter series, there is humor mixed in with the mystery. There are a lot of moving parts but they are finally all coming together. 4/5 stars
Next up I’ll either read the next in the series, Animal Instinct, or The Girls in the Garden by Lisa Jewell.

I read The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles. One star. I got carried away with the thought of a library and Paris. It was a giant mistake. I love the idea of what it was and it could have been SO much more, but it wasn't. Odile, a 20-year-old Parisian at the start of the France's entry into WWII, gets a job at the American Library in Paris. While the book is supposed to be a tribute to the American Library in Paris, it is more about Odile. We read small paragraphs about some of the library patrons, but the story is about Odile and the beginning of WWII. Odile is not a great person. I don't want to give away the worst part, but we can say with friends like Odile, you do not need enemies. If the author had painted her that way from the beginning, it might be okay, but she's supposed to be sympathetic. She is not. Then the book has a parallel (??) with a young girl named Lily in 1983 America who befriends Odile. Odile does not treat her much differently than she treated her so-called friends in Paris, i.e., not well at all. How did Odile get to the USA? At the time, she had to be about 26 years old and she committed bigamy. After many years, her husband dies and she tells young Lily that now she's not a bigamist. Well, of course she still is. It doesn't go away because your current "husband" dies. It's like you're not a thief if you stole and then gave it back eventually. You're still a thief!
Worse, every single person in whom you've invested 4/5ths of your reading time just - POOF - disappears. We have no idea what happened to any of them except a tiny tidbit about one of them. But really, nothing else. We know NOTHING. The book is fleshed out up to that point and then BOOM, it's done. We have no idea what happened to her parents, her first husband, her library friend Bitsy and really not what happened to the person she totally destroyed, Margaret. I was angry when I finished reading.

I have a reread this week, The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. Great mix of fantasy and historical fiction. The author has been working on a sequel for many many years and it is finally coming out this year!

Even when they couldn't understand anything. So The Escape of Marvin the Ape by Caralyn Buehner and Mark Buehner was what they asked for all the time. Not just Marvin. And SUCH a great book!!! Dang. I feel like reading it all over again to look for Miss Ostrich on the pages! (Mark Buehner hid her on the pages!)

Tell the Wolves I’m Home: A Novel Carol Rifka Brunt
I just finished listening to this. I would give it 4.5 stars. Takes place in the late 80's when AIDS first got attention. The book is all about relationships between the mother and daughters, the two sisters, the uncle, etc.

I just finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I really enjoyed it, and I cried at the end. Happy Reading! That sounds so good - added to my TBR list. I finished The Starless Sea by Erin Morganstern. Wow - 5/5 for sure. It's like a love letter to storytelling, filled with wonder and magical world-building. The plot is not a straight line and there is a 'main' story woven with a number of other stories (plots? myths? histories?) throughout the book. One of my top 3 reads of the year. I also read The Guest List by Lucy Foley. Terrific murder mystery - 4/5. I don't read a lot of the genre so I can't compare to others. Great story and great character study. I had it partially guessed but there were a lot of surprises and twists nonetheless. There was one thing that seemed like too much of a coincidence and it exceeded my suspension of disbelief allowance, but otherwise great. If you like to see a murder mystery (or for that matter story) through they eyes of a single protagonist, or don't like switching characters and timelines, you will probably not enjoy the book. This week I'm rereading Intuitive Eating (I don't remember the authors). I've been really mindlessly eating since the pandemic and need to a restart. I just got The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman thanks to someone's recommendation on the weekly reading thread, and I'm looking forward to reading that this week. Happy reading everyone!

I love Suzanne Redfearn. I have Hush Little Baby next up on my TBR pile. The first two books I read by her are In An Instant (‘20) and Hadley and Grace (‘21) and were both 4-Star reads. Enjoy!

I continue with my love affair of the From Blood and Ash series by Jennifer Armentrout. I'm on the 3rd book which came out in May. It's a lot like GOTs, with a lot of characters, a LOT of sex, a lot of gore, and great storylines. 5/5...all of them.

Just finished a very good read. Mary Kubica's new one - Local Woman Missing.
LOCAL WOMAN MISSING ('21) BY MARY KUBICA - 4 STARS DESCRIPTION: Shelby Tebow is the first to go missing. Not long after, Meredith Dickey and her six-year old daughter, Delilah, vanish just blocks away from where Shelby was last seen. Are these incidents connected? After an elusive search that yields more questions than answers, the case eventually goes cold. Now, 11 years later, Delilah shockingly returns. Everyone wants to know what happened to her, but no one is prepared for what they'll find. REVIEW: Author's last book was a toss-up between 2-4 stars; first 65% of The Other Mrs was stars with the last 35% of the book getting 4 stars. Her previous 5 books were all 4 stars reads for me (When the Lights Go Out, Every Last Lie, The Good Girl, Pretty Baby and Don't You Cry). I love this author's writing. Quite a few tense moments in this book that had my heart beating fast. One awful lie can hurt so many people in different ways. This book could have been 5 stars if it just went on a little longer. Thought the ending was a little rushed.
Happy Reading !

I finished listening to Sag Harbor by Colson Whitehead, four stars. I think this is a great summer read as well. I listened to The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller. A young couple moves into a town home next to an elderly woman (the senator's wife) who's in an unconventional marriage. It was probably a three star read most of the way through. A light fluff read until the end and... WTAF?!!! 1.5 stars. Then the follow up about 14 years later The incident happened when the woman was 37, not a teenager. Still angry thinking about how stupid that stupid part of the book was. ...
I've started and stopped a couple more I could not get into. I'm excited to start reading The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.
