I always tell myself I won't. But I always do. 7 days in a condo that has a washer and dryer. I don't NEED 3 swimsuits, but I don't know which one I want to wear. I don't NEED 6 shirts since I can wash clothes and yet..
And don't get me started on footwear
I do only have two pairs of shorts packed
So do you over pack or are you better than me?

Nope.
We’ve been taking loooong multi state road trips in the car.
We all have color coded packing cubes for socks, underwear, etc. Each person has his own color so he can get his own essentials out when needed.
Then shirts and my clothes (usually dresses) go on hangers. One hanger for each day with the whole family’s clothes layered on it. Usually my dress on bottom, then the button up shirts over that. This way the clothes don’t get too wrinkled. They can easily be lifted out of the biggest suitcase and hung in the closet at each stop. The hangers are in order so everyone knows what they’re supposed to wear each day. One shared toiletry bag, one shared coffee/breakfast/vitamin bag.

Yep, usually . I pack a bunch of options, but then end up wearing the most comfortable items multiple times. I also usually buy clothes while on the trip. That doesn't help matters...

Yes.. I am already overpacked in my head... Going to KC for a wedding which means even more clothes to take.. cause usually no real dress up clothes. Uggggg.. the only time I do the best if I am flying cause I am not paying extra for luggage. But I still pack more than what I need. heehee...

Nope. I started tracking what I pack and wear for our twice annual beach vacation (also a place with W/D), along with groceries we buy and what we actually use. I now have it down to a science

I always overpack, and it drives me bonkers! LOL I recently went to my brother's for a long weekend (Thursday-Monday). I took so many clothes. I didn't even wear 1/3 of what I took. It's so dumb. I just can't decide what I will want to wear. My daughter and I are going to the beach at the end of June and I am determined I am NOT going to over pack! LOL

If I am going on a scrapbooking or quilting retreat, of course I over-pack. You never know how creativity will strike. Thankfully many retreats I have attended are housed next to a store so I can get what I need if I want to spend the money. That cuts down a little on the load.
But clothes, nah. I pack one set of clothes for each day plus another set then pack extra underwear and I'm good.

Yes! I am currently packing for a road trip to Florida and I already have WAY too many things packed. But I just can't decide what I want to wear in advance. I must have options!

I always over pack, but I try not to. We stay in our timeshare with a w/d, but I hang dry my clothes so I still need some extra. I want fresh clothes if I'm going out to dinner in the evening, so some days I could wear 2 outfits. We have a two week trip this summer and the second week is without a w/d, but I'm determined to not pack too much. We'll see. I guess if I wore extra small then I wouldn't use up so much space and staying under 50lbs for weigh in wouldn't be a big of an issue.

I'm an indecisive packer which naturally leads to overpacking. I have gotten much better in the past couple years by reading about travel capsule wardrobes, but the last two places we went the weather changed unexpectedly and I was really struggling with what I had. So I'm not convinced that overpacking is a bad thing.

I used to but now not so much, thanks to using GYPO. Have you seen her free vacation packer list? That could help you.

Typically, yes, but I’ve really tried to rein it I. I’m on vacation now and definitely did not overpack. I feel a little light, but in reality it’s probably just right. I’m pretty proud that we got a full week for two into one big, not stuffed, suitcase. I usually refuse to share with DH!

I had to learn not to when we started going to Europe. 50 lb. limit or they charge you $50. We usually wear everything we take and have bought lots of lightweight shorts/capris etc. But, for our overnight trip this week to Tahoe, I have to plan for all sorts of weather and possibilities. So yeah, I'm overpacking. Before Kindles became a thing, we used to pack one small suitcase with books for all 3 of us. It was like a ton of bricks.

I’m the worst over packer. Once for a week long trip to California I took ten pairs of shoes 🤪 I get dressed according to what I FEEL like wearing, and who knows what I’m going to FEEL like wearing a week in the future? So I need options.
My most successful packing was for a trip to Ireland… I wore every single thing I packed. It was a personal victory 🤣

Yes I often overpack, more-so in autumn or spring when the weather could be cold or cool or warm or hot. I went to my mum's house for the weekend at the end of May (a week out from winter), just for two nights, and I packed enough for five days! But that's because the days were going to be sunny and warm(ish) but the mornings and nights would be cold.

I am horrible about it. No matter how long I'm going somewhere, I always pack way to much, and never wear half of it. Oh well, this is one of the reasons I pretty much always fly Southwest. I get 2 free bags, I don't have to worry too much about it. One suitcase for clothes and the other for shoes, toiletries, blanket and miscellaneous stuff I'm bringing. I'm driving cross country to move my mom from Nebraska back to NH in a couple weeks, and will have to pack light because there won't be a lot of room in the car. We have to fit whatever I have, whatever she has and her 3 cats for this drive. As of right now, she doesn't have an occupancy date or closing date for new house, so she's going to stay with an old friend and I'm staying with my brother when we get there if her house isn't ready. At least I know I'll have laundry access once I get to his house.

Not anymore. When I was 13, my grandmother took me to Mexico and said that whatever I packed (pre-roller bags) I had to carry myself. I seriously overpacked and had to carry my heavy-ass bag through 3 airports. Never again.
I'm a very frugal packer now, outside of my tech backpack carry-on/personal item which is super heavy.
Plus, I've never gone anywhere I can't pick up a spare pair of underwear or shampoo should I need it.

I’m the opposite of most people on this thread. I don’t need choices. Outfits are meticulously planned to match whatever activity we are doing that day and coordinate with each other so we will match the place and each other for perfect pictures.
When I plan a vacation I have pages where I write down the details of what we’re doing each day (cost, tickets, distances, times), then pages where I write what we are wearing to do each thing.

I'm definitely not that big of a planner and I have no idea what my 17 or 19 year old have packed. I think the only time we match each other or an activity is at a sporting event.

I can't imagine. When my kids were young and we went on family vacations, sometimes it was all I could do to get packed for all of us. (4 kids) No way could I have coordinated outfits not only with each other but also with the places we were going. That sounds exhausting. LOL (not criticizing you...it just seems like a whole lot of work)

I usually seem to overpack when we go by car because why not? lol. It all fits. We usually each take one of those larger plastic storage bins and in there are clothes plus whatever else each person wants to take. So I have a bad habit of just tossing stuff in. In the end it doesn't matter as long as everything fits in the bin.
But, for plane trips I always try to do carry-on only, at least on the way to wherever we're going. That I have down to a science. lol. Dd and I went to Israel for two weeks and each took just a carry-on.

All the time. We are currently on vacation and same setup with a washer and dryer yet I packed way too much. Our 9yo dd wanted to pack her own suitcase so I let her pack it and then checked it. She definitely doesn’t overpack because she had 1 outfit for each day and 1 pair of underwear for each day. I told her she needed to pack at least a few more pairs of underwear for spare. She looked at me in bewilderment and said “I don’t know what you do in your underwear but I only wear 1 each day.” LOL I tried to explain what if it rained or she spills on herself, etc but she still thought it was crazy to pack more than 1 of each article of clothing per day.
